Every Halloween is different, whether it be your children and their costumes, or those of us who are candy giver-outers. This year was pretty slow, didn't get more than 10 or so hits here, way less than normal, so I have a ton of candy left LOL.
Seems this year was the Jolly Roger year, in that almost every single kid that came to my door chose the Jolly Roger candy first and foremost! (I hold out a giant bowl and let the kids take what they want). It was also the "Mother" year, in that I had three mothers who also apparently wanted to trick-or-treat and delved into my candy basket. At least one was dressed up, kinda, in a dark red dress with a veil. Or maybe that's how mom usually dresses, I dunno. Odd family, she had two girls with her who I'd guess at age 13 or so, and first daughter took a few pieces of candy, then the other took 5, and the first sister then berated her for it calling her "impolite" and was beginning to go into some sanctimonious rant when I just interrupted and said "Oh it's OK, I have tons of candy here, take what you want." And it worked, the would-be ranter sister took a few more pieces and then they both happily walked away LOL, that's when Mom took her share LOL. Here's the kicker though, mom then kinda looks behind her and I hear a slight "oh!" from her and then out peeks this 13 or 14 year old boy. He'd been standing behind those fueding sisters, and the mother, the entire time, poor guy LOL. He finally gets his turn as the mother notices him and moves away to let him come up to the candy bowl, and he only takes two pieces, all politely and walks away all quietly. Dang his sisters were totally up and all over it and overbearing, mother same way, this kid so is not like them and I bet his life is always him standing behind them. Ugg. Had two other Mothers take from my candy bowl too, not even dressed up, LOL just weird giving out "trick-or-treat" candy, something for younguns, to an adult that may even be older than I am LOL. One kid I did get had a decent outfit, he made an actual effort, he is my Halloween kid of the year LOL. He had this regular skeleton mask, just a regular black cape, nothing special when I first saw him, he was really a litte guy too, 3 feet tall I'd reckon. I squatted down and he looked at me and he had one of those masks that drips blood, he had all kinds of tubage going on LOL hooked up to this mask he was fumbling with. Not sure how it works, but I guess he pushes a button and it moves the "blood" which is beneath clear plastic over the skeleton mask. He only took one piece of candy from my basket, and when I did not move away, he said "What.. can I take another piece!?" I said "Sure take a few pieces, go ahead!" (cause I got tons of candy and at that point it was looking pretty lacking re trick-or-treaters this year doh). So he grabbed a few more pieces, and then he walked away, and his parting words were "Thank You! Have a good holiday." Kinda unexpected for one so small, so adult sounding LOL. Funny. Ah, another Halloween come and gone. What did you all do this year for Halloween, if anything? |
Kid count so far- 0.
|
Today's just another day, aside from handing out candy. I did my Halloween thing at a party on Friday, so it feels like Halloween is already over (it's only 7 pm here, though).
Wings were the theme at the party - almost every single girl there was wearing something with wings. Can make things a bit awkward... ;) |
Trick or treating this year... carved pumpkins yesterday, and did my first try at an "artistic" one, where you don't cut holes in it, but cut away layers of pumpkin shell to leave a thin skin behind.
It was pathetic. I don't have good tools for it, and I'm not likely to find any. I didn't have a good stencil, and my wife suggested I do a pirate... like I can draw one of those A face with an eyepatch... yeah, that's it :D Kids had fun, although trick or treaters were light. Still have two huge bags left over (more than half our stash), and I'm sick and tired of chocolate (something I never thought I'd say). Had some neighborhood kids over after trick-or-treating to celebrate Corbin's birthday with cake and ice cream, and that went well. The big six-year-old is now sound asleep in bed, waiting for next year. The dog did not do well, though... too much excitement for a puppy. Okay, for a big puppy... he's almost eight months old, and he's almost grown into his feet. And just what he needed... lots of kids eating (and dropping!) chocolate cake. We'll see if he has the runs tomorrow... but I'm leaving for Atlanta, so I won't have to deal with it! |
Man, it is hard to believe it has come and gone so quickly. I used to live for Halloween when I was a kid. Great, fine memories indeed.
|
We had about 8 people.. man, in my old house in Louisville we'd get like 50...
Anyway, Halloween is my favorite time of year. The smell of the leaves in the air, the crisp air, the smell of burning jack o lanterns.. I loved it more as a kid though.. |
0 kids this year, but not surprising really. My house is the last house before the metal fence which divides the occupied houses from the half-built ones. Didn't expect many to come down my road, but I at least expected a few.
|
Sadly they don't really celebrate halloween here. I need a new nationality.
|
A few Aussie kids have been getting in n the "free lollies" lark over the past few years. Always surprises the heck out of us home owners, because out of the blue you get a knock on the door and some plaintive little voices mouthing the T words.
I was surprised coming home from work to see 2 badly dressed ghosts (my god - that sheet with holes thing is never gong to catch on) wandering down a nearby street. At that pointin time I decided it was time to eat out for the night. I see some homeowners up in Perth have pressed charges against some kids for vandalising houses. Some traditions just don't transfer all that well to foreign countries I am afraid. |
Kids come to my door - 6
Kids who got candy - 0 Kids who got the hose sprayed on them - 5 We dont celebrate Halloween in Australia and I personnally like it that way. I only got 5 out of 6 because damn that last kid was fast! |
Blame Ireland

I think Halloween, like most hollydays, is dead.
Back when I was young, you'd see people all over, you couldn't walk a street without running in at least 10 trick or treaters. Most houses were decorated, and candies were plentifull. I'd get back with bags full. Now these days, I'm surprised if I get visited by 10 people. If two houses on the same streets have people giving candies it's considered luck. :( |
We got nearly 60 kids in a few hours yesterday. LOL,and like LZ we had one mother too, but I think she was with a group of people and her kid didn't come up with her or something. Probably one of the infants so mom was eating all the candy anyway!

I wandered around looking like this:

We had more kids this year then last. And our pumpkin made it through. Bonus last year poor thing was killed off to early in the night.
So we had about 70 kids. Sydney was dressed as a princess and Hudson was a dolphin. Was fun for me and the kids. We went up to one house and Sydney yells at the top of hear 3 1/2 year old voice trick or treat. To bad the door was all ready open. So the lady gives Sydney a handfull of candy and then she seen Hudson down in the stroller I had him in. Was a little chilly so I had him covered up in a few blankets. She yells to her Husband to come and see Hudson and then pulls down his blanket and started to stuff him like a turkey full of candy. The whole time she is saying how cute he is. I finaly had to say that he is not eating chocolate and that he had enough. Was to funny. ;) So had a good time. I had to tell Sydney that she was not allowed to sleep with her candy and it would be there for her the next day. Minus a few pieces for dads lunch. |
I dressed up wearing all black and some camo makeup so I couldn't be seen/recognized and went out egging houses and cars. Aaaaaahhhhh. Gotta love the holidays.

Ahh Halloween. Except for the kid without a costume and an LCBO bag, it's great. I hand out candy, haven't trick or treated since I was 11.

One of our truck's tires apparently was slashed last night. Wonder if I pissed somebody off by turning out the lights at 8:45, or what?
All I know is bleh, that's it LOL. I'm doing a big NOTHING next year, that really pisses me off. |
lady z that sucks. Do you have expensive tires?

We had the annoying teenagers who don't even dress up come by. Boy am I loving the automatic watering system I installed in the front yard.
Pops up from the ground and soaks them!!!! Thats what they get for not even trying! Had a few small kids dress up as ghosts, princesses, power rangers etc. Gave them a few treats. |
So that's $85.00 in truck tire, $35.00 in glorious mixed candy, 3 hours of my time not being able to game or anything cause I'm waiting for the inevitable trick-or-treat knock, that's a good $100.00 in my own personal time LOL, $5.00 in batteries that powered the "closet light" that I used to put into our carved pumpkin instead of a candle (looks better and brighter that way btw). And all for a holiday that is not celebrated the way it should be anymore. I.e., the frikken mothers trick-or-treating now, the plethora of kids that don't dress up at all anymore, or even say "trick or treat!" when you open the door, they just stand there with their bags held out. Now, I'm gonna get vandalism cause I maybe I didn't hear the door one time, or turned the lights off too early, or something?
They will be lucky I don't stand on my porch next year and scream obscenities at them all with a camera in my hand filming them ALL! Or maybe a shotgun.... LOL, yes I'm kinda bitter about it all right now. [ 11-01-2005, 08:48 PM: Message edited by: ladyzekke ] |
It's weird how there's *still* power rangers. I didn't think they were even that big any more.
Sucks about the tires, LZ. $85 for one tire? Yeesh... |
It's not "any more", Sir G, but "Again". They've been reinvented as Power Rangers SPD... and yeah, my son is into them.
Lousy news about the tire, LZ. Didja call the cops to investigate, or say forget about it? If you want help, I'll hold 'em down for you to beat on when you find out who it was... |

Gee, thanks... we didn't know the movie existed yet, to my knowledge, and now I know that somewhere in my future, I'll have to sit through it... multiple times. :(
Sometimes, ignorance really is bliss... :D |

I had a full on egg bomb fight with some older kids, and boy did we make em soak and stink like rotten egg at the end lol. I was unfortunate enough to be corked right on the cheek with an egg, but i didn't get any yolk on me. I did get hit a few other times too.. I sconned 7 people, 4 in the chest, 2 in the limb areas and once in the head (yeah!). That's my story..

btw, here we only got a few. Some 2 days too early and some the day after. (no accurate hits). I expect maybe 1 or 2 until the 5th since in Sweden we have a "All saints day", wich is completely different from Halloween, but some poeple have got it wrong and think its the same. (I suspect Donald Duck (the comics) since they translated (or translates) "Halloween" into "All saints day") We hadn´t any candy to give them so we pretended that there were no one home (me and my bro, alone). Instead i played Half-Life 2 and the mod Garry's mod. Wich in the latter i got onto a server where we built a spooky house. |

Drakilor, it's morphing, like changing shape that they mean, I believe. They 'morph' (transform) into the power rangers of the moment (space, dinosaur and whatever else there is out there! LOL) from street-clothed teens teens. [ 11-02-2005, 10:22 AM: Message edited by: Cloudbringer ] |
Morphine is one of the more potent (and habit-forming) pain-relieving drugs out there...hence, why they only use it in extreme cases (like administering it to gunshot victims while en route to the hospital).
All the talk of videogaming reminds me of what WOW did, adding jack-o-lanterns all over the place and candy, and bobbing for apples...nice touch, that. Now, if only some game I actually play had that... |
It was my first chance to take my little girl trick or treating (other than carrying her around last year as a one year old) and it was awesome. She dressed up as Raggedy Ann. Partially because of all the undressed up people, folks were dumping candy into her basket. We were out way past her bedtime, running up and down the streets to get more candy. For some reason, it completely brought out the kid in me again. It's now my favorite holiday (but that may change come X-Mas). (And yes, I know this is off topic, but it IS a Halloween thread, and I felt like sharing...)
