Pretty much as the title states...
With the 80mph winds last night, the roof has started lifting off the house.... My bedroom is the worst affected, as its on the 3rd floor...but its not good! We've got cracks all over the celing of my room...luckily, its dropped back down, but if the wind keeps up it could go! Oh no! |
We've got high winds, but nothing like that. I've only recorded 43mph so far.
|
Mm, I did notice some strong winds last night. Our conseratory was rattling a bit and our trees were bending further than I think the laws of physics allow
|
Well, I didn't lose my roof, but I almost lost a good half of my paper round this morning. You never realise how embarrasing it is to run down a road jumping on newspapers to stop them flying away, until it happens. :D
|
Just went out and did a survey this AM. We lost a large branch from an old oak tree. The thing fell across one of my driveways. Guess I'll be out with a chain saw in a bit cutting the thing up.

The winds last night we're quite strong here as well (North East). A lot of fences around the area have been blown down, it actually snapped a 6" concrete post! A lot of tiles on the roofs have been blown off. I actually walked (as opposed to bike) my paper round this morning, and I still struggled in the winds. Folding the papers to fit them in the letter boxes was near impossible sometimes. |
Well I was drivin across the A66 last night, and the wind overturned HGV's.
I usually live in South Shields with my girlfriend, and the wind took out next doors greenhouse! |
Wow, is this normal for England? Do you guys get this type of weather a lot?? Hope you are all okay.
|
That's high speed dude. I wish you well and hope that everything will turn out normal.
|
Dang that blows!
Hope the wind dies down soon Lavi, at least you still have power. Around here with winds like that we'd all be sitting in the dark. |
Is there any chance that this wind is being caused by Parliament? Yata,yata...

Well, I'm in the North-West.
Acording to the weather forecasting over the last couple of days the high winds struck the north of England and Scotland. Infact, a warning was put out telling people to avoid driving due to the danger of falling trees etc. |
Dang that sucks!
We got snow, sleet and ice here in New England. A falling branch just missed me as I was de-icing the walkway earlier!!! |
There was also a bad storm in Sweden today. Three people died (when trees fell over their cars) and 280 000 people are without electricity.
There wasn't much here where I live, but I heard it blow past... It was a really strong wind, and the entrance door to the building started banging. Which is weird because it's always closed (and it's heavy), so it must've blown open... |
Ahwell, hardy Scotland didn't seem to get affected :D
|
The roof is lifting off your house? Then go to the basement!
|
Five people have died from the storm this far in Sweden. It seems it hit most of Northern Europe.
I've checked around my house, but no damages as far as I can see. |
Sorry, posted as my brother up there!

News this morning. Three reported deaths from strong wind.
|
It's global warming
unless we stop the contributing to the greenhouse effect things like this will keep happening. |
Global warming! i ahven't seen the sun in months!
Come to rainy cornwall. At least there's no wind. |
It's just a "normal" storm that comes every now and then.
|
it's been windy here for the past two years, more then average, that and Australia is in drought, and everything is just weird, and un-average.
You can't deny it's global warming. |
Sorry, Intrepid. You can't deny that it's windier than average and that Australia is in drought. That doesn't mean it's global warming, though. It may be, but it may just be natural occurences.
I mean, perhaps it's because there is so much more electricity used these days, thanks to all these computers, that the electric companies are now using more wind-sourced electricity (windmills, etc.), and they're creating greater breezes that are picking up steam as they cross the oceans and the deserts. If there's some proof or studies done that clearly identify the source of Australia's increased winds and drought, I'd like to read up on it, if you can provide links. Sheesh! This almost feels like a CE response! I'd better go get some caffeine this morning... |
Jees o, tis windier today! 90mph, and it's freezing! Howz it around the rest of the globe?
|
Here in Slovenia, the weather rocks. Last year in January there was lots of snow. This year... nothing. Zilch. Zero. It's 10-13 degrees here.

but anyway, windmills won't produce more wind, if anything they would reduce it (by an absoloutly tiny ammount). I'm just saying weather is getting worse, just keep an eye on it, you will notice a deffinate comparable difference to a few years ago, it's really different and unaverage and the reason i have for this is global warming. |
