And I'm willing to send you a couple of inches of our rain for some of your beer (or Johnny's), Felix.

That's what you get for living the the outback. I live in a modern, well developed society, that never runs out of booze.

Just recycle it! Who'll know the difference?

I'm surprised the owner wasn't shot. I understand Aussies are almost as fanatical about their beer as the Dutch. :D
|
Almost. But we love our Bundaberg Rum even more. It's the national spirit mate! ;)
Hmm, it couldn't be more than 600km from Bundaberg to this little place. Isn't this why helicopters 'n stuff were invented? :D [ 11-04-2005, 10:21 PM: Message edited by: Sever ] |
Breaks into Slim dusty mode and begins to sing....
It's lonesome away from your kindred and all By the campfire at night where the wild dingos call But there's nothin' so lonesome, so dull or so drear Than to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer Now the publican's anxious for the quota to come There's a faraway look on the face of the bum The maid's gone all cranky and the cook's acting queer What a terrible place is a pub with no beer The stockman rides up with his dry, dusty throat He breasts up to the bar, pulls a wad from his coat But the smile on his face quickly turns to a sneer When the barman says suddenly: "The pub's got no beer!" There's a dog on the verandah, for his master he waits But the boss is inside drinking wine with his mates He hurries for cover and he cringes in fear It's no place for a dog round a pub with no beer Then in comes the swagman, all covered with flies He throws down his roll, wipes the sweat from his eyes But when he is told he says, "What's this I hear? I've trudged fifty flamin' miles to a pub with no beer!" Old Billy, the blacksmith, the first time in his life Has gone home cold sober to his darling wife He walks in the kitchen; she says: "You're early, me dear" Then he breaks down and he tells her that the pub's got no beer It's lonesome away from your kindred and all By the campfire at night where the wild dingos call But there's nothin' so lonesome, so dull or so drear Than to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer |
*sniff*
'Tis true, Wellard.... 'tis very true. |
Burn the pub down for running out of beer!
|
You got it all wrong, Carlton Draught is the best beer and toohys extra dry. Nothing like it. Btw, if you hadn't noticed Australia has some of the most alcoholic drinks in the world, but it is weird how we don't get maggot so easily and yet America's beer is only like 8%.

*Edit: Ooh, and thankyou wellard for posting that. Aussie lore at its best. [ 11-08-2005, 05:18 AM: Message edited by: Sever ] |
Thank God I live in the civilized world where such things as running out of beer don't happen. :D

Hey!

God, just what Australia needs. Yet another stereotypical story of remote country beer-swilling. Oh the debauchery.
Anyone would think that when we were born, we were fed from the teat of a giant VB. (VicBitter) You beat me to quoting Slim Dusty too, Wellard. :D Although, I actually thought it was something more along the lines of: "There's nothing more lonesome, morbid or drear than to stand in a bar...of a pub with no beer". But we'll leave that one to the scholars, eh? P.S: I prefer Cascade, Boags or Hahn myself |

*Edit: About the Slim Dusty, i thought the line said "morbid" as well. But it's no biggie. [ 11-08-2005, 11:13 PM: Message edited by: Sever ] |
