the previous thread is here:

Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

Edit: First post. Woo. Not done that in a while. :D

Anyway, how are all you guys? It's been a while since I last stopped by in the cafe. Not that I've been up to much, just working and stuff. Although, today is my seven month aniversary with the gf... , but hey. What've the rest of you been up to?

 PLEASE NOTE

This is a modified reminder that I've posted before in reply to someone asking "can we spam the cafe". It still holds true, so I'm going to repeat it periodically for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Read the first post of the thread, it's NOT a spam zone. If you want to discuss you grades, a problem with a teacher, the weather, your neighbor's new car etc.....etc.. (real life conversations) this is the place. I don't mind a SMALL amount of spam but when the Cafe gets to be 8 pages in one day and it's all one liner pure spam, I have to ask people not to do it because most of the members who would come to talk about their day or things that they want advice or sympathy or cheers on, will not post in that atmosphere. I want you to be comfy here, but not at the expense of other members.

So the answer is NO, I don't want to see page after page of roleplay spam or one liner spamfests that could be done on msn or aim etc. because our goal is to TALK WITH one another , not fill up a cafe in five hours. ;)

Gangrell 02-20-2005 07:12 PM

Not much Calaethis, just about to have my one month anniversary with my girlfriend tomorrow. Should be a good day I think, just went to see Constatine today, good movie, although they could've picked other actors for the roles.

Cloudbringer 02-20-2005 07:19 PM

Aww, happy one month anniversary, Gangrell.

My day's been fairly busy and I didn't get to watch a movie. Was thinking of renting one on the cable. Been busy but all in all a very nice day! Now if only the weather would cooperate. I heard we may get snow tomorrow.

Calaethis Dragonsbane 02-20-2005 07:21 PM

I've not seen Constantine - is it any good? I mean, I know you said "good movie", but is it worth going out to see? From the previews... it didn't look all that great to be honest. It looked very... typical heaven/hell/one man saves the world kinda thing. And congrats on your one month . Heh -- I rang the girlfriend - who is currently in Canada from 7:45 until 11:20... it is going to be one heck of a phone bill. Worth it though :D .

It also seems that I beat even Cloudy to "first post". Nyah

Gangrell 02-20-2005 07:30 PM

Well, I am a philosophical sort so I enjoyed the plot of the movie, plus the special effects were pretty good. But yeah, it's worth going to see, don't pay attention to the critics, their reasons for not seeing it were a bit crap.

Jorath Calar 02-20-2005 07:33 PM

Heh it's midnight here, I just got home from work, there is a thick fog outside, I mean I can hardly see the houses across the street, but otherwiese the weather is awesome completly still, perfect weather for lovers to take a walk in... if only I had one...

I never do :D . I don't even bother to read their reviews - most of what they say is crap anyway :D  Hmm, maybe I will go to see it after all.

Ladyzekke 02-20-2005 07:40 PM

We might get some snow tonight, but it's 39F so I'm skeptical. I am pretty much tired of cold and snow now LOL, look forward to spring soon!

Been Dungeon Siegin it again tonight. Ran into another new monster I haven't seen before, a Lava Beast. LOL it reminds me of a firey version of the rock monster in The Neverending Story:

http://img.ranchoweb.com/images/lady...slavabeast.gif

And yes, I posted this in the other Cafe too, cause I didn't realize a new one had been made, doh! This is the second time I've done this now, I must be losing it I guess. :D

Sorry, groundhog says another two months of winter :D

Jorath Calar 02-20-2005 08:14 PM

Holy hell, that game looks cool Zekke... is it any good?

(By that I mean how it compares to BG of course )

Ladyzekke 02-20-2005 08:14 PM

Oh forget the stupid groundhog LOL. Most things make a shadow even if the sun isn't out, the whole groundhog thing is preposterous, and they take some poor hibernating groundhog out of his warm den to lift it up to a cheering crowd (you know they shoot it with darts to tranquilize it, or it's fake and a tame ground hog or something LOL). Ridiculous LOL.

Spring is coming soon dammit! :D Nah.Nah.Nah.Nah!

It does not compare to BG Jorath. The story is very small and undetailed, and you spend most of your time fighting. There is not much of going into towns and talking to people and getting stories and tons of side quests, etc. You do get a few sidequests in towns, but mostly towns are for just getting supplies and getting a short quip from someone on what to do next.

But the game is graphically really cool. And you get to have a large party which I always have liked in a game. Thing is, see I'm trying to finish my old single player Dungeon Siege game right now. I have bought DS again, with the add-on. Seems you can't find Dungeon Siege, the original version, easily anymore, what is in stores now is the box with DS with add-on included and that's it, and I peeked in the box (of the one with the addon) and saw three disks, "disk 1" "disk 2" "disk 3", i.e., no particular "add on disk." So I want to finish my game so I can take it off and load the other with the add on and see how it goes in a multigame, as I do no think I can keep my original one on my PC along with the other. So if you want to get the game and try it, then the one with the add-on is what you want. I have no idea what the add on does, or what it adds, will find out. I imagine though that the basics are the same as in the original.

And supposedly there is going to be a Dungeon Siege 2, but not sure when that will ever come out LOL. So all in all I like the game, but some do not because they feel it is too Diablo-like re all the fighting. Thing is it IS like Baldurs in that you can pause, pick spells, etc., and then continue. I'm really terrible at explaining things LOL, hope you get the gist at least of what I'm saying.

Jorath Calar 02-20-2005 08:34 PM

yeps... you are bettter than you think...

I remember this game now, I thought it was new, but I thnk I had the demo for it about 2 years ago or so... had completly forgot it...

Gangrell 02-20-2005 08:42 PM

Dungeon Siege Z? I remember playing that on my uncle's computer, didn't like it too much, the beginning of it already threw me off from the rest.

Sorry, groundhog says another two months of winter :D
Well, the Texas groundhog didn't se that. :D It's 78 degrees F. outside and a real, springlike feel. We went on a walk this afternoon, and I wore a t-shirt and shorts.

Ladyzekke 02-20-2005 09:06 PM

Oh it's not a new game at all Jorath. I'm trying to play games that I never finished but are still on my PC now. Our BG multigame interrupted a lot of that, although that is a flimsy excuse LOL. So yeah I want to conquer this game, including the add-on in a multi with friends. I have so many games I haven't played yet, still unopened in their boxes LOL, I'm sad. But yeah you should be able to get Dungeon Siege at a pretty decent price by now.

Gangrell, the game changes though as you go through it, so you cannot take what you see and do in the beginning as a precursor to what you will do and see in the rest of the game. There is the Goblin City chapter which is a biotch, I think it was harder than even later chapters LOL. And the weapons used against youare so different in that no bows or swords or spells, but machines with fire torches and timed bombs LOL. Then you get to other areas later with different creatures and different scenery. I dunno I'm enjoying it. I've got tons of screen shots of this game I haven't even posted here, just cause this game really gives me so many good shots with the ability to zoom in and swivel.

I guess we are all different re what we like in a game, and I can understand those that do not like DS, I just don't feel the same way. I really do appreciate it when a game has nice graphics, and if I can zoom in I always check everything out up close. Heck even Planescape Torment, an "old" game now, had some great graphics, and the spells were awesome to watch. Each game has it's own things to offer, depending on what you like I reckon, and I just am having fun playing DS right now. Oh I love Sacred too, that will be my next single player game to finish once I'm done with my SP Dungeon Siege, gotta patch that biotch up I'm sure, but that game also rocks. :D

johnny 02-20-2005 09:12 PM

I paid 5€ for it Jorath, found it in the bargainbins.

Cloudbringer 02-20-2005 11:53 PM

Ooops! I posted this in the old Cafe!

If I keep seeing all those beasties in DS, I may not get through my single game might be laughing too hard!...nipple rings and lava.... what a collection! LOL!

Ladyzekke 02-21-2005 12:49 AM

All the more fun for us to all multiplay it, we'll get a lot of laughs, just like in our BGII/TOB game!

Well no snow yet, just like I figured, the weathermen dropped the ball yet again (surprise!)

Ack the barometric pressure must be really moving, I've had one of my hideous headaches on and off all weekend. I kinda feel it coming back now ugg. Was in tears Saturday morning it was so bad, so F it, I'm taking a Percocet now, before I hit the hay, just better to be safe than sorry kinda thing. Hate taking pills though, for me it's kinda like exchanging discomforts, i.e., the pill may take my headache away, but make me feel woozy and dizzy and nauseaus. Such fun!

Hope yall had a nice weekend. At least I have tomorrow off cause of the Presidents Day holiday. I love Monday holidays, cause I hate Mondays LOL. S

Callum 02-21-2005 04:39 AM

I really liked DS... But I finished it (a rarity in itself) ages ago. I've even had time to lose the CD completely since then

I was never much good at plot intrigue and puzzles and things anyway.

Cloudbringer 02-21-2005 10:04 AM

I like DS so far although it does seem to be heavy on the monster killing. Still, as LZ said, the graphics are really gorgeous and I'm getting the hang of the interface ok.

I like games with more story most of the time but every now and then a good hack 'n slash is worth the time.

Hope your headache is gone, LZ!

Callum have you played Lionheart? I've started it but never got too far into it. The puzzles in the beginning aren't too bad so I hope it stays about that level.

No snowmen, snowballs Much for fun. Can't beat creeping up behind one of your mates and shoving snow down there back, LOL.

I hope Newcastle don't win anything. Middlesbrough and Newcastle are rivals, so if they don't get into Europe we can laugh at our Biology teacher, he is a Newcastle fan

Today school was, well, mental. Snow flying everywhere, the headteacher equipped with wellies and a megaphone shouting stuff like "The ugly boy over there, put that snowball down"
Only got hit maybe 60, 70 times, haha. Still a good day though.

johnny 02-21-2005 02:47 PM

Kluivert scored ? What happened...was the entire Chelsea defense still in the locker room ?

Sir Goulum 02-21-2005 03:32 PM

Good Afternoon everyone! Wish me luck... I'm attempting to make some cookies. If I'm still here later today I didn't burn the house down.

SomeGuy 02-21-2005 07:53 PM

Share your cookies with me or I'll burn it down myself!

Sir Goulum 02-21-2005 08:25 PM

*Tosses SomeGuy a cookie*

My mother saved them from being burnt just in time. ;)

Is it just me, or has been no real good movies this year? I think I've gone to the theater to see one on the big screen only once or twice this whole year.

Attalus 02-21-2005 08:31 PM

I liked "The Aviator" and Galadria liked "The Phantom of the Opera," The Aviator," and "Ray."

Sir Goulum 02-21-2005 08:34 PM

Those were all fine, IMO, but to me there weren't any standout movies. But maybe I'm just used to movies of LotR's standards.

Tasslehoff Burrfoot 02-21-2005 08:39 PM

ya LotRs took everyone by storm i mean if u didnt like that movie u crazy.

Ladyzekke 02-21-2005 09:32 PM

Well it's done, I've finished my SP Dungeon Seige game! Cool. Now I can delete it and put on the one with the add-on for our multigame.

One more screenshot

http://img.ranchoweb.com/images/ladyzekke/dsending.gif

Is the ending guy in the original SP game, although when you kill him he comes right back as something stronger doh! And he summons tons of stuff too, was a biotch, and I went into it not knowing he was the ending guy LOL, although I did get a feeling when I went down this hallway and it autosaved LOL. :D

Cloudbringer 02-21-2005 10:41 PM

Whoa! You finished! Congrats, LZ!

Phantom of the Opera looks good, at least from the promotions I've seen. Maybe I'll see it when we can rent it. Just haven't had a lot of time for going out to the movies lately.

Bungleau 02-21-2005 10:44 PM

Are those nipple rings he's wearing, LZ? :D Glad you were able to put it to bed, so to speak.

On the other topic, I don't see many movies, but I saw Million Dollar Baby a couple of weeks ago. It is one of the best movies I've ever seen, and while I don't know that I've ever seen a movie that I thought should win an Oscar or seven, that one should.

No more from me on it because of spoiler potential, but I really enjoyed it and would pay to see it again.

Kakero 02-22-2005 04:10 AM

Good evening all! I just woke up from my after noon nap. Play a bit of raganrok Online and now my Wizard is level 80/49 already. yay! :D

There was The Lord of the Rings, just mentioned. The only movie fit to be mentioned in the same breath as Casablanca.

Cloudbringer 02-22-2005 10:08 AM

Hey Sir Goulum, how'd the cookies come out?

I'm going to nap most of today...darned cold is hanging on! blah!

Skippy1 02-22-2005 10:48 AM

Giday Rainbabe! How have you been?

Bungleau 02-22-2005 11:07 AM

Morning, all! A glorious day here, with just enough snow to keep things looking pristine, but not enough to make travel lousy.

I've got to say... there are few things more enjoyable in life than reading an iPod post from an ignorant wannabe and seeing all the responses of pending doom for the unlucky first- (and last-) time poster Groj, your post was just wonderful... :D

What a pleasant way to start the morning... reading about the latest troll burnings. Now I've got to go find the other four boards he posted on, the little worm. BTW, if it was on the W&W board, it got blown away already :(

*edit* I found three of 'em... and the response was the same. One note /suggestion to our moderatorial friends... perhaps one of you might remove the link he has in his posts? It appears to still be active and valid, and I'd really hate for him to have *any* kind of success in this endeavour...
