well, im not quite sure this is true, but it seems atari acknowledged teh development of a bg3 and nwn2
http://www.homelanfed.com/index.php?id=24824 im definately going to cehck out that magazine and of course, we will know if its true. |
I hope they don't compare games that seem similar. For example NWN2 is the Witchers (which looks great hope it'll be great as well) cause it's made with the aurora toolset. BG is a finished story. No matter how you look at it, if they decide there would be a BG3 you still can't call it BG3 cause it should IMO be a sequel to 1 and 2.
And because bioware won't make those games I don't know what to think of it. More like trying to fly on Bioware's success and they have to do a hell of a lot to meet expectations |
and no more black isle as well....T_T
|
All coming BG series don't have to relate to the original 2...
|
I just want the Sword Coast back! PLEEEEEEASE!
|
Actually, some newer part of Faurun would be cooler. Like, Waterdeep! :D
|
Yeah, I heard about this...it's a shame about NWN 2 really, cos I want a direct sequel to that. Of course, if the games turn out pretty good, I won't be complaining.
To be honest, NWN isn't actually a bad game. I used to slate it quite a lot, but since I've completed it, I've looked at it in a nicer light. Of course, it doesn't compare to Baldur's Gate, but the voice acting definitely isn't bad, and the characters, even the henchmen, are fleshed out even a little. Plus the graphics are pretty cool, even if the dragons are nowhere near the size they should be. :D |
Fallout 3, Baldur's Gate 3, Neverwinter Nights 2 and D&D Online!
*falls unconcious with an ear-to-ear grin* Yeah, some new scenery might be nice. Like the aforementioned Waterdeep or Dragon Coast or something else new and exciting. But I'llbe more than happy if we stay in Amn/Neverwinter. |

somebody has to recommend IW as a source for great ideas for the games, it seems to be welling with ideas
|
Or Thay, or Cormyr, or Chessenta!! :D
|
Or Sembia, or how about going really exotic and set it in Chult? Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing a game set in the Greyhawk setting, in the city of Greyhawk itself.
|
I would love to see a new game in the dragonlance setting!
|
Sembia would be nice, Dalelands, Thay and Rashamen (meet Minsc's little brother :D ).
Just hope Atari doesn't screw it up somehow. |

In any case, if they ever decided to bring one or both games out, don't expect to see them before 2006-7. |
If a game is going to be called "Baldur's Gate III, and it doesn't involve Baalspawn, then by golly, shouldn't it at least feature Baldur's Gate?
What I'd really like would be for the game to feature all of the Sword Coast, plus Amn (including Athkatla) and Neverwinter and...the list goes on and on...I would like something as huge as, say, Morrowind (and yes, BG1 technically was bigger in land area, but it wasn't continuous, was it?) |
How about Calimshan? Heck, I'd buy anything with a "Baldur's Gate" on it. Just stay out of Icewind Dale!
|
Lol what about the whole Fearun:p...
|
Hi folks!,
new to the forum but.... I would like a new RPG to be set in the Desert regions (Calimshan? and ?) I'm sick of snow (IWD1 and 2) still like temperate regions (the Sword Coast) but want to try something new. what about starting on a differnet plane of existence ala the inner sphere demon land in BG2 or Haer'dalis home world? Napalm |
I'm with Memsie, let's head to Marsember.

Let's pretend for a second that walt disney won all the right to Lord of the Rings.
Then let's pretend that they made a Lord of the Ring 4. This movie would be about the adventure of a little kid and his monkey, as they try to find the neighboor's missing dog. That's about what I expect of BG3. Just like Lord of the Rings, the Bhaalspawn saga is over. There is nothing more to add. If Atari decide to create a BG3, it will only be to exploit the title. I will lose most of the respect I have left for them if they do. You know, the D&D name alone should guarantee success for a computer RPG. Why not create a new interesting saga, and they could even call it "Adventures in Waterdeep", or another such cheesy name, if they wanted. Personally, I think Dragonlance would be ideal for a story heavy rpg, someting like planescape. But I don't think Atari has the skill to make it. Forgotten Realm used to be the creator's pen and paper world, and it show. It's like tons of little regions added togheter for no real reason. That's why they remade that world in 3rd edition. It wasn't possible the way it was. Dragonlance has always been a more structured and realistic world. Forgotten Realms has all these big evil armies and countries, and there are nothing to stop them from taking over the world, or at least starting a massive war, but they don't. There's no way an evil group would just stand there for no reason if they had a chance at domination. Has there ever been a massive war in Forgotten Realm? Any real invasion? |

How about a new series at the city of Baldur's Gate? It wouldn't (necesarily) be an exploitation of a title. |
Just dump the poor 3d-graphics and return to the infinity engine, please! I want nothing more than a good old-fashioned epic infinity engine RPG of gargantuan size.
Awh, no use kidding yourself, there isn't ever gonna be another RPG the equal of Baldur's Gate. [ 02-20-2005, 04:34 AM: Message edited by: Rataxes ] |

I'd like to see more planescape. Made with infinity engine.
And a third BG would not need to be related to the first two. Think of the Final Fantasy series. |
Herm... Well, because I can't be bothered to read any of this, and because I need to get ready for the start of term, and because... I am lazy, I am just going to say something...
BG3 would not have to follow the same story line as BG2 and 1. Although I never played Icewind Dale 1, I do not know how it connects to IWD2. I never actually completed Throne of Bahl, or Bauldur's Gate 2 (TOB I got stuck at the last boss, and BG2 the computer threw a fit, went corrupted, got viruses and had to go and see the doctor, losing all the files). Erm... There could turn out to be something left over from the Bhaalspawn saga. Perhaps some more half-diety people, running around, or something... Bah. They should set the next game somewhere far south, not even nesceceraly (SP? Damn) on Faerun. They have done Spine of the World, Neverwinter, Bauldur's gate... So how about further south? It doesn't even have to be on the prime material plane. Could be a group of some plane-touched guys wondering around the Abyss, or just flitting from plane to plane. Perhaps cursed with something which keeps draging them from one plane to another... *Stops* Heeeeeeey... If I knew hot to play Pen+paper D&D, I could do that... Could I? Because I have no idea how to play Pen+paper D&D... Don't mind me. Brainstorming. Hit me with a <hr> next time, okay? |
well, whereever it is, I hope they go back to the BG1 type of areas. I loved how you could go through random wilderness and just go off to anywhere exploring. If they could make something that was just a huge chunk of forgotten realms that has tons of areas and explorable parts, that game would be awsome.
|
I wouldn't mind more wilderness areas. The closest BGII came to that was probably the Umar Hills, and that wasn't all that big.

But not so big that you have to be walking around for 10 minutes to find anything.
|
They made Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, and that didn't have anything to do with the Bhaalspawn Saga OR Baldur's Gate, the city. In fact, if you want to nitpick, BGII didn't have anything to do with the City of Baldur's Gate. I say, if they make a game based on AD&D, I will buy it. I understand that NWNII is going to come out next year, and I am quite sure that it won't have anything to do with Lady Aribeth.

There is no way Zenthil Keep and Cormir would have stared at each other for ages without trying to annihilate each other. Same thing for the Simbul's country and Thay. That's what always happen in Forgotten Realms, there are groups opposed to each others, they hate each others, but never act. They just sit there until some adventurer come along and fix the situation... for now... I bet once those orcs and trolls build their city they'll either sit there for eternity, or an adventurer will come along to fix the problem. Or maybe Mithril Hall will send it's small army against them, and with the help of adventurers they will succed to win the little skirmish. Of course the adventurers will really have done the heavy work and the army is just there for show really... In the end that skirmish will have no lasting effect on anything. What's point of countries building armies? They never get used... |

Icewind Dale 1 and 2 are losely related, they happen in the same areas, and the first one has story repercussion with the second one. Quote:
I didn't play Dark Alliance 1, but in DA2 they do end up in Baldur's Gate. I'm pretty sure they chose that title just to exploit the success of the crpg, by the way. NWN wasn't about Aribeth, it was about a band of heroes stoping a threat to the city of Neverwinter. I'll be pissed if the second one has nothing to do with the city. And Final Fantasy was different. The title meant nothing, and none of the first ones were related to each others. If the 4 first one had been a direct sequel of the one before it, and the 5th one was something unrelated, then I'd be complaining. It's not hard, as I said, just the fact that someting is based on D&D should guarantee success, no need to call it Baldur's Gate 3 if it's not BG3. Why do you think the real devs never wanted to make a BG3? Do you think Atari have any ethics? You all keep asking for BG3, you'll get "BG3", but I'll be there to tell you all "told you so" when it turn out it's just a marketting scam for an horrible game.
