To all the good people out there,
Yo man, I've got a massive problemo. After a days battle (real time) I'm still unable to murder, evaporate, kill, get rid of Firkraag. All I succeded so far was a Bareley injured state, which of course is...
I'm hitting him with magic missiles,+2,3 weapons and nothing.
Anyone has any(and I mean any) idea what to do?His Red Dragon breath(a 50+ damage)just drives me crazy.
I'd be graetfull for any help.
Thanks...

if you have a cleric in the group like viconia i would suggest summoning aerial servant, i found them quite helpful

Hecate 08-27-2002 04:05 PM

Did you pick up any 'dragon killing' weapons during your travels in his dungeon? If you did, your tanks such as Minsc, Keldorn or Korgan would be able to damage him. Also, you could try throwing summoned creatures at him so he wastes up some of his spells. Tell you right now that Skeltons are pretty useless in this battle.

Get his magic resistance down.
Then Greater Malison, Doom, Chromatic Orb.
I killed the Shadow Dragon with it. It should work here, too.

First of all it is a good idea to wait untill Ur party is lvled up to a descent lvl before engaging the big olŽred one...

A little tactic around Firekrag...

1. Summons...lots of them to absorb the higher spells, wingbuffet and dragonbreath!
2. never place all members of Ur party in the same spot...spread out...generally I tend to surround the dragon!
3. The spell Lower resistance is good (U could cheese it by using the priest spell magic resistance...it actually lowers it more)
4. fire res. potions and equipment (dragonslayer longsword, red dragon helm etc will boost U against Firekrag...at max resistance 127 % U heal when struck by fire)
5. Remember NO fire will hurt Firekrag...but Acid, ice and the like are good
6. Haste, protect and strenghten partymembers and beat the sucker into a pulp
------------------------------In the end he always goes down.
A good thing though is to lower his magic resistance and then hammer him with spells while Ur fighters and summons take him on...

A good place to look it up is Dundee Slayterns tactics on dragons but I donŽ+t have the link...with a little luck heŽll read this post and drop it for U

Spawkie

Good luck...heŽs a tough one the first couple of times:D

You could always lower his saving throws and then cast multiple finger of deaths, or if you're playin a monk quiver palm the beastie, and as soon as you see its breath coming run away, and keep your casters at a safe distance, and i think wands of cloudkill also work, but be sure to use multiple charges as he heals quite often, incase you'd like to use the wand of cloudkill tactic just stay out of its LOS for ever, since cloudkill has a area wide effect, cast it somewhere near the red dragon, that'll surely help ;)

The hardest fight I had with him, was with my solo assassin, now that was a battle

There is a (somewhat) unfair way to lower the dragon's HP dramatically. Get into Firkrag's room after dealing with the Mage in the prison above. When you get to the room, stay just out of Firkrag's range of sight (so he wont attack). Launch a cloudkill to the edge of the screen and watch the HP come down. After about 2 or 3 cloudkills, jump all over him using the suggestions above. BTW, if you use too many cloudkills, he'll just heal himself.

Again, it's a practical, if cheesy, way to kill him and move on.

The beast didnt cause me even a bit of trouble. You just get your cleric NEAR it, two spellcasters in his sight, cast Holy Might with cleric (boosts your THAC0), then Harm, cast lightning bolt (my joke, you can do without it, but for me it was more fun) on the dragon and then HIT it with harming hand of cleric. So he get LOTS of damage leaving him with pathetic 1 hp! Then a magic missile (or anything else you like) finishes him up!! He will not be able to reply because after going hostile he first casts stoneskin, then haste - that would give you plenty of time to NAIL it to the ground ;)

Also a bug, which is fixed in the Baldurdash fixpack...

I tried to kill the beast with the use of the tactics... Useless! It just heals itself, heals like mad! So the steps you'd like to take is lower its magic resistance and saving throws, and finger of death/death spell it. Alternative is harm, or simple and rather stupid engaging it in melee (very difficult way for me, although my berserker could slay ANY other beast in the game 1 on 1 without even enraging)

Legolas The Magnificent 08-28-2002 05:22 AM

try to stay out of his sight while you cast your spells such as incenarating cloud etc.

TaSSaDaR 08-28-2002 05:27 AM

Hey, those spells are a bit too high-level-ish... By the time I met the beast i couldn't even cast a disintegrate!! All I was limited to was 5th level cloudkill... But still worked PRETTY good harm tactics, which later on i also used on shadow one...

Aurum 08-29-2002 08:09 PM

Use creatures, eye wizard?, weapons dragonslayers, once, round-up him, attack per flamk, back, front, etc..

Malavon's Rage 08-29-2002 10:01 PM

or i could just suggest one word: SLAYER, sure its a cheap way to beat him but...wow is it effective

Tyranny]SiN[ 08-29-2002 11:32 PM

I just stood around him and summoned Skeleton Warriors, and Spiders. I used my Sorceror to lower his resistances and my Mage to feeblemind the bastid as well as constantly barrage him with ray of enfeeblement. My fighter qaulfed a few potions - Invulnerabilty, Storm giant strength, and Clarity and I pummeled him still he imploded.

TaSSaDaR 08-30-2002 01:15 AM

A tactics trued on a black dragon: You lower the resistance/throws, then just feeblemind him and go and kick the beast - it wont reply! It was a fun to see a big massive ugly powerful dragon stand and take damage without any actions etc :D

The important things to remember:
1) Protection from fire is very useful against that dragon breath...
2) Spread your characters out around the dragon to avoid his Wing Buffet.
3) Fire based spells are useless.
4) He casts haste and stoneskin early on. Thus, use haste yourself and breach to get past the stoneskin.
5) Summons can help, if you choose the right ones. Fire Elementals are effective, because they resist his dragon breath.
6) Firkraag has high magic resistance. Lower it quickly.
7) Magic Missle can do wonders.
8) Use the abilities of all your characters, for example: if you have mages, cast spells; if you have thieves, lay traps and lead Firkraag into them.
9) Try to avoid using limited charge items until you desparately HAVE to. ie. don`t use a potion of extra healing if you suffer 1-2 HP damage...
10) There are some items you find around the place that do extra damage vs dragons. The Dragon Slayer Longsword comes to mind. Use them only if you are proficient in them.

Kaltia 08-30-2002 08:52 AM

Firkraag is a toughy. he may cast stoneskin on himself and some other attacks. Cast the 5th level priest spell Chaotic commands on your tanks, as he likes to cast chaos. Buff your party up-I suggest Bless, Chant, resist fear 20'' radius, and haste. Make sure you have potions on all of your party members. Ultimate cheese is abusing the wand of cloudkill, which seems to ignore target magic resistance. On your clerics and, if you have them, ranger/ paldin, cast armour of faith and resist fire/cold. if your PC is a fighter of any class, have him use his special ability draw upon holy might.
Spread your party out and prepare by summoning minions by the bucket load. if you still have the wand of monstyer summoning from Irenicus' dugeon, use it only when your spell summoned creatures die.
Lastly, be prepared to reload a few thousand times.

Karse Soze 08-30-2002 09:00 AM

I heard somewhere that if you cast "magic resistance" (NOT LOWER RESISTANCE) on the creature, it will actually take the 90% magic resist it has and replace it with around 20% (which is what the spell "magic res." delivers), due to a bug in the game.

I know it's almost like cheating, but to some it might seem helpful?!?

Personally, I summoned a whole lot, buffed Keldorn and Minsc, and had a whole lot of magic missiles in memory. But I must say that I was really thankful for "The Wand of Resurrection" when the whole thing was over

Kaltia 08-30-2002 09:40 AM

It reduces the mr to 50, but your priest has to stand right next to Firkraag to cast it and he turns hostile as soon as they begin...wing buffets, anyone?
