Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

<H3>this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone</H3>

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

<font color="pink">The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.</font>

Cloudbringer 09-05-2005 06:49 PM

<H1> <font color="plum"> PLEASE NOTE </font></H1>

This is a modified reminder that I've posted before in reply to someone asking "can we spam the cafe". It still holds true, so I'm going to repeat it periodically for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Read the first post of the thread, it's NOT a spam zone. If you want to discuss you grades, a problem with a teacher, the weather, your neighbor's new car etc.....etc.. (real life conversations) this is the place. I don't mind a SMALL amount of spam but when the Cafe gets to be 8 pages in one day and it's all one liner pure spam, I have to ask people not to do it because most of the members who would come to talk about their day or things that they want advice or sympathy or cheers on, will not post in that atmosphere. I want you to be comfy here, but not at the expense of other members.

So the answer is NO, I don't want to see page after page of roleplay spam or one liner spamfests that could be done on msn or aim etc. because our goal is to TALK WITH one another , not fill up a cafe in five hours. ;)

First post!
EDIT: Weee, I haven't gotten that in a while. Good evening, all. I am helping Galadria clear out our spare bedroom, pending guest arrival.

Wow, you must feel spushal getting first post :D . I know I do! .

I'm currently replaying NWN's OC and getting bored/annoyed with it and wondering what other good mods are out there. I must admit, I got so bored with it, I designed some of my own weapons and powered through.

Bungleau 09-05-2005 09:56 PM

Third post... can't quite make it in time, I guess.

Well, labor day is over... tried a new grill recipe for dinner (cajun-style flank steak, in memory of one of my favorite kinds of cooking). Turned out acceptible... not as good as I might have liked, but not as bad as it could have been. And there's some leftovers for a cajun steak sandwich in the next day or so... mmmmmm!

Getting ready for this week's activities... one customer meeting around here tomorrow, then Wednesday in Seattle and the next two days in Walla Walla, Washington. At least I'll be able to say I've been there :D

Finished up a Dungeon Lords game last night, and I think I'm going to open up a Might & Magic game. I really enjoy the early part of most CRPGs, before you get to the god-like stage. Maybe I'll crack BG back open again, but it's been a while.

Been on EfU?

Cloudbringer 09-06-2005 09:51 AM

We've been doing household chores around my place all weekend. We did manage to get out for lunch one day but it took forever to be served and we had to move from the outdoor seating area as they let people stand right near it and smoke upwind of us... ugh.. by the time we got served we'd been there nearly an hour so it wasn't a total loss but not nearly as relaxing as we'd hoped when we decided to eat there!

Zink Whistlefly 09-06-2005 10:13 AM

Well I've just finished writing a short profile about myself on Friends Reunited. It was when I'd finished it, sat back and read it that I realised just how boring I am, and how boring my life has been!

Now if you'll excuse me I need to go and book a sky-diving weekend or something equally extreme!

Give Pirates of the Sword Coast a try! Costs a pittance and lasted around 12 hours of play for me!

Calaethis Dragonsbane 09-06-2005 12:53 PM

Well, I've not tried EfU in a while - I may give that a go soon. As for Pirates of the Sword Coast, I've been deciding if I want to spend the money on it or not... I'd like to get it, but it means using a credit card - and my dad won't let me use his until the dollar drops against the pound some more. *sigh* Oh well.

(Yeah, I'm 20, but I still don't have a credit card... go figure? -_-)

Aragorn1 09-06-2005 01:02 PM

Can't you use a debit card?

Jorath Calar 09-06-2005 01:22 PM

10th post or so...

Anyway, I got my first homework assignment from discrete mathematics today, and I got 6 out of 10 for it... not bad... considering I am a complete numbskull when it comes to math...

Cloudbringer 09-06-2005 01:25 PM

Well, I won't be giving you any math tips, Jorath! I can't even get my check books balanced this month!

Wish I had more time to play BG- I keep thinking it's about time I finished it as I've owned it for years! :D

Attalus 09-06-2005 02:50 PM

BG feels rather quaint, nowadays, though BG2 sure doesn't. CD, have you played Aribeth's Dilemma, Aribeth's Revival, or the Dreamcatcher/Shadowlords/Demon series? I love all of those.

Yes, Yes, no, no, no.

I want the sequal Aribeth thingy to come out! The first was a cute mod and highly enjoyable.

BG would feel refreshing in 2005... but my pal has had it on loan for roundabout 3 years now...

Oh yea, this place hasn't changed much. ;) I'll have to check the recent posting history to see what for crisis you've been having.

Anyone from Germany posting here? I spent my last semester over there.
You and me, both. I'm gonna beta it when I get my new computer. It's far from done. "Aribeth's Fate" by Barlog is well into beta, might be on the Vault, I haven't checked.

Cloudbringer 09-08-2005 08:54 AM

I'm working on BG- farthest I've gotten now is all but Pelvdale, Ulgoth's Beard and one other that I'm told is tough, some citadel or something and Cloakwood (in the first part, before you got to the city). Just finished Firewine and that took some time. Since I only ever have about 20 minutes at a stretch to play, it's been hard to get THAT far! :D

Today was hellish, but luckily I have an afternoon left with nothing to do. We had to do a rowing training on the erg (rowing machine) consisting of two times 40' [minutes] continuous rowing. Low intensity, but due to the sun and the length of the training I was sweating my ass off. That, and the ergometer does not have a really comfortably-made seat. You can imagine the way I looked after two times forty minutes ;)

philip 09-08-2005 10:13 AM

Link where do you row? I signed up for Njord.

Link 09-08-2005 02:37 PM

You didn't!! That's the rowing club where I'm rowing mate!! What's your surname?!

Ivelliis 09-08-2005 04:51 PM

Heya guys, I finally got the internet. It's been a boring month or so without it, but I managed.

Started school again on Tuesday, doesn't feel like I broke up for 6 weeks, and already we are neck-deep in coursework. History about JFK, Maths Coursework, English on Great Expectations, jeez we've only been back 3 days.

Black Knight 09-08-2005 04:52 PM

Only got a small problem as I have no room lol. Going to be pretty hard but well didn't think I would move to leiden so fast.

Yeah I was in the eight with the waterskier and I am rowing in Delft at the moment, participating in the Minerva-project that will go to Boston this October. I was there at Njord at Tuesday night as well, I was the first one to tell about the different houses in Leiden, asking "everyone to bring a swimming pool tonight". I know, I know, it was a very bad story, but I was not drunk enough to tell a good one. Be there next Tuesday and I'll buy you a beer ;)

Nice! I can't wait for it to come out, so let me know what it's like! :D

Edit: I just dled Pirates of the Sword Coast, so I'll be off on that for a while.

No, they didn't bring a swimming pool. Kutsjaarzen

How was the KMT? Nice, huh? Although I didn't join Minerva I know enough people to know at least something about it ;)

About your lap-top; I haven't got the faintest clue. I myself never use a locker or stuff like that, because everything is within walking distance from my house. I live 100 meters from the University Library by the way.

Q'alooaith 09-09-2005 05:10 AM

Saw a specailist in london.

He's given me a prescription, and he's writing a letter to my GP so with some luck I'll get my stuff on the NHS, so a hella lot cheeper.

Attalus 09-09-2005 09:37 AM

Good morning, all. Lovely morning, here, brisk and clear. Piestrider is going to be here for his birthday, yay. Maybe I'll buy that new computer, then.

mini rant mode on: You know those supermarkets and stores that have 'cards' so you can get deals when they have sales? They put something on sale then tell you that you need to have a card to get the sale and make you fill out a form etc. Basically so they can electronically track your purchases (supposedly so they can send you coupons etc, but it's a marketing thing). Anyway, we have a grocery store that has them and I do have a card but it is so annoying to think they are tracking my every purchase.

Like someone somewhere is going "Hey, Mrs Nachtrafe must have company this week, she bought extra toilet paper and paper plates, or maybe her husband broke all the dishes and they all have diahrea?" Last night they wanted to use my card to ring up someone else's order and I said no. I don't like them tracking what I buy as it is, so I don't want someone else's stuff on my electronic file too! Just a pet peeve.

The thing that really irks me is that they are supposed to give the sale prices to ANYONE who wants them not just those with cards, it's illegal to tell someone they can't have the sale price without a card.

But the stores found a loophole and exploit it. They make it difficult to GET the sale price if you don't have a card but will do it if you make a fuss. This clerk at the grocery store last night told me they have to have a manager input a code each time that happens. Thus a lot of people won't wait for it and will pay the full price! Grrr.. that definitely annoys me!

Another ploy is to take the signs for the sale item and place them near another one NOT on sale and get you to buy the wrong thing if you don't read the sign and the product very carefully. You happily think you got a good price on it (until you check your receipts) and they clean up on higher priced items.

Jorath Calar 09-09-2005 11:07 AM

Urg... friday afternoon, and I'm waiting for my damn teacher to post assignment 2, he is supposed to post it on fridays and still no sign of it... oh how I wish I had internet connection at home....

Black Knight 09-09-2005 01:34 PM

Hey all...gotta love it when you boss gets fed up with the pop machines being out for the 10 day in a row and send you with company money to buy pop...ah corporate living.... Hope you are all having a good day.

Attalus 09-09-2005 04:26 PM

Hey, there, BK. Long time, no see. Don't be such a stranger.

NiceWorg 09-09-2005 05:25 PM

Leiden? If Im not entirely mistaken... me and 3 pals were there on our 2-week European "car excursion" - I'm struggling to find an appropriate name for that madness - less than a month ago. I was living in Kiel from March till August, and the guys and gals joined me from all over the world. Or isn't Leiden somewhere close to Den Haag? We were there too, and briefly in Utrecht and Amsterdam.

Why I write this... we spent the night in our car in some parking lot in Leiden in the middle of a forest. There were some immature kids racing around almost the whole night driving the same silly circle from this parking place to another, stopping now and then. Let me guess, this is some new trend? Like, those places serve as meeting places for... >insert something here<

Sounds familiar? :D

Link 09-09-2005 05:28 PM

Parking lot in a forest? That doesm't sound familiar, but Leiden is indeed close to the Hague (Den Haag). Of course, it could be a parking lot I haven't been to before. A gay meeting area or something :D

Heh... the Gap does that all the time. I only buy jeans there, and for some reason, the price tag on the jeans themselves is always less than what they actually cost...

Ah, shoot, I just sprayed pop all over my keyboard... lovely.

On a sidenote, i'm off to a reunion tomorrow of my old crew of footballsupporters, there should be worth a 1000 years of prisonsentences present there. :D It's gonna be so much fun seeing all those long forgotten faces again, digging up old combatstories and stuff. I'm really curious how everyone from the old days are doing right now, i've lost track of most of them when i moved to Utrecht 10 years ago. Some of em are killed, some in prison, but i guess i'll find out all about it tomorrownight, it should be fun.

I think I can hear the bell ringing... ;) Gay meeting area...

There were a few, it was smaller road next to a highway and lead nowhere, really. We were looking for a camping area but at that time it became unnecessary. We left the madness before the sun had time to rise. ;)

Well, I finished Pirates of the Sword Coast today, and whilst it was highly enjoyable right up until when I left the port/sea town and the Sandy Spit, I must say, I grew disappointed.

You could see what happened next from a mile away... and I was actually hoping to *play* captain and get to sail around to a few various places, or even fight a couple of ship battles of my own choosing. Maybe raid a couple of merchant vessels, loot a town - you know, piraty sort of stuff. :(
There was also a lack of romance, and the main 'villain', well... I never got to *talk* to her afterwards. I did both endings, and I decided I prefer to leave the ghost unavenged - it was more in character.
But aside from that, and being a tad too short for my tastes, it was highly enjoyable. I wonder if they'll make a sequal.

Incidently, has anyone tried out any other *good* mods? Either premium or single player.
Cheers in advance,

CD. ^^

Edit: I also wanted to eat Garm - who was a nice touch, btw - as was Poly the Parrot. Too bad I couldn't.
I'm actually somewhat surprised - I tried a new combination today - my bard(4)/pale master(2)/RDD(2) and it was quite effective! Especially given how quickly I could accquire the two PrC classes.
