Sir Degrader 02-23-2005 07:38 PM

It seems to me that I am the only person to use it on a regular basis. Do IWers use it, or am I the only one following in Apollo Creed's footsteps?

Hivetyrant 02-23-2005 07:41 PM

Only a chump would use that word :D

Nah, I have never used that word in life, dont know why, just sounds stupid

Lauren 02-23-2005 07:59 PM

I don't use the word Chump, but I do use Chum on when I refer to a particular friend.

Sir Degrader 02-23-2005 08:00 PM

Actually it sounds pretty good for example: Some chump bumped into me pretty hard, then swore under his breath about how the f--- could i be so ----ing stupid. I turned around, and said "Wanna say that to my face, chump?". He turned bright red, and walked away, while I, walked away with some face (it didn't hurt that I happened to be pissed off and was in a boxing style position when I said that).

Vaskez 02-23-2005 08:27 PM

Nah, never used that word, cos it makes you sound h to the izzo ;) I'd say fool (jokingly) or idiot or donkey :D or dumbass.

Yeah, this is what I would say:
"Some dumbass bumped into me pretty hard"

It's a fun word. Not an everyday word, but it's a good one. Situational insult, if you will. ;)

It's not the worst thing you could say to somebody, but it gets the point across.

Felix The Assassin 02-23-2005 09:18 PM

Nah, I'd say some vaskex bumped into me.

Really thou, chump has no appeal. I use either flat out jack arse, or dumb arse. But chump is too much for my 7th grader to use.

On the other hand, if the bumping vaskez is bigger, then of course it was your fault. But as large as we are, then any sub 300lb, 6'5" ft'r is still a jack!

Sir Degrader 02-23-2005 09:26 PM

Well, the thing with arse is that most people here don't seem to know it, or they think its "ass", and they tend to get more "shocked and offended". Chump has more of an "insult" quality, more then simply swearing at the guy. To each his own.

Using my username as an insult? Woah thanks, I have more "fans" here than I realised! :D And are you talking about youself in plural? Are you saying you're 300lbs 6'5" of lardarsedness? :D Cos this Vaskez is "only" 200lbs and 6'3"!

Callum 02-24-2005 07:40 AM

Pfft... lightweight...

I don't use chump... Idiot, dickhead, dumbass... etc...

Sir Degrader: Isn't 'arse' the same as 'ass'?

Vaskez 02-24-2005 07:53 AM

Yeah but not many people get over 200lbs without a lot of flab being calculated into it

Arse is like the british version of ass, yeah the difference being that in england ass is a donkey whereas arse is only used to talk about someone's backside :D

Callum 02-24-2005 07:59 AM

S'what I thought... so why Sir D's comment? WHy does it matter if people think you mean what you do mean if you are trying to mean what you mean and they think you mean?

Vaskez 02-24-2005 08:02 AM

He's just saying that either people DON'T know that arse is ass, or that they DO know and that's why they're shocked cos ass is supposed to be insulting in america, from the sounds of it. In informal circles ass in britain is basically just humour, cos so many people have begun using it in the last 10 years after seeing american shows etc. It's not really insulting.

Callum 02-24-2005 08:16 AM

Ah right... Makes sense now

Either people DON't know that arse is ass, or they DO know.

Thanks for clearing that up

(I really do get it now )

Vaskez 02-24-2005 08:26 AM

You're remarkably quick on the uptake :D

Davros 02-24-2005 09:23 AM

Isn't a chump just a smeghead by another name? ;)

Skippy1 02-24-2005 12:03 PM

Well it could be said that the England Rugby team are 'World Chumps', as they won the world cup in 2003 and then have lost 8 of the last 12 games they've played since. :)))

Attalus 02-24-2005 01:42 PM

It's kinda a 1920's or 30's word. It started out British, as in "You're off your chump," as a synonym of head. Then its meaning changed slightly to mean "Stupid person."

Larry_OHF 02-24-2005 02:39 PM

<font color=skyblue>"Chump" is not a word that is heard much in North Carolina...but I have heard it before on TV a time or two, and know its meaning. </font>

Kakero 02-24-2005 06:13 PM

I used that word sometimes, nobody knows what it is anyway.

Felix The Assassin 02-24-2005 10:03 PM

Since this is a family forum, I uesd arse in lieu of ass! As in Jack Arse! vs Jack Ass!

Uncle Vaskie, we have known each other for awhile, just at times you are not (or was not) always on!

Naw, I'm a lean 6'1, 235lbs that used to jump from perfectly good airplanes while in flight! Now I just "Jump" and run to the table when the household 6 element hollers dinner's ready!

shadowhound 02-24-2005 11:59 PM

I use so many different insulting terms that it is surprising that "chump" is not one of them :D
