What were the 80's for you, in terms of music, growing up and all that other stuff?
|
To me it was like the golden age, the best memories of my life are in the eighties. That goes for personal experiences, music, but most of all football.
|
I havn't lived the 80s but i know for sure that they had the BEST music! Well, the 70s are up there too...

The best things about the 80's was the diverse music selection. In the 80's we saw rock, acid rock, metal, thrash, pop, funk, junk, and a whole of one hit wonders. My school football team on which I was a part of, won the state championship. The first and only football state championship for the school. By the way - that is american football. I also graduated from high school, collage and had a daughter born. A pretty busy decade for me.

What a great decade, excellent variety of music, cool fashions, and I lost my virginity twice.
|
ah the 80's what a great time .... too bad i only remember part of them...was in a drunken coma alot of the time from 86 to 90. grat music, the fall of communism, the shuttle launches, the girls. the girls, the girls, the dinking, the girls////lol
|
only think I can say about the 80's is what were we thinking about when we put our hair up in those puffs?!?

Funny though, many people who were born before 1975 really liked the 80's and those born after 1975 seem to dislike it alot where I come from. I'm from 1981 and although I respect those years as a necessary step in evolution, I find them terrible :D

Born in '76, loved the 80's.
And of course: http://www.ericmcerlain.com/offwingo...s/tip1_672.jpg [ 01-08-2005, 01:44 PM: Message edited by: krunchyfrogg ] |
The only things I remember about the eighties is the rock music, the hilarious fashion and hairstyles and Depeche Mode.

80's = no freedom. study study study school school study study cocoriculum activities study study. BAH!

Tainted Love!

Realised that I was not the focal point of exsistence in the universe, that people you thought were laughing with you were laughing at you, and that if I simply kept my mouth shut no one could misinterpret what I said...
mind you I was only 11 when this happened. Other than that, wonderful decade to grow up in, My first favourite band was Duran Duran, best cartoons that will ever be made (GI JOE, Transformers, Heman, Thundercats, snorkels ). And some of the stupidest fashion crimes ever to be realesed on human kind... anyone remember the gloves with half the fingers cut away... was that cool or what?... No... |
I loved the 80's, the music, the culture, everything. Miss the long haired rock bands, now the rock bands are all shaved headed tattoed-up beer bellied unsexy guys LOL.
You know I saw a show on TV (VH1 I think) this weekend with Vince Neil from Motley Crue getting plastic surgery on his face, and a makeover too re his hair and body (dieting), etc. Ugg the plastic surgery footage was sickly LOL, nothing like seeing a face as a flap! I didn't see where it made much difference either re his looks, if anything it made him look "cheeky," that's the kicker. 1986, and i loved the 80's. I still love them. everything i hold dear came from then. Music, My girlfreind, etc. it was just a great decade to me.
p.s. i loved the thrash metal fashion (leather jackets rule!) |
Well I was born in 1984... So basically a lot of great things happened during that decade... and I have no idea what they were! Sad...
What the 1980's has done to you, the 1990's has done the same, but then I am seeing that 2000 onwards has been more of, fulfilling. We'll see as we all get older. :D |

One Word.....
Hair-Bands........ |
1984-The birth of the transformers. 'Course I wasn't born yet but it was an act that would be a constant theme throughout my entire life.
Zuvio, it may seem tempting but $178 is a bit steep for the Predacons. HasTak are really ripping people of with these reissues! I recommend picking them up individually off eBay. |

Seriously, the 80's were a mish-mosh of different sounds with radio and tv (MTV) trying to pick out the next "sound". What I remember from the 80's was the birth of MTV and when it actually had music videos (late 80's, with Headbangers' ball!!!!) instead of the reality CRAP that is the main theme of their programming now. The movies had some good (Breakfast Club and Lost Boys, for example), some bad; and hairbands with the guys who use aquanet or other hair spray  and when I talk about hairbands the one that comes to mind with the awesome first (and really only REAL) tape they had, Guns -n- Roses Appetite for destruction We have the 80's behind us, but some memories are very nice to bring out and dust them off for a minute. Yeah Predaking altogether has always been one of the more expensive auctions, the trick is to try and get him from his individual parts.
Though in terms of convinience I guess it's better forking out the dough for the reissue. :D |
Legwarmers BABY! Legwarmers!!!
FAME!! I'm gonna live forever!! Ick. |
Musically the 80's were the black hole of the 20th century. A whole endless list of 'rock'(which was more like pop than anything else) and pop consisting of playback and cliches and some of the simplest musical compositions EVER.
The hairdoes and fashion was abhorrent. It was the height of the 'divided' culture, with the jocks and nerds and richboys etc. Which was and is disgusting. Saved by the bell, eww. Looking back at the cartoons and kidstuff, only the dutch things were great like Villa Achterwerk and Rembo&Rembo. The rest was cheap crap. :( |
In Holland, legwarmers came back into fashion! I'm wearing pink ones right now :D

You know...I heard that they are making a comeback in the U.S. too. I will admit that I used to wear them...whew! I can't believe I just said that! I feel cleansed!

As an exception to the rule: I bet you looked great in them newb ;)

SilentThief </font>
Nothing wrong with me junior! My friends and I still joke about songs like that. They were pretty scary. Tainted Love by Soft Cell and Cars by Gary Newman. It was just bad synth. stuff, we just didn't know it at the time. |

I will agree about the fashions, however... :D Seemed cool at the time, but some of that stuff I would not wear again (Members Only jackets, parachute pants, etc.). I was born in 1970, so I went through my teens in the 80s. I remember the first day MTV came on the air (younger people tuned in to see videos in general, but older people tuned in to see the Thriller video from Michael Jackson). Went to high school 1984 - 1988, and started college right after. So those are times that I look back at with great pleasure (quite a bit of it is hazy, however; I drank a LOT in the 1980s). |
The 80's ruled! :D
Reaganism! Hair Bands! Mullets! MTV! What more can I say? |

Born 1983, didn't become socially aware until 1993 but was too young to really take part in anything until 1995, and by then everything that was going on was nothing I wanted part of (namely boy bands and an endless stream of britney spears wannabes).
All I remember about the 80's are the awesome cartoons, swatch watches, big hair (or as my sister called it the b**** flip), and neon markers. my greatest regret: being too young to fully enjoy the grunge movement of the early 90's. [ 01-08-2005, 08:59 PM: Message edited by: spydar ] |

I was born in '87, so I remember pretty much nothing from the eighties, but I know a lot about it because I watch Vh1 and my uncle. He still has a lot of recorded episodes from Headbanger's Ball. Compared to today, the 80's was the golden age of music, a lot of awesome songs, better than what they have out today. Too bad it died out when the early 90's came around. Quote:

Oh, there were some really bad pop songs in the 80s, too. Remember, on those shows they list out the highlights (either the really good or the really bad). As a precursor to the 90s boy bands, try New Edition or Color Me Badd. :D
Politically, we were just coming out of the escapist 70s/Disco (escaping from Vietnam) and here comes Reagan selling hope for the future (well, the illusion at least). As a result, we had Reaganomics (i.e. Trickle down economics, or as Bill Maher stated, "they are p**sing on you"), Iran-Contra, the Evil Empire (and the collapse of the Soviet Union and the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, easily one of the more memorable things that has happened in my life), and the whole "Ronbo" portrayal. Heck, look at the movies. Predator, Rambo, etc. The 80s were also the heydey of the pure action movie. Arnold was absolutely huge in the 80s. |
The 80's .. The Final Countdown ... Shoot me.
