If you could do anything in the world, anything you wanted to...what would it be?

Firestormalpha 06-24-2005 11:37 PM

It's been done.

But in the interest of good humor.

Hmmmm.... strangely, nothing comes to mind. I'm either under-ambitious, or content with my life as is. Or I'm just tired and can't think right now.

Sir Goulum 06-24-2005 11:38 PM

Go into space, most likely. Either that or get a billion bucks somehow.

Zebodog 06-24-2005 11:55 PM

It's been done? You'll have to excuse my n00biness!

I figure if I could do anything it would be to create world peace, to make every human equal.

I'd rather be poor and live in a world of total peace than be rich and live in a world like we do today.

Kyrvias 06-25-2005 12:10 AM

^That, is the worst HALLMARK greeting card I have ever heard.

seriously though, I would probably... have a dictatorship with me at its ruler with no opposition whatsoever!1! MWA HA HA HA HAAAAA

To make everyone equal freedom must be sacrificed. Equality and freedom cannot truly coexist. I like my freedom, and I like the responsibility that comes with it. Equality is all well and good. It's a good attitude to have towards one another, but genuine equality kills too much freedom.

What does being poor or rich have anything to do with the world today?

If I could do anything, I'd bump off Hugh Hefner and take his job

Why can't freedom and equality coexist? I'd like to hear your reasoning behing that.

Freedom and Equality can't coexist because we choose it not to. With Equality there can be no rich. We must all be better than our neighbor, we must have a better yard, a better car. Our PC's must be better than the guy we are talking to on the internet.

Anything is possible if you want it bad enough. I guess some of us don't want equality that much
I'm sorry but your point escapes me to a most frightening degree.

Freedom and equality can't exist because if everyone and everything is equal, how can you be an individual? You couldn't be, you'd have to do everything like everyone else would. There wouldn't be competition, drive, motivation, nothing. The world would be so horribly bland and boring if everyone was equal.

I think you're reading too much into the 'poor and rich' aspect. Not everyone wants something better than the next person. We'd like to have money so we can have nice things. Good meals, a nice car, a nice home, it doesn't always have to be an ego battle like you're making it out to be.

Jorath Calar 06-25-2005 06:48 AM

how about just giving everyone equal oppurtunity to freedom and stop this silly argument.... okey?

anyway, I'd buy a tropical island and invite all IW members to a month long party...

Winter Wolf 06-25-2005 08:32 AM

I'd invest in better Japanes-English dictionaries. Ever tried translating 12 pages of technical documents with NO experience in a technical field? So much fun. I think it's time for a HaPi (Harbin Pijiu) One of maybe two Chinese beers worth drinking. I think they should market to the english speaking world: "Everybody get HaPi!" Yes, translating tech documents has fried my brain....

Me as well, but I'd make it so I could paint warhammer miniatures with SOME degree of skill. Or figure out how to lay interlock.

Iron Greasel 06-25-2005 03:01 PM

I'd become the Ultimate and Unquestionable Dictator of All. Very much like Kyrvias.

Illumina Drathiran'ar 06-25-2005 03:15 PM

I'll take a page out of my "It Would Be Great To Be God" theory and say that it would be great to either call down lightning bolts at will and fry people, or make their heads explode by concentrating really hard. I'd love that.

That, or I'd love to be fluent in a romance language, or perhaps Gaelic... You have to be specific. I don't want to say "I wish I were fluent in a foreign language" and suddenly know a language they only speak in Kyrzygraznystan or some other country that nobody, including its own citizens, can locate on a map.

Q'alooaith 06-25-2005 04:37 PM

If I could could do anything?

I'd expand the size of the planet by 1000%, also expanding and moving the other planets and star in the solar system to acomidate this change.

Then I'd remove any man made changes, getting rid of all this man made stuff and so on.

So everyone wakes up in the middle of the wilderness buck naked, and with no tools.

I'd then sit and watch in overview, come on, it'd be interesting to see what happened.

Kyrvias 06-25-2005 05:09 PM

So you'd be the only one with technology? Watching to see how mankind plays out?

...nice

Bungleau 06-25-2005 06:05 PM

Watching a worldwide game of "Survivor", eh? Except without the challenges... :D

Gabrielles blades 06-25-2005 11:01 PM

hrm
many different things to do if you could do anything
I think i would advance technology by a few hundred years so that the humans could move underground or live in huge pyramids in the ocean leaving the rest of the world to go back to nature. nanomachines or something could harvest resources in nondestructive ways as well as completely recycle all waste. they could probably also design bacteria to live in our intestines that would make us digest things more efficiently and so have to eat less.

Kyrvias 06-26-2005 12:15 AM

holy crap...

your post count is 666. Its a bad omen.

Firestormalpha 06-26-2005 12:47 AM

Not such a bad omen when you realize that the count will change once Gabrielles makes another post.

Don't take the random appearance of a number as overly significant.

Well anyways if I could do anything in the whole wide world? (only cuz I never really answered the question before) I'd ask out the girl I like :D . For some reason I never seem able to get up the guts. I've never been very good about relationships.

Yep. Definitely. I'd make the world a better place though.

That or... wings. Yeah, flying is sick. I would save soo much on plane tickets

I don't see anything random about the post counts, I thought they came in consequtive (sp?) order...

Very very weird.

Just because I've often thought the same thing....but it would also be cool if we went back to those days, and there was just me and some fine woman...and I'd have to invent everything and develop every theory.

The offspring would just be slaves who did my bidding, to help me in my work!

Oh, and plus I'd be immortal, because if the world got where it did today in 3000 years of whatever, it'd take my on my own at least 400 million years.

Would be cool though.

Oh, and when I'm done, I return back to this exact moment that I left!
With the added benefit of all your work or would you write it off as a dream?

Lavindathar 06-26-2005 09:03 AM

Good question!

The reason I say return back, is obviously for my family and creature comforts, that maybe didn't invent!

So I reckon, as if I'd have never been away. So as a dream.

But, I'd have all the knowledge of my 400 million years work!

So, anything I did that no-one else did, I'd do, and then be rich!

Plus, I'd be the smartest man in the world lol. Which, would ultimately lead to the richest!

Sir Krustin 06-26-2005 12:18 PM

If I could do anything, it would be immortal.

Wouldn't the sudden increase in gravity kill everything, rip stones apart and flatten mountains? It could be fun to watch though. Trees splitting under their own weight, all buildings in the world simultaneously collapsing, mountains ripping apart and the moon probably falling. Pretty nasty for everyone not somehow protected from it.

Q'alooaith 06-27-2005 05:55 AM

I didn't say anything about mass IG

Callum 06-27-2005 07:19 AM

In that case gravoty would decrease by the square of the increase in radius. ;)

Firestormalpha 06-27-2005 01:19 PM

Wait, if you increase the size of the planet but not the mass wouldn't that turn us into an extremely thin gas planet?

Nightwing 06-27-2005 02:25 PM

I'd be a Super Hero who always wins.

Lavindathar 06-27-2005 05:00 PM

Mine included being immortal,pretty much.

And yes, increasing the size without the mass by that large a scale would f**k us up.

As would increasing the size and the mass.

Likewise. :(

Iron Greasel 06-29-2005 04:08 AM

All who wish for immortality, don't forget the part about being able to end your immortality at any time. Immortality can really suck.

One way to create a new larger earth without destroying all would be creating a flat world, make gravity a property of the universe itself rather than of matter, and then make all the planets and stars and stuff circle the pancake earth rather than the other way round. Then we attach a dynamo to the corpse of Galileo Galiei and create infinite amounts of energy as he spins in his grave.

robertthebard 06-29-2005 04:29 AM

I'm not sure, but I think immortality would bite. Probably with all capital letters. If I could do anything at all, I'd become a famous musician, so that I wouldn't have to ask out the girl of my dreams, she'd be asking me... :D
