Now that the new year is upon us, I want to know how your 2005 stacked up! What were the highlights? What were the crap bits? What happened that you will never forget? What changed? What did you learn? ;)
And what do you think the new year will bring for you? |
Well, I moved out of my parents house again, (2 weeks before I got 30... phew ) after 3 years I'm again on my own and enjoying it a lot. other than that the year was pretty usual.
Probably the highlight would be discovering the TV show Scrubs... which gives you an idea on how exciting my life is in general... |
2005 was good for me re only one cold and no flus, I made it the entire year without those types of sicknesses mostly, which is always a good thing! My obsessive hand washing paid off I reckon LOL. :D
Not a good year for gardening for me. Spring was mostly cold and damp, took probably until middle of June before it warmed up. Lots of mosquitoes about then, and it was aphid heaven too, eating up everything. I did a lot of spraying and killing aphids in 2005 LOL. Then it turned summer and got sickenly hot and humid, and you had to completely douse yourself in Deet to even visit my garden, else you'd be eaten alive by mosquitos (sweating really brings em on). Then out of nowhere my electric windows in my car went out, so all I had all summer is the one window next to me on my front driver's side that would go down, and the window directly behind me on the right back seat, which only goes down half way (child proof - and I have no child LOL). And my AC works lamely and makes my car heat up too much when I use it, so I just don't, and so I sweated it out massively summer of 2005 on my way home from work every day. Finally I brought in shorts and a very light top with me into work so I could change before I left off for home, and I said to myself "to hell with the creepies across the street from my work at the Kebab Palace!," LOL, I'm running out to my car in shorts, barefoot, and in a skimpy top. It's kinda humiliating in a way LOL, but it really helped keep me from just melting away in standstill, sun beaming directly in, traffic. I go directly home too LOL. Planted a tree in Autumn. My Dad dug a baby one up in his yard and gave it to me in September. It's a "silk" tree, sometimes also known as a Mimosa I think. Very soft palmy tree with furry looking pink blossoms in the summer. I hope it does OK in 2006. Felt more festive re the Christmas holidays this year than I did last year. Really took time out for everyone, and decorating, even bought a new CD of Christmas Music, all electric guitar, but it really was fun to listen to. So all in all, I end 2005 pretty much OK. It wasn't a terrible year for me, wasn't a great year for me. Perks- first girlfriend, first job, first love, first kiss. became more independent. learned not to trust teenage girls (from my school anyways).
Sucky moments- First breaking, first time dumping someone, first time quitting a job, too many standerdized tests. college applications. It was a meh.. year. Looking forward to 06!! !I graduate this year!! whooo.. |
Meh... alright. I got my first *real* job, lived in a crummy little hell-hole for 5 months, am now a slave at my job, bought my first tv, got a new house... lots of ups and downs.

Year highlights :
4th hole in one Smashing a great drive across the old course hotel on the Road Hole at St Andrews (OK - it was a provisional ball, but so what) Buying a new house that is almost twice as large as the old one. Flyng 1st class for the first (and probably only) time ever. Catching up with Wolfie and Mouse and Melusine and Moiraine and Donut and Lanesra and Sir Tainly again when on my Euro golfing jaunt. The Goats and the Cars. Discovering a new great computer game called Guild Wars Great BBQ to finish off the year - succulent prawns and huge juicy steaks while sipping on a Bundy and watching the sun go down over the water. An Aussie winning the World Series of Poker Great weather in general and for holiday and no sickness / illness. Great night at the Walthamstowe dogs courtesy of Lanesra's recommendation of 1 and 4 reverse both ways . Australia qualifying for the World Cup and Sven saying how he was worried he was that they might draw the same group as us :D Watching Donut trying to moonwalk in front of me everytime Harmison or Flitoff took a wicket. The crap bits Hitting a rather rank scrubbing duff off the 1st tee at St Andrews in front of all those poeple. The collapse of the Brisbane Lions after 15 weeks of the regular season West Coast Eagles making the grand final and almost winning it - they had me worried there for a minute but thank goodness the Swannies came through. Losing the Ashes to the bloody Poms whilst staying at Donuts place. What I learnt : The Brits watch an average of 14 hours of TV per week. OK - this is one of those things that will alwys stay with me because I did a pub quiz with Donut and it was the tie-breaker question. We guessed 32 hours and won the 3 way play off because the other 2 teams guessed higher . Never bet against me at golf if the bet is for pudding - I was undefeated in 2005 in pudding match play and I can still reacll the sweet wonderful taste of sticky toffee / sticky date puddings of victory. Always swap Never leave Donut's place and leave yourself logged into Ironworks as Davros - the man has an much self restraint as a poodle in a butcher shop If someone tells you will get all the hot water in the world - start shopping for heating elements for their hot water system. If you are in a Sturbucks and someone offers top buy you a caramel hazelnut maxi venti something-chino - RUN AWAY . And one last thing that I definitely learnt - DONUT CANNOT MOONWALK TO SAVE HIMSELF :D All in all - not a bad year. |
Highlights:
-Summer. -Being alive I guess, that's always an upside. -Friends and family. Crap: -Began to suffer from a slipped disc. -Didn't achieve the grades at A-level I needed in order to go to University to study medicine. -Repeating A-levels in one year in a college abroad, away from my friends and family. Crappy year all in all. Hopefully next year'll turn out a lot better. [ 01-01-2006, 04:40 AM: Message edited by: Sigmar ] |
Good points - Got to know more people and am now in a relationship
Crap points - the constant moaning of relatives and my gran getting ill and going into hospital new years eve. |
Lot's happened in 05 for me.
Finaly plucked up the corrage to stop living the lie, and be true to myself, started my first relationship, ever, had my first ever kiss, and a number of other related firsts. My boyfriend proposed, I accepted. so many not so good parts, but enough really good parts that they don't matter so much. |
Good thanks.
I spent the night getting drunk with a mate and watching bad terrestrial TV. Amazingly, I didn't get a hangover... so I'm happy today |
Sounds like you had a good year, Davros. You didn't, by chance, celebrate the arrival of the new year at Gloucester Park, did you? *Edit: Nevermind. I missed the bit about the BBQ.
Good Bits: -Knucklin' down and acquiring a home that i can call mine, landlords excepted. No more sharing. No more compromises. No dependants. If this don't give me some focus for achieving other goals, nothing will. Having it finalised and decked out for living before the time i allowed myself (25th bday) was just sweet. Stuff like that doesn't usually work with me. -New Year's Eve at Gloucester Park. I've had a bit of an aversion to crowds this year. Getting old i guess. I haven't been to a single concert or large event all year. But damned if i was gonna ruin another New Year's Eve. So i went with a few mates and had a ball. Best fireworks display i've ever seen too. -Ironworks. After a two year hiatus (sp?) where i couldn't log on to IW, a format or five - for different reasons - saved the day. Didn't realise how much i missed this place 'til i got back. That was around June some time. -Clearing old debts and making positive steps to stay in front. It's ferkin good to get something other than debt mail in the box. Erm, actually that's the only snail mail i get... Somebody write me a letter! -Winning first division for the $32 million New Year's Lotto. Of course, the shops aren't open 'til tomorrow, so i can't check the tickets just yet. But it's gonna happen... Bad Bits: -Getting dumped the day before Valentine's. I guess i should be thankful she didn't wait one more day, eh? But i'd still bought her a present which i had to offload on someone. So i gave it to her best girly friend at the time. -Getting lax with achieving my Trade Qualifications. Shoulda been done by now. And i should be out there somewhere earning big dollars. No excuses. But i did make it my resolution for this year. -Getting screwed by, and losing a good friend to the mental condition resulting from her heroin addiction. I now know that professionals deal with this stuff for a reason. But if you're doing what you can to help them when they cut you... Well, it hurts. -Not making any significant progress with my own habits. A councillor, yes. But beyond that?.. Oh well, i guess that's why i'm still goin strong after New Year's. ;) [ 01-02-2006, 09:39 AM: Message edited by: Sever ] |

I already can't remember very much so it must have been quite good i guess. |
Great thread!
Highlights - I celebrated my first anniversary with my husband in the same hotel we had our wedding reception and first night as a married couple. - Got to see my parents a few times which is tough since they move from one side of the country to the other with the seasons and are rarely around when you call! -Got a nice Christmas bonus at work. Gift certificate at a local mall that has enough variety of stores and restaurants that I won't have any trouble spending it! :D -Hubby got his current job, with wonderful benefits. He loves the job, which makes me very happy! - Got to visit some dear friends who live a few hours away, several times more than we have in the past and I'm hoping to keep this up in the new year as we miss them and they have an incredibly sweet 4 year old who's growing up fast! -Discovered Sacred, thanks to LadyZ! :D - The neighbor kid across the street got his license. Yes, it's a highlight because now he's only home half the time and most of that is sitting in his car or the house, instead of paintballing people's houses! - We finally got an electric lawnmower that's powerful enough to get our weed-field...err. lawn, mowed properly. :D The less than wonderful - Hubby was out of work a few months. We're still working on catching up financially. - Lost Longfellow, a kitty my best friend and I inherited when a friend of ours died almost 10 yrs ago, to cancer last month. :( - My brother in law went to Iraq and has missed most of the first year of his newborn son's life. But we expect him to come home sometime in the next few months, so 2006 is already better in that respect! |
Hey, congratuations, Q'alooaith!!!
My year was fabulous. I moved out of my family home and am living in a unit with my cat, which is so great. It is so close to uni, which really saved me this year being at uni so much including evenings and weekends - I would not have coped with having to do the 50-60min commute every day as well as doing so many hours at uni. Plus I really like living on my own, although without Tuppy I would get a bit lonely I think! My mum comes to visit me every week and we talk on the phone all the time, my brother comes for dinner, and my dad has been fantastic, fixing stuff and painting and putting pictures up and stuff. So that was a huge highlight. Also I started practicing for real as a psychologist this year, doing my first internship at the uni clinic. This was amazing. I have worked for so long now on the hope that this is what I want to do, so to find that yeah, it IS what I want to do and I am actually good at it as well was fantastic. Because I've been a student for so long I've certainly felt a sense of accomplishment when I get good marks or something, but to actually succeed and enjoy doing the thing that is what I want to do as my career is so satisfying, and relieving as well! There were definitely a lot of times when I was frustrated and angry, because we had a bad situation at the clinic where the school accepted way too many interns and didn't take appropriate steps to make sure there were enough clients, so there was a lot of twiddling thumbs, but while I certainly didn't find that fun at the time, coming out the other side I am only remembering the good bits. I also made a lot of great new friends and had a lot of fun. Broke a couple of hearts... :D On the downside, working in a service industry you definitely see the thoughtless rude side of people. The number of times I sat waiting for people to come to appointments who just didn't bother letting me know that they weren't coming. Also people are late all the time! What is with people being late??!! It is like it's becoming acceptable or even desirable to be late to things. Having been brought up by someone who is unfailingly punctual, I have a hard time tolerating lateness from others, and really, I shouldn't have to! But all in all, a great year! |
The good stuff: bought a house and got a promotion.
The bad stuff: the car died (we had to buy another one). |
Started going out with my girlfriend
Learned to drive I love Malaysia... It's so easy You'd all better watch out when I get to university in another country :D |
I had a great year until about ... the day before new years', at which point my house flooded and my computer got submerged. Until then, it was *great* - I went to school, got a job, had fun, lived with my family, played games, did LAN's, my friend hosted a D&D campaign (which is still going, ebberon setting), and read a bunch of books.
Overall pretty good, yeah. |
Odd year. I moved 3 times, from flat, to my mate's house, to my then-girlfriend's, and then back to my original flat, each time believing I would be staying there for at least a year and a half. Oh, I am now engaged aussi. That was the highlight of my year by a long shot.
|
Highpoints:
-Finally got some upgrades for my computer -Getting over some school issues -New friends -Many parties and other fun stuff Crappoints: -Bad luck in the dating field -Inability to get my LAN connection working properly -My first science fair project ;) |
