Thanks Moiraine. I just sent off a reply!
|
What the.. Armaisael what are you still doing awake? Can't sleep?
Hey thanks ladyzekke and you too Moiraine. Thought I'd come up for air.... |
I chose Ravenwolf coz it's a simplified spelling of my name. Bet you guys don't believe my real name is Raevanwulf do you? What can I say, I love it, but I tend to drop the 'wulf' bit most of the time. I guess I have a long family history of paganism to thank for it *vbg*
|
No, no sleep for me. The only thing close to beer or a sleeping pill I've got 'round here is a wall, and it's already starting to develop cracks from last time. I'm going to suffer at work tomorrow. Today. Ah, whatever.
|
Yorick, I'll just wait here for your mail to arrive.
Unless you have sent it to my home mail ? |
I just read Charlies post. Man! I don't know what to say other than your story - that small window you opened is a bit of inspiration. I wish you all the best in the ongoing struggle and hope to God your 'pit' (the dark place each of us go through at some stage) is well and truly behind you. It greives me to hear of your loss and even though it's via a blue screen and though I don't even know you, I empathise with you brother and wish you well.
God bless Hugh (Yorick) |
Hugh, that's beautiful. A sincere thankyou.
One love my friend, one love, peace. |
Something ladyzekke said on another post made me think up this poll: why did you choose the board nickname you chose?
Memnoch is from a character in the Anne Rice novel Memnoch the Devil. I'm a huge fan of Anne Rice, and I was originally going to use Lestat as my callsign, but after the movie Interview with the Vampire everyone knows that name. So, I decided to be a bit different, plus I really enjoyed the book. Memnoch's a fallen angel. I've reserved the name Memnoch at the BGDungeon and about half a dozen other forums! |
Multiple...
Is the proxy (Planescape-ish Avatar, basically) of the God of spices. Yeah, you heard right. He's more than a little barmy. |
Bahamut. Lots of fairy tales behind it. I was playing Final Fantasy 7, and I got fond of the name Bahamut next to Aeris. hehe As far as I know, it is hard to find stuff on the net. Bahamut is the head huncho of the dragons. No mortal can look at its splendor and beauty. They are to be blind if they do so. The lower ranked are Tiamat and... shit! Forgot. Oh well... It is a rarely used name, so I have no prob...
|
WOLFGIR
Wolfgir is my own creation a name with influences both from my interest in wolves and my nordic heritage (ir) . Wolfgir is a name that I have used for at least a year and a half and I intend to stick to it. |
Zertyr is the main character in the book im working
on, he is a kind of chaotic neutral char who ends up in some diffrent adventures and wars. (The book is not about the good guys beating the bad ones, but about a half evil half good char who meets both parts, fights them both, but mostly going for his own profits) |
Reminds me of me. Good luck, I love writing as well.
|
I love writing too, but I'm a lame writer. can't even get my english straight and bah! Im just really poor in writing.
|
If you're going to do fantasy writing...
I heavily reccomend RPing someplace... It hones writing skills... Or it least did for me. |
Very good poll, Memnoch !
I had used for years now the pseudo 'Modesty', coming from an English comic from the 60s 'Modesty Blaise' (there are Modesty Blaise books too, and an old movie with Minica Vitti, and there are rumors that a new Modesty Blaise movie is in preparation). Modesty Blaise is a very very very good internation spy woman, while staying a woman (she also has sex with men, several men, which was very rare in the 60s). However, Modesty Blaise is not widely known, and my husband keeps telling me for years that the 'Modesty' pseudo is just ridiculous, so for the first time in more than 10 years, I decided on a whim to change for once ! I have just discovered Robert Jordan's 'Wheel of Time' series (read all the first seven books in four months), so I settled for Moiraine because she is a small quiet woman with brown hair who happens to always get people do what she wants, and also because her name has a remote 'Frenchie' sound. I am a big fan of Anne Rice too, my favourite is the 'Witches' series (read them in French, don't know the English names). You males often seem to enjoy using trumpeting pseudos, ! I particularly enjoyed Worm's (and his 'Yes, I crawl, so what ?' signature. Ladyzekke, where does your pseudo come from ? |
I love mythological names. Can you guys give me a link on where my name is included? I mean the dragon, not the Hindu thing... : )
|
Hi there Moiraine!!
Well I´ve been reding Modesty Blaise s a comic simce I was seven and have read most books, so she is not that unknown I also like Robert Jordan and his names, did you know that he gor the name Kirun from the Swedish city in the north? He has actually been traveling along the nordic countries looking for names and inspirations, cool eh? |
My name is cleric, becouse I am a cleric .
But i think it could be better diviner. |
Hi, Wolfgir.
Glad to finally encounter someone who has actually heard of Modesty Blaise ! Here in France, I never met anyone who did. In fact, I find it very difficult to find her comics, either in France (totally impossible) or on the Net. So many I couldn't read ! Do you per chance have any tips for me about where I can find some of them ? I would actually very much like to know how many people on this board know of Modesty Blaise. I am afraid I don't know much about your Northern countries. But I am always willing to learn more ! I am a southern French woman, and as such very sensitive to the cold, so I know more about southern warm countries. Your pseudo talks of snow and forests and freedom. Very good one. If you like wolves, you must enjoy David Eddings Fantasy, don't you ? |
And, Armisael, you are cheating this poll ! Where does YOUR pseudo come from ?
|
Stole it off an angel.
|
Roleplaying it is then !
|
Moiraine, Modesty Blaise used to be in the comics section of the Sunday paper in Cincinnati when I was 10 (that was 15 years ago!). That's a blast from the past!
Also, check out this site for some great photos of Sydney! |
Memnoch, help, I CAN'T CONNECT TO YOUR SITE !
Is it because the site server is temporarily down, or for some worse reason ? |
"migosh" which is from the movie Willow, the name should actually be spelt as "meegosh" but doesn't look as good in writing. Fantastic movie.
|
Moiraine...... Heard about Modesty .... she used to be quite big here in Norway.... and I also heard some rumours about there being plans for a movie. Other than that, I can't help you!
Oh.... Ash Wyrmspawn has no significant meaning.... Ash is of course taken from that most briliant of Anti-heroes.... our dear Ash from Evil Dead (1 and 2) and Army of Darkness. Wyrmspawn was just added cause he was going to be an evil character. Would've gone for Constantine if he wasn't! *L* |
I wish I had some really cool reson for having this name but nope it is just my real name spelled backwords. hmm maybe I will think of something and change it.
|
Laf, Willow... I saw that like 10 years ago and loved it. For fun, I rented it this fall, and... well... bah, it's a fun watch anyway.
I use Hoggar for my first char in most games I play. The first time was when I mudded on a WoT-mud, where I played an ogier. The name Hoggar I found in a swedish comic called "Assar" (about a wiener who ran away from a sausage salesman). Hoggar is the name of a mountain range in the deserts there. Anyway, I thought Hoggar sounded large and brutish and fit for an ogier. It seems to have stuck to me after that. |
Well, I daresay some people won't like this and maybe my posts won't get answered any more but what the heck. Seems to me there are a lot of mid thirty's age group so we're pretty adult.
I was unfortunate enough to get hooked on cocaine and then crack cocaine for fifteen years. I lost a lot of my life and was involved in and saw things that would frighten the pants off of most "normal" people. Some of my friends sadly met violent ends very prematurely. I'm off all drugs now, have been for well over a year. I had forgotten that I used to like computer games, particularly RPG's. BG1 & BG2 help to keep me out of the pub and out of trouble and in a lot of ways help to keep me straight. Charlie is English slang for cocaine. Charlie also happens to be my dead fathers name (passed away when I was fifteen). So, in summary, my nick' is a reminder to me of the two things that I loved and hated the most. |
Moiraine!
Well the best way to go about it would probably be to surf to the publishers homepage and find some fanpages and chexk out Amazon for the books and well, try to contact any of the bigger comic publish houses to see if they´re still in print, otherwise you have to make a new posting here and tell us to send you everything we got, though mine could be hard to read unless you have some knowledge in Swedish... As fo my name I do like Eddings and I do like freedom, cause I´m slaved in front of my computer here at work, don´t tell anyone.., and I like the outdoors, it´s kind of a yearning for thoose things you imagine to be better, grander and more romantic I guess. I love Icewind Dale, when you´re out in the open and hope to see more forresting in more DOD CRPGames in the future... Southern France eh? Must be great there.. Here it id snowing as I type this so, well, a fine redwine and some warmth had been great! |
No worries, Charlie mate. Everyone's got a story ('cept me). "Don't look back - you probably won't like what you see."
|
Respect to you Charlie!!!
I hope you can stay clear of all that shit, seems like you need a break!! I have lost some friends to drugs as well, though I have stayed clear of it I have seen what it can do so well good luck to you!! |
Charlie, good on you for your honesty! And of course your posts will still get answered!
|
Charlie,
don't worry at all, mate. Haven't you noticed already that this board was a very special one ? Yes, you have, otherwise you would have said nothing. Everyone of us is a mere human being, and I am pretty sure everyone of us has done in his/her life things that he/she is not proud of. How could we be judging you ? |
All this talk about misstakes and such, reminds me
of when I was young.. Ok, not that long ago, but about 8-9 years ago. Was mixed up with the wrong kind of ppl, stole a car, cops followed us, fleed into the woods, wrapped the car around a tree, (looked really cool btw), ran from the police, they even used dogs. I came home, took my school books, did my first home work since i was 7 years old. Never went out with that gang again, never done anything bad after that, and damn, look at the mess I am in now. Good job, sexy woman in my bed, and BG 1-2 and some other games to give me a break from my nymph girl.. C'est la vie! |
'Zactly. Look at me. Spent the most part of my youth buggerizing around like a twit and now I've got my dream job, plenty of booze, a nice, messy flat and a girlfriend who actually spends more time around me than my pet alchohol hummingbird. Damn, has she got a strong stomach.
|
Er... I think my post had a point...
Ah yeah. Bugger the past, 'cause it doesn't really matter a stuff in the long run. |
Draggor is just a name I made up. It is an orcy sounding name I made up for my Orc Warlord in warhammer Fantasy battle and I now use it in most roleplaying type things. It just sounds like a warrior type name and I know it's unique to me. Sorry to bring this thread back to the topic.
|
Yeah, good move Draggor.
Thanks guys, lovely comments, beautiful in fact.... Time to move on now. |
