I've seen talk here about SoA asking for a CD5 and you know i havent paid attention to it...until now :(
Yeah I reinstalled BG2 SoA and it keeps asking me for Cd's 3,4 and then 5 almost immediately after another. Since the search option is'nt here no more can anyone fill me in?

Jon Irenicus 09-03-2002 06:15 AM

Hmm... I had a friend who also have this problem of the computer asking for the 5th CD, ask Dundee, he might have something that might help u.

TaSSaDaR 09-03-2002 06:15 AM

I got the same problem. I merely quit the installation process and repeated again with no such bug appearing any more. So, as says Uncle Billy G., quit and try again :D

SpiritWarrior 09-03-2002 06:20 AM

Well I tried it like 4 times already...same ole crap...im hoping (well praying) that one of the cd's hasnt become corrupt ...

TaSSaDaR 09-03-2002 06:23 AM

No corruption. You are doing the full or the recommended install??

SpiritWarrior 09-03-2002 06:36 AM

Ive tried both mate, :(

TaSSaDaR 09-03-2002 06:52 AM

Then I do not know where does the solution lie. I re-tried and succeeded. You should probably try to remove a line from your baldur.ini file in the installation dir referring to the location of the fifth cd (alias section), that might work.

When it asks for CD5 just insert the first CD(1)

<font color="lightblue">That won`t work- I tried it myself when I had the same problem ;)

There is a whole list of trouble shooting procedures listed somewhere, but I couldn`t be bothered finding them; but these are the two I cab remember, that have actually worked for people:

1) When inserting each disk, wait for it to stop spinning. Even wait up to 2-3 minutes to be sure.

2) If you have alot of disk space, copy all the files from all the CDs onto HD; putting them in one location in the same format as what they are on the CDs- ie. copy all 4 CDs straight to the same location.
Run setup.exe from there, install it whereever you like; if it works you can then delete the original directory that you copied the files into </font>

Dundee Slaytern 09-03-2002 09:05 AM

Eh? Well... the usual solution is as follows.

You may or may not know that each time you install a game, some residue files and folders get left behind even after you uninstall the game. Assuming you installed in the default directory, uninstall the entire game, then go to <font color="white">C:\Program Files</font>, enter the folder labelled, "<font color="white">Black Isle</font>" and delete the folder labelled, "<font color="white">BGII - SoA</font>".

Now we install. I recommend the Full Install option. As you should know, all CD-Drives have an indicator light. When the installer asks for the next disk, put in the disk and WAIT until the indicator light is stable( not flickering). When it is stable, then click 'OK'. This will prevent misreadings.

I had the exact same problem and the easiest way to get rid of it is to follow the instructions on this site
It works perfectly for me now.

Well guys, thank you for all the helpful tips, im afraid I found out what my problem was. On attempting to copy the 4 cds to my Hard Drive a file called 'CREAnim.bif' from CD2 came up as corrupted...it was actually at this point of the regular installation that the CD5 prompt would come up too. Simply a bug due to it not finding an intact file I think. I wonder does anyone know how I could get this one file...perhaps theres somewhere I could download it from..?

<font color="lightblue">Copy every file bar it; then copy it separately. </font>

SpiritWarrior 09-04-2002 05:22 AM

Tried it mate, a good few times...it either freezes up or tells me the file cannot be copied etc. I think my only hope is to find someone who is willing to send me this one file, I dunno how it would work tho...

TaSSaDaR 09-04-2002 06:41 AM

it will work. Unfortunately I am at work now so no file-transfers. Rules can be soo strict... Hope someone will help you ;)

SpiritWarrior 09-04-2002 03:47 PM

Well if anyone would it'd be greatly appreciated. I was about to install The Darkest Day mod for the first time until this problem came up. If theres anyone willing to help please either leave a message here. The file I need is not that big either so it shouldnt take long. Thanks guys!

<font color="lightblue">Have you tried running setup after you get the Cannot Copy File ??
Sometimes these files aren`t actually necesary for the game to run; it might just be a little slower or have some small details a little off colour or such </font>

Lennon thanks dude :D It never entered my head to try that and when I did hey, it worked!!!! Well so far lol - I've left a tech post on the bioware forum to check just how important that file actually is. Someone did offer to send it me but it turns out it was bigger than i thought as the corrupted file i had appeared smaller (lost data) and right now im on a dial up connection (...) so it'd take too long to ensure a stable connection between two people.
Cheers mate for that great idea! So far so good.
Thanks to all for your great insights as always :D
