I've been noticing the guarded compound in the Temple District, and I've found the secret entrance in the sewers. But does someone give me a quest for this place? Or is it just somethin you can stumble upon and kill everyone in it? Thanks!

Just stumble in and kill 'em all. It was originally supposed to be a part of a quest that would tie the slavers in with the Twisted Rune, but it never made it into the final version of BG2.

Beware! The fight is NOT a pushover. But the loot is worth it.

Tip: Use magic - lots of it... :D

be careful with the boxes in the upper left of the lower level of the building... they are trapped and you cant open them easily.

whodoyouthinkyouare 09-10-2002 06:09 PM

Well, I was mistaken about the secret entrance. The one I saw was the entrance to Mekrath's place where he keeps Haer'dalis (ya know, the one that looks like the 3rd flore of Durlag's Tower). So how do you get in there? If it matters, I killed Darcin Cole in Imnesvale, and I haven't fought for the Staff of the Magi, but I have done the tanner quest. So what else do I need to do?

Tancred 09-10-2002 06:31 PM

The first part of this quest is the Slaver quest in the SLums and the Copper Coronet... if you have the fix to reinstate this quest, fair enough, but if not then the Compound is just something you stumble into.

Well, how do I get in there. Is it in the sewers? Cause in the sewers, next to those punks who fight you, there is one of those 'hidden' doors. But when I try to open it, it gives me the message about it not being a conventional lock, and that it may be warded. So what is needed to open that door?

THAT door is for something else, and I'll give a spoiler at the end on where you can find the key. The door to the Guarded Compound is facing away from you, so in order to get in just drag your mouse along the roof line of the building until you get an "open door" icon. IIRC, in BG1 there were some buildings like that in Beregost, so you're probably already familiar with the concept.

In the Windspear Hills quest you'll come across a key that has a slight sewer smell to it. That is the key that opens one of the secret doors in the sewers.

You really shouldn't go in there if your group is lower than level 10 because it is a VERY hard fight. Don't consider skipping it though, the loot makes it well worth your while.

Yes, I warn you about the fight, those guys play some serious hardball, and when you fight em, watch out for the Ooze stun trap they set. And, check to see if you still got your magic items after you fight the beast that eats em. But seriously, you get about 25000 gp worth of loot there, so take care.

Actually, I've done it before almost right out of the first dungeon, with only the Slavers quest at the Copper Coronet preceding it, but you have to go in with the right preparation.

Fellas, fellas, fellas... it wasn't so hard if you employ the same dirty tactics that most bosses do. Ok, first, once that monster summoning thing started, I ran back to the door, and they all the monsters killed each other, leaving only the Glabrezu and the Efreeti in mist form. So I take Anomen (with that amulet from the bonus merchant tat gives permanent PFE), main character Cavalier, and Keldorn to fight him. Since I had PFE, he totally ignored me while i kicked his sorry butt. Then I went for the Efreeti, but it took a little longer due to the mist. Finally go up the stairs, and use my dirty but not quite 'cheap' tactics. I make the fools come to me. I casually walk back down the stairs, and what do you know? Two of them followed me. Killed them. Did that twice more, and they were all gone. And I was only at level 11.

It also had something to do with Nalia's fiancee. I found Isea's documents on Shangalar's corpse and just sat ther puzzled for about 10 mins...

whodoyouthinkyouare 09-14-2002 08:25 PM

Wow, that's funny... Isaea was thrown in jail a long time ago. Who was Shangalar, by the way? It sounds familiar, but I don't ever pay attention to the names of bit parts.
