Well i made this thread because i have recieved my first ever electric guitar It's an Ibenez RG170, cost $550 dollars (inc stap, amp and tuner) and it plays like a dream. Just wondering what the best instrument you have ever had.

Melcheor 09-17-2005 08:39 AM

Ive had a taylor 214 (acoustic guitar) for a few years now. Its a bit battered and scratched and has seen quite a few attempts at amplification. Its the loudest guitar I've ever owned. With a new set of strings it can be heard all over college! I'm rather fond of my harmonica too...

Like the choice, burnzey. The trem on one of those things is fun. Electric guitars do feel great the first time you get them, really easy to play compared to an acoustic or classical.

Brayf 09-17-2005 08:57 AM

I've got a B. C. Rich Warlock :(

Only electric I've ever had, unfortunately.

Sir Exxon 09-17-2005 10:08 AM

Yamaha RBX270 bass, the beauty in my life. ;)

Brayf 09-17-2005 10:28 AM

I've got a fat lute, too.

Illumina Drathiran'ar 09-18-2005 05:58 AM

My voice. But ask me again in a year, after I have my harp training.

RoSs_bg2_rox 09-18-2005 12:38 PM

Toss up between 3 really. My Gould SG electric, my Perez Pro Classical (love this guitar, well worth the money!) or my Yamaha (insert model number here)...trumpet.

5 string NJ series Warlock bass

If that frown Brayf is intentional Brayf, I'm guessing you got a lesser series, platinum or even bronze? ;)

Though I'd take a Rickenbacker bass if I was looking for another factory produced instrument (rather than a custom-made).

RoSs_bg2_rox 09-18-2005 03:08 PM

The Rickenbacker bass's are very nice, yes. Also very costly though.

Bronze, thanks for making me say it ;_;

Lucern 09-18-2005 08:31 PM

Hey, just had to make sure frowns weren't the only reaction to my current instrument of choice :D

The NJ series is of course vastly inferior to their custom-made beauties, but I didn't have $2-3k laying around.

Props on the lute though! Those are so cool. You've got to wrap your mind around 14 strings though, right?

And aye, same problem there Ross, the Rickies are not cheap. They do have that great Chris Squire/Geddy Lee tone though.

are the Warlock any good to play with? Never tried one myself, they just look so... painful.

Considering to buy a Thunderbird pretty soon. Rickenbacker 4003 (isn't it?) would be the ideal bass, but it's so goddamn expensive...

Haha, I don't really have one, it was an amusing (ahem) reference to Morrowind. You bloody non-Morrowind players, not getting my jokes!

Lucern 09-19-2005 02:02 PM

No Burnzey, it's the prog-rock basses, but yeah the Rickenbacker electrics are common among old hippies I've noticed lol. I played with one :D

Ya caught me Brayf lol. Though I nearly beat Morrowind, it's so big I guess it's easy to miss or forget things.

I've heard decent things about the Thunderbird, Sir Exxon, but I haven't laid my hands on one. I did get to play around with a Ricky though, even though at the time I didn't know what I was doing.

With the warlock, it's got ups and downs. Talking only about the NJ, ups include awesome tone, very thin neck, surprising range, holds string tune for months on end, and of course, looking cool. It's ideally suited for speed in a range between jazz and 180 bpm, 16th note-pounding death metal, due to both the percussive punch of playing a string and the thin neck. And I've played that range lol.

I limit the downs to slightly above average weight and neck-dive, which drove me crazy for awhile but I came to accept, for lack of a good local luthier. This means it's not the easiest bass to play since you've got to adjust yourself to it or sit down to play it. I haven't played anything comparable with my style in that price range ($450 for a 5 string).

The guitars rarely have the neck dive issue - the bass's issue was probably an afterthought of reusing the body for much longer instruments than electric guitars. Mine is four feet long.

Best instrument I ever had was a Moore #3 based CMM... could repeatably position to the nanometer range, had sub arcsecond rotations, and was accurate to fractional microns over a 25" x 12" x 15" envelope. What an instrument that was!

Oh wait... you guys are talking about MUSICAL instruments!

Well then... I think I had a cool Kazoo once...

it was blue.

haha...well anything that has sub arcsecond rotations is pretty cool too.

I've got the yellow version Thoran. We should jam sometime :D

CerebroDragon 09-21-2005 08:22 AM

I've an ol' heavy Canora Bass, which is practically a Fender copy. I started with a black Samick, but swapped it with a mate because it didn't have the 70's vibe I was after! ;) Plus the Canora has a much warmer, more naturalistic tone and general aesthetic to it. Ideally, I'd love an EB Gibson, just so I can strike more Jack Bruce poses!

Ilander 09-21-2005 08:43 AM

I had a pretty sweet oscilloscope the other day, but I didn't get to use it much.

Best musical instrument...hmmm...I guess that trumpet I had for a while counts, though You'll never hear me say "I can play the trumpet."

Hey man, there is nothing wrong with a BC Rich Warlock. That's what I'm using, it beats my Fender Squier acoustic.

Callum 09-24-2005 07:39 AM

I have this totally awesome pair of drumsticks!

If you both have Bronze series, you're out of the fan club

:D

<font color=ggffcc>M256 Breech with a 120mm mounted to it! Sweet, you can listen to 'er all night as she 'cracks' out 'er wail.

M240B can hold it's own in a choir, thou most folks stop singing once she cuts loose.

Musical intruments? Ever heard of a 'flat top'?

Flat top?

Hmm, maple-top, quilt-top....flat top of the early 90's hair style...

You lost me there. Drums are flat on top, right?
