What movies do they watch, or did they, around 2 1/2 years old? My little girl is exactly 30 months old, and just watched her first movie - Cindrerella. She doesn't watch much tv at all, but once in a while it would be nice to let her kick back and watch something that won't be too intense. We watched part of Nemo once, but the sharks scared the crap out of her (literally, I think), and we have Bambi but my wife seems to think seeing the mom die is a little much for her. So what were your kids' favorites?

<font color=skyblue>My daughter likes Anastasia because it has a dog in it, and Lady and the Tramp for the same reasons.

The new Barbie Fairytopia and the others of Barbie where its a remake of Repunzel, Princess and the Pauper, etc. are very "child" friendly.

She also loves Veggie Tales.

I cannot think of any others right now.</font>

I would recomend the below but if I remember it is intense and may be like bambi in that regard.

We held off on many movies with my daughter back then. Since her brother came along, our standards have dropped dramatically ;)

Most Disney movies, if you think about it, are very dark. Someone's parent usually dies... the bad guys are very evil... the good guys may not make it... it's really a formula.

Lilo and Stitch was a pretty good one too... not overly bad on the bad things.

These guys provide children’s music / movies of an extremely high standard. They might be hard to get in the USA though.

USA stuff I find hit and miss, but the "bear in the big blue house" or the eternal "sesame street" videos are world class.

Movies in the classic sense I would leave till 3 1/2 years IMO but of course every child / parent is unique

I've got friends with little ones about that age and they go with all the things mentioned above. We totally entranced our friends 3 yr old with two Frosty the snowman videos last Christmas.

Go Veggie Tales! Great suggestion, Larry! Several people I know let their youngsters watch them, we even rented one of the movies when we had company and it's pretty entertaining stuff.

Scope out the garage sales... you might be amazed at the videos you can find in there.

And Wellard, the Wiggles are definitely available over here... firmly and solidly entrenched in the Disney machine. There is no escape... resistance is futile... you will be terminated... terminated... terminated...

Good point on holding the movies back a little. Both Ariel and Lilo & Stitch also have TV shows... we've had those taped for a long, long time. Dora the Explorer too... Hablamos espanol aqui... ;)

Veggie tales for sure. At 30 months a lot of kids don't have the attention span to site through a whole movie. Veggie tales even has cds you can buy so you can sing the songs in the car. Show tunes anyone?

<font face="Verdana" size="3" color="#009999">The Backyardigans is a fun cartoon with lots of fun songs and are now avaliable on DVD. Believe it or not I like watching this one. It is about these animal kids who convert there backyard into all sorts of things with there imagination and each show offers something new.</font>

Michael doesn't really enjoy preschool shows or kids movies really, not when he's with me anyway, always gets fussy.

Only thing he really watches and enjoys seems to be Lord of the Rings and American Choppers, don't ask, couldn't tell you why [img]tongue.gif[/img]

So far she does like Dora, and Little Bear on Noggin. The Wiggles are, to put it mildly, MY least favorite show of all time, and luckily Ava hasn't gotten into them. Yet.

I'll have to look into the Veggie Tales (we do have some of the CD's - X-Mas present for her from her Aunt), and Backyardigan's sounds cool. I have something against against the old Disney movies - it just seems to me that in those (i.e. Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty) it's all about the Princess getting into trouble, then waiting for a prince to rescue them. It's probably too late, though, as she LOVES Cinderella.
