OK, since I can barely figure any of the other lateral thinking questions, I dont wanna feel left out so here is one of my personal favorites.
A woman brought her car up beside a hotel, and knew immediately that she was about to become bankrupt. Why and how does she know? |
There are too many answers for that!
It was her hotel and it had been knocked down? There was a carjacker stood outside her window? She Pulled over because her bank manager called? |
you may be able to think of several answers, but none of those were the one i was looking for.
|
The point hes making are that they are lame puzzles, the ones that Callum etc set have one answer, these are just open ended.
Its like the one where: Why did the dj kill himself when his radio station skipped. They're pointless. |
These are not pointless things, mes amis. They encourage you to think of things differently, rather than just accept what is in front of you. And this one certainly encourages you to think outside the box, so to speak, and eliminate your own assumptions.
Answer PMd momentarily... :D |
Bungleau's right, on his opinion and his answer!

The hotel is on Broadway and she doesn't have $2000.
|
Thank you for giving away the answer Azred. but yeah, you are right.
|
Sack of blue!
It's so obvious now! :D |

That is actually quite clever when you think about it, although I did manage to figure it out, and was pleased that I could get confirmation from the thread (through Azred)
I vote Mayfair :D |

She didn't have to stay there? |
Agreed, that was lame.
Your right, she didnt have to stay there. So why is she bankrupt. Could she not drive away? Sorry, not a decent puzzle. |
I see evidence that even though there was a clue presented that some thought was too obvious, it wasn't
There's a reason, folks, there's a reason. And when you hear it, you may get a wee bit angry for just a moment. Try not to let it out, though, okay? |
Binky and Lavi - ever heard of a board game called Monopoly? :D Now - is it really such a bad puzzle when you think in that light?
|
Guys, you missed out on some fun days :D
You musta heard of Monopoly what with all the different versions. I'm surprised there isn't an IW version yet! |
Yeah, me and Binky have monopoly, but we dont have a broadway on that board! Thats where I lost the plot!
We have Mayfair as the most expensive, so thats where it got really confusing!!! We aint all American dont forget! |
ohhh monopoly!
we have Mayfair on our board, yeah I was wondering why she had to stay there, I was confused, Mayfair makes it clear however. good puzzle, but hard for non Americans. (fine fine, I'll agree America created monopoly, and the origional game had Broadway, so really you are right) |
Nononono Lavi and Intrepid - go look at the puzzle that was given at the very top - there was no mention of Broadway. The puzzle was the same for Americans and non-Americans . The clue given by Azred is what put you off. The puzzle just connects a car a hotel and bankruptcy. While Azred's clue was a little offputting, it was what gave it away to me. How many hotels set you back 2000 of anything. What does a hotel on Mayfair cast - 2000 - connection = Monopoly. Assumption = Americans use different titles for their streets or stations to make this universal game sell beter. So don't blame the puzzle guys it was good.
|
Yeah, the original puzzle was good!
But, even with Azred's hint I didnt get it. Cos we have Mayfair, and it costs £450, not 2000 of anything lol. So I just confused and took it for real! But yes, I didnt click at the original puzzle, and Azred just sent me round the houses! |
Sure it cost 450 Lavi - to buy - but it costs 2000 in rent if it has a HOTEL doesn't it (in either country) ;) .
|
Well, better late than never. I was thinking along the lines of her gambling addiction and the fact that she's pulling up to a hotel in Vegas. She knows she can't stop herself and she also knows she can't leave until all her money is gone. I will keep her in my prayers today. :D

"Come on. I'll trade you Cloudy's Cafe for the GD forum." "No way. Everyone knows that once you get a hotel on Cloudy's Cafe, the game is over." "But you can't build hotels. You don't own Choc's bed!" "Oh, I will..." |

Lol, ages since I played that game. |
