I was listening to the radio news the other day and heard that a new technology is coming out for cell phone users, to make their cell phones into virtual girlfriends...and boyfriends (will become available at a later date they say...)

They said that it gives you virtual kisses, talks to you, expects you to converse likewise, and you can even by roses and stuff. What's worse...after marriage you may get the surprise of the dreaded mother-in-law visit, calling on you to make sure you are treating her daughter good.

I do not have a link, because I have not seen any other news on it. I don't think is currently in the US...but on its way from another country that already has it going.

What a world we live in, eh?

Anyone remember the old movie Cheri 2000? That is what the world will soon be like.

Technology is really beginning to gain a little bit too much power.

Sheesh sounds almost like a Neopet ROTFL. I'm sure the phone companies will love hooking idiots to spend more time on the phone. Not sure how many would actually want a fake girlfriend who lives in their cellphone LOL, but then again, who knows!

Jorath Calar 03-17-2005 04:39 PM

If anyone ever sees me with something like that... shoot me... immedeatly...

Ditto. I would have fallen too far to be intelligent enough to do it myself.

Seriously, though, this is pathetic and scary. And sad. Who would want to spend money on a fake girlfriend? People who do it would become demented and twisted, and may even start believing that the "girl" (or "boy") is a real person. If this catches on, it means a grim future for humanity. No, I am not joking.

Probabaly the same people who bought tamagotchi's, octopet's, virtual pets and so on, basically for entertainment.

I was watching a program last night on Dutch tv, and there were two boys who would spend (on average) 6 hours per day behind their computers playing games. They didn't play sports, one of the boys refused to eat anything else than baked potatoes and one type of meat (think hamburgers). Supposedly he didn't "like anything else". Yeah right.
By swapping the moms from two families the behaviour of both boys had to change a little, but I was astonished by how they lived their life. Even more so because I reckognized a little of myself in the two of them. Their addiction to the computer was something I could relate to, and although I did go outside to play, their behaviour was frighteningly close. Too close.

I can't believe how much I've changed since. I sincerely hope I don't behave like those two boys do anymore.

I saw a link about this in Japan... Surprised to find that THIS is jumping the Pacific, when such a wonderful as the "Breast-enlarging ring tone" hasn't yet

But yeah... Its true :D

Downunda 03-18-2005 10:48 PM

Need to know a few things before I lay my money down...

Does this mean I have to get rid of my plastic blow up girlfriend? I mean would they get jealous of each other?
How well does she/it cook, clean and iron?
Does she/it get cranky once a month?
How expensive is she/it? Does she require a new faceplate every other week just so she can keep with the latest trend?

Dependant on the answers this could be just the type of girl I've been looking for
oh, so upwards of 6 hours is bad?
I mean I do go out, and I have friends etc (haha i hope), but i spend large ammounts of time in front of a screen a day, 4 ~ 8 hours daily is common. Having a laptop is bad too as, sometimes I sit outside and game. I don't play any sport, sport doesn't intrest me. Actually sport... ok i might start a new thread because that's too off the subject. Oh and also, msn messenger is great, i've kept in contact with so many people through it, and made friends, most of my contacts are people i've met in real life however and continue to talk to online, so i do believe it is good.
but my point was, is sitting in front of a computer for so long really so bad?

ohh and phones suck as is, constant radio transmitters we carry near our genitals, and hold to the side of out brain, they interupt radio when i'm trying to listen, they ring in movies and classes, they are now indespensible in modern life, (haha i made a list of people who asked me to get a mobile and it reached 23), and people feel popular by owning one, i just bought one myself and i hate it, but i don't leave the house without it.
And now this?
don't people see this is not human contact? sure tamagochies (sp?) were cute, i owned one even, but all this simulated human contact is s***, it sends confusing messages especially to kids.

i don't particularly mind what you use it for, (i don't want to hear them beeping however) but this shouldn't be given to kids, it's not healthy, mobiles used to be business tools, young kids i see with them now don't need them, and this virtual girlfriend is going to entice kids, and waste more of adult's time.

I wonder if my wife would get jealous of my phone... is that cheating? ;)

Cherry 2000 was a cool movie.
