What is everyone doing this New Years? I myself will be meeting friends at their apartment in the city of Sydney, and then moving on to the Domain to stake out a good spot to watch the fireworks. After that, who knows?

Hivetyrant 12-30-2004 10:34 AM

meeting a friend that moved away a little while ago, with some other friends.
oh btw, its Muller, for those of us who hail from Orange

Sigmar 12-30-2004 10:34 AM

Go to Auntie's first.

Then go to town with my friends.

Have a few drinks.

Probably wake up on the 2nd of January lying on a beach with a Seagull building a nest on my head.

philip 12-30-2004 10:35 AM

I'll stay home. Friends of my parents are coming over they're cool so I don't mind staying home. We're going to eat together. After dinner we'll probably be watching TV or just talking. Then I'll go watch some fireworks and I think after that we'll be eating even more and then I go to bed. Pretty boring but I don't know others who don't celebrate it with their families and others are going to some huge dance party, so I'd like staying home better.

Callum 12-30-2004 10:36 AM

Well it looks like I may not be going out after all...

The PM has asked for there not to be any public parties in respect of the victims of the tidal wave. My parent's take this to mean that noone is allowed to be in a public place that night...

They want me to invite all my friends over and have a party here. But with them not knowing about us drinking, and my Dad being our school principal... that will never work

Guess I'll just say I'm going over to a friend's house then...

dplax 12-30-2004 10:40 AM

I don't know yet, maybe I'm going out with a friend, or maybe we are just going to be at one of our places. I still have to talk to him about it.

johnny 12-30-2004 11:20 AM

I was going out, but since my friends are going to stay over at their family's places, i guess i'll be staying home. One thing is sure though, i'm not going to be sober when the clock strikes 12. :D

Xen 12-30-2004 11:46 AM

I will be at home. Also I will have the whole house for me, myself and I. :D

Partee, what else is there to do? :D
Have fun guys, all of yaz!!

SilentThief 12-30-2004 01:11 PM

sadly, I will be working at the job I hate overnight making food for the local drunks who wanna come to my workplace at 3 in the morning with an attitude and buy food, and getting paid waaaaaayyyy to little for dealing with it.

But as You people are witness, I'll have a job that pays more and doesn't involve "special sauce" or super sizing within a week (well, as I've seen that most jobs aren't hiring during holiday, I'll just say "soon") even if that job is to donate plasma or collect and recycle cans for a living.

But y'all have a fun and safe new year.

Everyone is coming round my house. Five children under eight, it's gonna be a nightmare. I think I'm just gonna mooch about the streets with my friends, maybe stopping at my other friends houses who are also having partys, and then go home for when the clock strikes 12.

Then to bed, I have to be up at 8 in the morning :'(

Blind_Prophet 12-30-2004 04:31 PM

Try and not black out

Sir Goulum 12-30-2004 04:52 PM

Maybe rent a movie and go to bed at 10. God, I'm a party animal! ;)

LennonCook 12-30-2004 04:55 PM

<span style="color: lightblue">Making last minute preparations for a website launch. Then actually launching the beast.

Jaradu 12-30-2004 04:56 PM

I don't believe in "New Years"... I don't celebrate it at all - it's just an excuse to get drunk IMO ;) ... My family go out to the local village party and drink until their body has increased in liquid by 25% . I, on the other hand, will be sitting at home gaming and watching some comedy repeats on TV. With an unlimited supply of coke. :D

Jorath Calar 12-30-2004 04:57 PM

Given that the weather forecast here for tomorrow evening is STORM and since most of my friends are either abroad or have family plans, I'll most likely stay home, eat snacks, watch tv, post on Ironworks and hope to see some fireworks (despite the storm)... some fun ehh...

spydar 12-30-2004 05:26 PM

Going to a party at one of my boyfriend's friends houses somewhere outside Calgary. and because it's outside C-town, and there is very little chance that anybody would be a designated driver, we're crashing there and driving back to Calgary the next day.

LennonCook 12-30-2004 06:02 PM

<span style="color: lightblue">Dave, it isn't "New Years Eve", but "New Year's Eve": the Eve of the new year, not the eve of "new years" (because it's only one year).
Jarrad, same with your signature: "New Year", not "New years".

Kakero 12-30-2004 07:38 PM

Staying at home since I have the entire house to myself. But on 11.30 pm I'll be going to the beach to wash my feet at the stroke of midnight.

Black Knight 12-30-2004 07:45 PM

hmmm...hanging out with friends, drinking beer...playing card games...drinking beer...playing drinking game with beer...mmmm beer....what was the question?

Lauren 12-30-2004 09:09 PM

Well for new years eve, I will be going to a party. WOOT!!
So I'll be meeting new people and catching up with my friends.

Ladyzekke 12-30-2004 10:28 PM

I'm doing nothing LOL. After all the travelling and family visits, I'm just looking forward to three days of recovering and being a total slug. I'm gonna go to the grocery store tomorrow at some point, when I get out of bed, which will probably be around 11:00am or Noon LOL, so I have food and drinks, then I'm sluggin it. Entire house is spotless because of all the holiday visitors, so no cleaning to be done. I'm good! Hope Lifetime has some decent movies on tomorrow, otherwise I may rent something (don't know what though).

Poor Dick Clark can't do the Rockin New Years Eve show this year, after 30 years or so. We get Regis Philbin now. Not a bad replacement, but then again I really don't care, by the time midnight comes on any given New Years Eve, I'm pretty drunk and not paying a whole lotta attention to much at all LOL. :D

Happy New Year!!

Mack_Attack 12-30-2004 10:43 PM

Not doing to much we were going to go to cityhall with Sydney. There is some outdoor event going on but looks like it is a no go for us the weather has made a turn for the worst. Meaning that it is going to be very cold. So looks like a quite night at home with the family. :D

Lord 12-30-2004 10:44 PM

partyiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing :D

Bungleau 12-30-2004 11:13 PM

We're going out to dinner at our favorite special-occasion chinese buffet (which includes things like steak, lobster, and sushi on the menu!).

Then it's back to the house with the kids to watch a movie or two and listen to them talk about how they're going to stay up until midnight. Somewhere around 10:30, we'll move their sleeping bodies to their beds. :D

Then my wife will head for bed 'cause it's too late, and I'll probably head down to the computer to game for a while, and maybe join the IW Happy New Year thread :D

Winter Wolf 12-31-2004 12:45 AM

I'm such a party animal. My mandatory (hey it's new year's eve) two shots of vodka, followed with my vodka, kahlua, and bailey's irish cream mix and a round of Wiz 8 with Flame's mod, all the time wondering why it is I'm *incapable* of getting drunk with that much booze in me anymore (I drink about once a month). But at least the mixed drink is tasty.

Oh ya, and the in-laws are supposed to come over for food (any holiday is a good excuse for food, even ones that aren't celebrated in this country). The in-laws are cool, so it's all good.

All in all, life is going to be so idyllic I think I may puke. -_-;

Dave_the_quack 12-31-2004 01:44 AM

Alright, time to go get myself dolled up for New Years. I hope everyone here has a fantastic night tonight, and remember, 2005 will be what you make it.

Later Ironworks.

Animal 12-31-2004 02:16 AM

Falling asleep at about 10:00

New Years just doesn't have the same meaning it did when I was young and stupid.

T-D-C 12-31-2004 02:29 AM

Heading over to a mates place for our own fireworks display and plenty of drinks!

See you all Next year!

Sounds about right, yeah.

I'll be in my room watching movies on my computer, playing my game on my Ps2 and dining on a pizza away from the drunks that will crowd my apartment and probably watch the family downstairs beat the crap out of each other when they're liquored up :D

CerebroDragon 12-31-2004 04:23 AM

Just me, my cat Mithrilana and her three crazy kittens, Gloomy, Arthur and Tubs.

I'll play a bit of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Tenchu 2 on PS, then it'll be back to Fallout on PC. But its a nice night, so I might end up going for a ride.

Bah Humbug to the new year celebrations!
Its just another day and hedonism doesn't make it any more special.

I also might play some loud slow and doomy distorted bass guitar just to annoy the next door mormons or any near by revel-heads. :D

RoSs_bg2_rox 12-31-2004 06:59 AM

I'm having a few mates over and I'm sure at least one of them will get lathered. I probably won't since the girlfriend is coming, then later they can all bugger of and leave me to my bed, with the gf there to keep me warm

Bahamut 12-31-2004 07:09 AM

Well the usual we eat at the stroke of midnight, open our closets and doors put money on our pockets and welcome the new year with open arms. After the family thing I don't know. There are tons of gigs happening around town here so I am not so sure... don't want to play with fireworks so I guess I'll try to watch some if ever. ;)

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 12-31-2004 07:15 AM

My wife suggested we spend New Years' eve alone together for a change. We havn't done that, ever.
We hope to go bowling or skating and then come back home.

For them what will be drinking, please be responsible my friends.

Grojlach 12-31-2004 10:28 AM

The plan was to go to Prague with a group of friends, but the one who was supposed to take care of our flight tickets completely forgot about them until the flight was overbooked.
So now it's just having some drinks until midnight and then going out to a party downtown. Meh, I'd had worse. ;)

Melusine 12-31-2004 10:57 AM

Doh, Groj, what a bummer. Ah well, have fun anyway!

I normally have a pretty quiet New Year's Eve - I almost always spend it at my mother's place, with my mom and sister. It's nice and predictable: there's always champagne, Riverdance on the telly, watching the fireworks from behind the windows, having to kiss the horribly mustachioed neighbour a happy new year, and basking in the glow of familial cosiness and warmth.

But this year I'm going to my sister's place to celebrate, after which I'll probably tuck in my mother at around 1:30 ;) and then we're off to some party in the city (Utrecht) with karaoke and everything. :S
Thing about New Year's Eve though, is that people always seem to have huge expectations of it, but why would it be any different from any regular night out? Well, except for the fact that people get drunk on champagne instead of beer, dress a little more weirdly, stay out a little later and it costs you about ten times as much as a normal night. And so everybody usually gets disappointed. So I've decided not to have any expectations at all - well, besides expecting the karaoke to be even worse than watching Riverdance. I'm even going to get glammed up a little, though the chances of me doing karaoke remain infinitesimal. Oh and I doubt I'll still be able to spell infinitesimal in about 10 hours. Anyway. I hope you all will have a great evening (for the ones who still have the New Year's Eve ahead, that is) but more importantly, I hope you all have a great year ahead of you!

Oh and in closing I just wanted to say I read about the Australian initiative to start the new year with one minute of silence. Kudos to those who did.
