This is great news, and I hope the results are awesome and it's FDA approved. Then, everyone gets it, then they ban smoking.

Lets keep our fingers crossed :D

But with the amount of money the people killer corporations like BAT and others have I’m sure that a dirty tricks campaign, questioning the safety of the product, will not be long away.

KDogRex 05-14-2005 01:40 AM

What's this? Smoking won't kill me anymore? YAY!!!! Oh...Darn, it'll still kill me...oh well...

This does look interesting tho. I'll be interested in seeing what triels bring for it. Even more interested in seeing how the tobacco lobby in the US responds...

johnny 05-14-2005 05:17 AM

But i don't wanna quit dammit. :D

Crap, loads of it. If you really want to quit, you will succeed, without any injections or god knows what other BS. My brother said he wanted to stop, just like that. That was 9 weeks ago, he hasn't touched a cigarette since, even though there's still a pack in his desk, just in case he might feel like having a smoke. But so far that wasn't necessary. I can do that too, IF i really really wanted to. But i don't, i like it too much.

RevRuby 05-14-2005 06:17 AM

true, johnny, one needs to really want to. it usually takes making the decision and sticking to it. for my mother she tried for years...and years to quit. now she finally is, but not because of practice, because she atarted to see cigarettes for what they were, her enemy. many smokers, even those trying to quit, see them as a companion, a help, and it's that state of mind that causes failure. my mom has been quit for 32 months.

Tyrion 05-14-2005 06:29 AM

will this help if im already addicted?

johnny 05-14-2005 07:58 AM

It's all between the ears, you don't need any friggin injections. How much does one need to pay for such an injection btw ?

Sir Degrader 05-14-2005 10:44 AM

I have a cheaper solution: I come over to your house and break your fingers for ten dollars. Then you can't smoke, and get disability insurance!

Sigmar 05-14-2005 10:59 AM

People will probably started biting cigarettes out of other people's mouths if you did that Degrader!

Sir Degrader 05-14-2005 11:12 AM

Then I remove their teeth. Its fool proof!

I bet you ten dollars that you won't have any teeth left in your mouth before you can say "cigarette".

Chewbacca 05-14-2005 06:10 PM

Sweet! I enjoy smoking alot but have always disliked the addiction. Being able to do it once a day/week/month without having "The Jonez" would be quite excellent.

Oh, and smoking will be totally banned over my dead American body. I enjoy it, it is my right to do it. No more prohibiton and the crime it creates. We have enough already.

machinehead 05-14-2005 06:34 PM

I enjoy smoking and will until it kills me. :D

There is some truth to this, but many people don't have strong willpower. My cousin does : he used to smoke heavily and one day he said I'm not smoking now for a month, and he didn't. Then he smoked again just cos he felt like it (he was over the addiction) then stopped again. so basically he can start and then stop for weeks whenever he wants. But this doesn't work for everybody

johnny 05-14-2005 08:01 PM

Yep, that's a strong will, he knows now that should he really want to, he can drop the habit forgood. My mom on the other hand is telling everyone willing to hear it that she quit and never smoked again. That was more than a year and half now, but what she doesn't tell them, is that she quit smoking cigarettes, and started smoking those thin cigars, about the size of a cigarette. When i make fun of it, she replies that cigars aren't inhaled over the lungs. As if smoking cigars isn't damaging your health. :D

Btw...i've told her she's not allowed to smoke em in my house, they stink.

Vaskez 05-14-2005 08:05 PM

lol! Yeah I remember back when I was 17 we were in a bar and one of my mates thought he was really cool cos he had some wierd cigars and started smoking them and we nearly got chucked out cos they stank so much :D (but we didn't get chucked out for being underage )

Sir Degrader 05-14-2005 08:08 PM

Speaking of strong/stinking, anyone ever tried a gaulloise? They're made in France and reek worse then the french.

But they put hair on your chest. :D

I've tried them, but they are way too strong. If that's how all cigarettes would taste, i wouldn't be a smoker.

Ha! Those I haven't smoked them since High School.

I smoke a brand of premium organic tobacco. I love it's smell. Pure mild tobacco...no filler or additives.

I do find the odor of stale tobacco unpleasant so I smoke outdoors.

vesselle 05-15-2005 12:41 PM

smoked for 8 years... at least a pack a day.
woke up one morning and threw away the pack and haven't smoked since. 'bout 5 years now.

YAY me!!

shamrock_uk 05-15-2005 01:36 PM

Yeah, I don't really get the whole addiction thing. I go from smoking a couple of packs a week to none at all without any effort at all really. Been about 3 months since I last felt like one, but its no big deal if I have another one because I never really get the compulsion to pick one up again.

And I would be against a ban also.

Now, it says it also works for cocaine?? That has the potential to really turn around lives...

Vaskez 05-16-2005 09:48 PM

Some people are just lucky with willpower, I have crap willpower, good job I don't smoke...

Timber Loftis 05-17-2005 02:07 PM

I quit for a year once, and I almost never smoke before 8 pm. I usually don't smoke unless I'm having a drink, but I drink like a fish, so . . .

Ziroc, dude, I certainly hope they don't ban smoking. Whether or not I do it. It's a free country, but getting less free by the day. Of course, once smoking is banned, then we should ban coffee -- which ruins teeth and is the result of countless office rug stains. Then, let's ban sugar, because that's a drug too.

Meh.... We should be legalizing substances, not adding more banned substances to the list.

Dragonshadow 05-18-2005 08:25 AM

Yes, then let's ban teh interent because it is addictive...
I know where you're coming from Timber.
I don't smoke. And I've been trying on convince a friend to stop, but he won't, so I have given up.(almost!)
I have no problem with people smoking, just please: not too near me. I hate the smell, and it makes me choke. Just like spray deoderants.
I think i have pretty crap will power as well vaskez. I guess you're either lucky or you aren't.

But the article states that you won't get much enjoyment from smoking or coccaine, so if you did get immunised there would be no point in smoking, there would be no benifit.
Personally, i wouldn't get immunised, but it could be life changing for some people.
