He was knighted alright, but he's definitely not Sir Bill, he's not British, so the "Sir" part is off limits for him.

I was about to post the same thing when I saw you'd done it. :D In our news they noted that he can add some alphabet soup type thing to the end of his name to indicate he has been knighted but he cannot be 'Sir' since he's not British.
