That is absolutely horrible. Those demands were absurd, and makes me glad we don't live during the ages when this was the norm in most places. It's a good thing many countries of the world are now past this. Disgraceful really.

This guy sounds like a real shithead. If it's a joke, its pushing it (this from a guy that makes fun of poor people), and if its serious, I'd hope this girl's brother(s) would beat the hell out of him.

I wish the story told if he actually showed the contract to his wife. I don't understand how she managed to live with him for all these years.

Actually, it says he gave it to his wife, and she later passed it on to the authorities (obviously without signing it). He is on trial for trying to kidnap his own wife and child porn charges - the contract just highlights how messed up he is.

I did send the link to my wife - we're both from Iowa originally, and I don't think either one of us was too surprised by something like this. Crazy people everywhere...

This guy was just made for prison.

But I bet some people might be surprised by how backwards general attitudes can be in some of the smaller towns. I spent enough time in Ames, IA (college and farm town rolled into one) and some surrounding towns to meet a LOT of people that would think that contract was just dandy.
