One day I was at my friends house. I pressed open the button to open the PS2 tray. I placed Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater disc in the tray and gave a slight push on the tray. And it slid back into place. My friend is like "WTF are you doing!?!? You are supposed to press the BUTTON!"
So yeah do you push the tray or do you hit the button for it to slide back in. As you can see I am a pusher.*shoves* :D |
I'm a pusher, and I have had no negative sideeffects from pushing it in... But you have to remember one thing: only push for about 5 milimeters, no more.
|
I used to use the button on all CD drives as I was constanly hearing about broken drives because of puching, but these days, they are designed to allow a bit of a puch becasuse it happens all the time, and im just lazy :D
|
Tap. Tap all the way.
|
press..button/...
i've messed up my cd drive by "pushing" i stopped doing that now..i press the damn button... |
I reckon they're all designed to be pushed in. My dad has a CD player which only has an open button, so the only way you CAN close it is to push the tray. I admit I normally press the button cos if you push to far, you can damage the motor, but as stated they can all be pushed a little way.
|
Normaly I push, but on my own, non-cheap drives that I have to replace if I break em, I hit the button.
|
I've generally pushed the tray in manually most of the time. Even more so on this new computer - when the tray ejects, the flap covers the button so its a right kefuffle to try and push it again. Plus, the CPU is below me, to the left of my chair, not on the desk, so it takes extra effort to press the button.
|
I push, but that's because it would take far too much effort to close it otherwise.
|
If only they put the button on the left side! because the computer is on my right side the tray blocks the button so I am a unhappy shover
My kids are under strict instructions to ONLY use the button, do as I say not as I do |
I hit the button all the time. Otherwise, you're trying to jumpstart the drive to convince it to close... and sooner or later in my mind, pushing the tray will cause a problem.
'Course, I could be wrong about that... :D |
Cause a problem? How so?
|
Press the button, there was once I just angrily shove the cd tray back and well you can guess what happen.
|
I push the button most of the time on the computer. With my stereo I tap. :D
|
It's easier to push then it is to reach down and hit the button. (CPU is to my right, on the floor, and button is also on the right). Much easier to push. Insist that anyone else who uses it taps the button though . My computer, if I break it, I pay for it - if THEY break it - well, they pay hell :D
|
Use the bloody button!
|
I always use the button. It makes me so paranoid whenever I have to push the tray, because I once pushed a DVD tray too far and it got stuck. Also, I've had countless VHR tapes get stuck from doing that same motion. Button all the way.

Yes, the CPU is on the floor, as is the motherboard - the entire tower is on the floor. |

eject -t is such a useful command... |
Neither, i squeeze. :D
|
I don't want to know...
I tap... the computer is above me, so its easier anyway... |

I just use the eject button on my keyboard. It will either open or close, depending on what the last command was.
KeyBoard |
I push, as my laptop does that thing where it only comes out half way, and clicks. Then you have to pull it all the way out to put the disk in.
On PS2 and Xbox I push as well. |
Um. Is anyone else seeing no poster name or avatar for the post below Wellard's original post? I get a blank profile too...
Anyway. I push it in. Like Wellard (and the poster who does not exist  ) the button is on the right side and our tower is also on my far right side so it's too inconvenient to reach when the tray is out. |
I see nothing as well Aelia... that's sorta wierd... forum glitch maybe?
I think the only thing I tap is my Xbox. It sounds terrible if I push it. |
Thread fixed!
BTW, I Push. [ 02-22-2005, 12:14 PM: Message edited by: Ziroc ] |
I oush the darw. Always. Although taht could have been why my first CD drive burnt out...
|
Ever taken a CD rom drive appart?
*watches reaction* Well the motor is generaly not connected directly to the tray these days, they used to be connected by a gearing system, nowadays they are connected by a rubber belt.. So older drives suffer from pushing and pulling (come on, admit we've all pulled somtimes).. Newer drives don't suffer as much, there's still risk but it's reduced.. I put my finger though the CD's center hole and push the button, not only does it save my motor it also keeps me on my toes.. ;) |
I use the button on my PS2 and I push in the tray on the comp

You can press the button to make it go in too?
I guess I am a pusher. :D |

Whatever I can get away with... :D ;)

I just had to open this thread purely because of the title... i was like "wtf could this be about?"
I push. Too lazy to do otherwise. |
I push on this computer, however all other computers I tap the button. I think this one just has my hand moulded to the front of it :D
|
I'm a big pusher of everything other than my CD player... It's got one of those triple-disk trays and when it slides out it's a bit dodgy, like it's slightly too heavy to be hanging out that far. Sometimes I have to support it from underneath when I put a CD on it, just in case it snaps. So I use the button for that.
