It's out now and I got one today and it is sweeeeeeeet!!! Beautiful bright screen, and the graphics are simply unbelievable. I got Wipeout and Twisted Metal. I would have gotten Metal Gear Solid Acid, but we sold out before I commited to buying. Now I only have to wait til May for the PSP GTA.

Nintendo has some serious catch-up to do in the realm of handheld gaming and Nokia should just retire the Ngage, that's long over due.

Well off I go to cause some vehicular carnage. Cheers!

Hivetyrant 03-25-2005 05:09 AM

Nah the DS is better in my opinion, I prefer the games, touch screen, longer battery life, MUCH cheaper, and if I want a multimedia system I can go out and buy one ;)

But im not making fun of them, I would just prefer to wait untill the price comes down...Plus they haven't even released them here yet :D

Gangrell 03-25-2005 05:26 AM

Hmm, was wondering what PSP meant. Well, call me old fashioned, but I'd rather sit on my ass at my house, glued to a 25 inch tv playing video games

Aragorn1 03-25-2005 06:03 AM

Playstation portable? Not sure though.

Sythe 03-26-2005 07:28 AM

I am going to get it for sure. Seeing my friend play Spiderman 2 the movie and Metal Gear Solid: Acid has more than convinced me of getting this handheld. No more of that idiotic fancy dual screen DS pah!

I am sure you cannot play video games on your 25 inch tv wherever you go.

I hope for you that they've taken care of a little problem they had: http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/01...s_6116985.html

I'm not going to buy the PSP mainly because of the price. If it goes down in price I might reconsider though

I wonder what they'll think up next. x box portable?

Chewbacca 03-26-2005 08:53 PM

I just finished putting 30 or so MP3s and the entire LOTR Fellowship of the Ring movie (ripped from DVD and encoded for the PSP) on my new toy. I wanna see a DS owner do that! ( ain't gonna happen)

Nah, I wont truly dis the DS. The PSP is simply in an entirely different leauge IMO. I'll probably get a DS when Mariokart comes out for it. ( If my Wife ever lets me use the credit card again! )

BTW- At my work (Gamestop), we had 2 complaints about dead pixels (out of 50+ sales) and one person had a totally defective unit w/ a broken screen. The 2 complainers about dead pixels were both employees and both extremely picky. I couldnt even tell they had a problem until they pointed it out to me. If my unit had that problem I would have probably not even noticed.

So far the sticky square button issue hasn't come up, but IIRC Sony fixed this in the batch headed for North America and replaced any defective Japanese units for free.

My unit has zero dead pixels and works flawlessly. The battery worked for 2-3 hours of Twisted Metal play today and still has 3/4 a charge. Many of our lauch day customers came back the next day for more stuff and all were very happy except the one with a broken unit of course.

All-in-all this is the coolest gaming device I have ever seen. My feelings towards it rival the time I first saw arcade quality graphics on a home TV console or true realistic 3D in a PC game. I've been playing TM online through the wireless network, listening to music and playing games on break at work and my next airplane trip will be the most enjoyable ever. It will be hard to choose how to pass the time...watch a movie, play a game, or listen to some tunes?

The best $250.00 bucks Ive ever spent.

Gawd- Sony should be paying me to write this post! :D

I got my DS on the first day it was released and oh my god i will never look back the grapics combined with the touchscreen controls is great!! and the variety of games is amazing.
it seems to me the psp is just a portable racing game all the games are going to be racing sure there MGS but look at nintendos line up for the next 4 months VARIETY.
But i am an loyal nintendo fan so this is only my opinion.although if the psp offers something decent i might consider buying it (I MIGHT) but it will have to be something great!!

Anyone ever get the feeling that game system designers are kind of losing their sight on... you know, the games? Don't get me wrong Chewy, it sounds like a great piece of equipment, but it's more or less an MP3 player and a Ps2 thrown together. I think that since they can't really advance any further than they have in graphics, they have to aim for all the other markets too, music and such. Just doesn't seem fit for a game system.

Although, I do have the feeling since it is portable, there will be at least one story within the next week that says someone got into a car wreck, not because of a cell phone, but because of playing the PSP

Nah, games are still what its all about. The movies, music and other features not yet released like web browsing are just like extra bonuses. The PS2 plays CDs and DVDs, but this didn't lessen it as a game console, nor did it impede the development of some truly excellent games. The same can be said about the Xbox.

I bought the thing for the games, but since I dont have a MP3 player and I already copy all my DVDs onto my PC these extras suit me just fine and do not take away from the gameplay expirience nor add so much extra cost either.

As far as game design advancement goes this is up to the imagination of the game developers to fufill the capabilities of the hardware. The potential for expanding the multiplayer expirience is one element that is open for inovation. Like the DS, the PSP has built-in wireless but unlike the DS it can go online through any open hotspot. New content can also be distributed this way. For console/portable gaming, this is new territory and ripe for picking.

Another avenue for innovation has already been cracked open by nintendo- Conectivity. The rumor mill is already abuzz that the PS3 and PSP will be able to link up in various ways, much like some Gamecube games support using the GBA to enhance the game expirience. It is not a stretch of the imagination that even the PS2 and PSP could link up. In fact, I already have software that allows me to hook my PSP via USB to the PS2 to back up saved games from my PS2 memory card. How game developers take advantage of this type of feature is what makes it or breaks it.

I'm happy just being able to play some high quality and favorite games where ever I go and only lug around 10-12oz in a small beltpack. So when I a non-game feature or a new one is added, it's icing on the cake until the next great game is released.

Funny thing is, I found myself playing our old GBASP today. That new Zelda- Minish Cap GBA game is great fun and fun is what its all about!

hmm personally i cant see whats the big deal about psp, i mean i already play alot of games and watch movies at home. they want me to do it out of the house too? the screen isnt that great for dvds not sure about sound but im guessing it cant be as great as an actual mp3, and as for the games. its pretty much ps classics, i think the gaming companies are just trying to turn us into addicts inside and outside the house, now thats just pushing it abit too far eh?
