the previous thread is here:

Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

Cloudbringer 03-30-2005 10:54 AM

 PLEASE NOTE

This is a modified reminder that I've posted before in reply to someone asking "can we spam the cafe". It still holds true, so I'm going to repeat it periodically for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Read the first post of the thread, it's NOT a spam zone. If you want to discuss you grades, a problem with a teacher, the weather, your neighbor's new car etc.....etc.. (real life conversations) this is the place. I don't mind a SMALL amount of spam but when the Cafe gets to be 8 pages in one day and it's all one liner pure spam, I have to ask people not to do it because most of the members who would come to talk about their day or things that they want advice or sympathy or cheers on, will not post in that atmosphere. I want you to be comfy here, but not at the expense of other members.

So the answer is NO, I don't want to see page after page of roleplay spam or one liner spamfests that could be done on msn or aim etc. because our goal is to TALK WITH one another , not fill up a cafe in five hours. ;)

Ilander 03-30-2005 10:56 AM

first post! I finally got it!

Well, I'm off to English to talk about gender roles, yet again...Hey, out of curiousity, what do you all think the role of each sex in the modern relationship is?

[ 03-30-2005, 10:57 AM: Message edited by: Ilander ]

Xen 03-30-2005 10:59 AM

Woah a new cafe! I had an exam from English lanugage today. I am very tired becuase I needed over an hour to get home. There was so much traffic around here. Grr. I also injured my leg and I must not do rapid movmements or running. :(

johnny 03-30-2005 11:00 AM

Well, the role of the "other sex" is to keep me happy, bring me beer and stuff. I'm not very demanding. :D

Intrepid 03-30-2005 11:20 AM

I think the gender roles depend on the relationship, some people treat their partner differently and expect different things.

Gangrell 03-30-2005 11:44 AM

Gender roles, only really one way it goes around here. Guy takes care and looks after the girl, and she doesn't dump him. Simple really

Ilander 03-30-2005 12:32 PM

English exam, eh, Xen? How do you think you did on it?

Oh, and Johnny, women also love to be called "wench" when making you happy or bringing you beer and stuff ;) ...lol

I'd say that your description fits a lot of the stuff I see, Gangrell, though I have to go a bit more in depth for my 9 page paper.

Anybody out there have a paper due next week also?

Well I have a very good felling about it. I always have. But there's a problem, you see. I'm cursed. Every and I mean every exam from English I take or have taken I always get a C. Always. If I study or if I don't. I hope I'll get better this time.

Dron_Cah 03-30-2005 12:37 PM

I do! Mine will only somewhat touch on the Freudian ideology, and even less on the Oedipal conflicts, thank God. And as far as the modern relationship, we as community prefer to think of it ideally, as a totally equal partnership, with mutual respect and responsibilty. HA!! Anyways, I'm definitely not qualified to discuss this, so I'll leave it be, lol. Just ate lunch, and ran a couple of errands. Now, to waste time! :D

shamrock_uk 03-30-2005 12:54 PM

Well, hey, I'm just feeling lucky. I actually use 'wench' as a term of affection and the gf likes it. No, really! A big smile when you say it johnny, that's all you need

But yeah, I guess I'm quite a traditional guy when it comes to the roles in a relationship, and luckily she feels much the same way.

I see the breakdown of these traditions one of the primary reasons for society's problems.

And Xen, you're practically a native speaker..err..typer! You only get C's? Your examiner needs a smack round the head. Unless your English exams are like ours, in which case actually being able to read/write/spell only counts for 3 marks whereas your ability to pontificate about crap literature counts for 97.

Thanks for that compliment. ;) I never had any problems with English. I speak/write it fluently as far as I can rememebr. So I really don't know what I do wrong.

johnny 03-30-2005 01:47 PM

Then let me point it out for you....S.P.E.L.L.I.N.G.

Did a 7-8 page paper before Spring Break and turned it in. Had to break down and analyze the dynamics of the third fight scene in Beowulf the Dane. Wasn't as hard as I thought it'd be.

Mack_Attack 03-30-2005 02:33 PM

Ok for anyone that has had a pay cheque I ask you this. If you were over paid. Would you let payroll know about it. Or would you let them come to you?

I have been over paid and I am thinking of just letting it slide. But then again if they find out they will want there money back. I should just put into a seperate account for a few months and then if they take it back, then I will have it. Keep in mind I work for a very large company that makes 100's of millions dollars a year. And they have over paid others here all the time and it has never been found. Even with that what would you do?

philip 03-30-2005 02:45 PM

Tricky situation there Mack ;) I don't know, doesn't seem like a bad plan to see if they find out. But well I know another story of someone around my age (nearly 18) who found some glitch in a banking system and got a few million and now has a huge problem cause he had to tell it. Guess it would have been worse if the bank found out. Guess I'd go for telling,

Over here we have maths 1 and 2, physics 1,2 and chemistry 1,2. Now I only need the 1 subjects but I've been doing the 2 subjects as well cause I like it. Now I need to have an 8 (out of 10) average to get into medicine without trouble and in the city I want. So I decided to let the 2 subjects drop, didn't do a physics 2 test. Now I got my maths 1,2 results back and I had a 9.8 for 1 and a 9.5 for 1,2. Now I don't know if I should have dropped the subjects :( On one hand it's pretty safe cause I have a few other subjects to compensate with. On the other hand if I just do the final exam normal I can use those points to compensate my lower marks. Hmm don't know what to do anymore..

Bungleau 03-30-2005 03:50 PM

The ethical thing is to tell them that your pay doesn't appear to be correct. Once. If they can't fix it after that, too bad.

I had something similar happen at an apartment I rented. When I went to move out, I thought I owed them money. They didn't think so. I told 'em one last time. I was told that if they didn't think so, I didn't owe... so I left :D

It is a dilemma. The half-way answer is probably to keep it safe if needed in something that will earn you interest. Unless you can think of a good reason why they gave you more money... could be a bonus thingie or something. :D

Mack_Attack 03-30-2005 05:27 PM

Well the only other thing I could add is that I have had alot of trouble in the past with my pay stub. Not getting the right hours and no OT. So it is a never ending problem. I have left messages with the payroll and have never got any comment back from them. So I think I have decided that I will keep the extra cash and see what happens. ;) Man I still feel bad.

wellard 03-31-2005 12:55 AM

Mack_Attack the extra payment is a pay readjustment for all the times they screwed you. pocket the money and do not look back :D

At my workplace i've been underpaid about thirty or so times and overpaid only twice, sort of like a supermarket checkout the mistakes always seem to be in there favour .... odd that is'nt it

philip 03-31-2005 05:28 AM

Tomorrow I'm going to entertain my English teachers with a conversation about RPGs Hope it goes well cause it's for my exam. Dutch will be harder :( Have to make my teachers think I know a lot about literature. O well at least I read the books.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 03-31-2005 06:19 AM

Does anybody know why my Drizzt pic is suddenly not showing in the SoA Forum? It just has a little orange box now?

Oh, and I sure would like me some of that Cloudy breabfast; havn't had it in weeks!

Hmm, see what I mean about my pic?

Now the dern thing is back!?

Wellard you are my kind of man. I agree take it while you can. ;)

Well second day shift then onto night tommorow. And survivor is on tonight I am excited.

Ilander 03-31-2005 10:30 AM

Man o man, today's gonna be filled with filling out paperwork...ick. I'll live, of course, but it's still no fun!

Bungleau 03-31-2005 10:37 AM

So... wellard and Mack... you guys let these incorrect paychecks just sit there, or do you get corporate to clean its act up? My commission checks are routinely wrong (in their favor as well), and I regularly contact them to clean it up. And they do... to the point where I've asked them to show me the statements before they're approved so I can make sure they're correct.

For the price of a banana, I could get a monkey to do this work... and probably have the same odds of it being done right. :D

Mack_Attack 03-31-2005 10:41 AM

Well when it is in there favor I always get it fixed. And I do get the payment just it takes a while. ;) But like I said before this time the payment is in my favor.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 04-01-2005 04:59 AM

Happy April fools everybody!

I don't know if my work is trying to play a joke on me, but I just checked my account and my pay didn't go in last night. :(

Ivelliis 04-01-2005 07:02 AM

That's a pretty mean joke if it is one Variol. I haven't played any April Fools this year, but my friend did the old put pencil round a coin and say "I bet you can't roll it down your face" trick to her dad.

What? What kinda trick is that?

Anyway, I just checked my account again and the money is in there. Maybe it just updated or something?

philip 04-01-2005 09:03 AM

Over here it were mainly stink bombs for the younger. We had oral exams and that was no joke :(

Man, I hate it when you're trying to study with somebody and you can't hear each other while you're only half a meter away from each other. And then the complete floor of people passing the chamber in which I try to read a text (during my exam). But well, got a 7.3 for english mainly cause I had a bit of an accent which could be better. I prepared well according to my teacher (did nothing for it lol) and a 7.2 for literature which is great cause I expected it to be a bit lower cause I had to say "I don't know" a bit too much for my liking. 2 test left next week and then only the exams all of the country does in a few months

Well when they try to roll the coin down their face, they get a big line on their face, and most of the time they are none the wiser.

Sir Goulum 04-01-2005 12:10 PM

My parents/brother probably won't do anything to me. Teachers can't do anything either as I'm on spring break.

pritchke 04-01-2005 01:34 PM

I believe this is my first post in the Cafe.

Speaking of April Fools the game Nation States played one on me. I went there today and it said the site was being investigated for participating in terrorism and all people on there would be investigated. When I looked at the organization and realized I had never heard of it before I started laughing. My wife got me today by saying her dog took a pee on the carpet after I had let her outside. God Bless Pope John Paul II!

Hey, anyone want to take the Physics test I have Tuesday for me? I am woefully unprepared :(

Mack_Attack 04-01-2005 10:24 PM

What did the pope die?

Physics yeah mail it up to me and I will have a look for ya. ;)

Well starting my nights. 3 of them and then some days off. Anyone else working tonight?

Dron_Cah 04-02-2005 12:12 AM

The Pope is not dead. Well not as of right now. He is sick and dieing, though. I am glad to see a man so deserving finally get his final peace, but am very saddened to see one of the greatest leaders our Church has ever seen go. :( May God strengthen him until the very end.
Hello, all. On a slightly different note, I believe a drunken girl left a message on my machine. Strange. (And yes, she was drunk, as her speech was nigh intelligible.) Anyways, I think I'm going to take a shower and turn in early. If you believe inthe power of prayer, I ask that you please join me in praying for the Pontiff, inasmuch that Lord's will be done.
Hope my post isn't too offensive/religious to anyone. God bless.

Attalus 04-02-2005 10:06 AM

I din't have any April Fools' jokes played on me. My reputation as a big ole grump probably helped me, there.

Sir Goulum 04-02-2005 12:22 PM

How come we didn't get that shaky screen again this year?

Mack_Attack 04-02-2005 11:02 PM

Just a reminder to people that have to spring there clocks ahead it has to be done tonight. So do not be late for work. ;)

Bonus I only have to work 11 hours tonight and not 12. Yessssssss

Bungleau 04-02-2005 11:10 PM

I'm going to miss that hour of sleep tonight... got to remember it's already midnight, instead of just 11. And I have to be up early tomorrow to play drums at church... *yawn* that should be good ;)

For a change of pace, we decided that since my daughter has consistently asked about having a garden for the past couple of years, we'd try a small one this year to see how she did. It's totally against my desires (I have this hate-hate relationship with gardens and work), but it did involve power tools... :D

*ahem* That's power tools to build a raised bed garden... a rectangular box eight feet long, two feet wide, and about 18 inches deep. Made my daughter go with me to buy the wood. Made her help me assemble it. Was going to have her help me saw the wood, but I only found one pair of safety glasses... got to instill good habits early, you know...

So now there's a big empty box in the back yard. Next weekend (her birthday!) we'll get some soil for it, and a weekend or two after that, we'll start some planting.

Such fun ;)
