Inspired by a thread on another forum I decided to find out if there are any steriotypes on swedish people and sweden out there.


- Do polar bears really walk our streets?

- Every swedish person is blonde right?

- Is Sweden and Switzerland not the same country?


Now, this seems to be a pretty educated board so there might not be that many steriotypical veiws out there but it still might be fun.

Swedish guys would be masseurs. Swedish gals would be masseuses.

But aren't they all 5'10 or higher, blond, slender, and stacked? Or is that just what they show in those movies on Discovery... :D

Erm...is it also true that Swedish dudes are very slow when it comes to making replies in topics they started themselves ? :D

No stereotypes - maybe a few steriotypos though.

I do know for a fact that you only eat herring and that it is night for 6 months of the year!

You kinda caught me off guard there... I knew nothing about that. I tried checking it up and it seems like there are alot of countries in europe where the numbers are much higher. Eastern Europe mostly.

I was very drunk i a pub in Newcastle once and I started talking to the locals. I tried to fool them into beliving that we actually had polar bears in Sweden and almost half of them bought it. When I told them that in the northern parts of Sweden the sun stays down for six months only to never set for the rest of the year, which is true (not that extreme but more or less), not one of them belived me. I suppose I should be happy about the stereotypes about Swedes. I mean, it could have been worse, like the ones about the French.

I'm from Finland so I've heard alot of Swedish stereotypes & jokes, but most of them are too dirty to be told here. :D

There's alot of jokes in Sweden about norwegians, and i heard its some jokes about swedes in Norway. [img]smile.gif[/img] But never anything about Finland.

And why would anyone think that there's many blondes in Sweden when there's so few that you hafta ask if it's a fake when you see one?
