the original thread used to be here

the previous thread is here:

Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

First post.

Edit: Oh, what a lousy day it's already started out to be. My bird has been screaming non stop and the nousy arse woke me up three times. Still have to go see my doctor today and go to my tech school, what a fun day.

Cloudbringer 12-20-2004 09:25 AM

Good morning Gangrell! Sounds like a hectic day for you. I hope things calm down sometime soon! Is the bird bothered by weather changes or something? Or just happy and letting you know?!

Cloudbringer 12-20-2004 09:26 AM

 PLEASE NOTE

This is a modified reminder that I've posted before in reply to someone asking "can we spam the cafe". It still holds true, so I'm going to repeat it periodically for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Read the first post of the thread, it's NOT a spam zone. If you want to discuss you grades, a problem with a teacher, the weather, your neighbor's new car etc.....etc.. (real life conversations) this is the place. I don't mind a SMALL amount of spam but when the Cafe gets to be 8 pages in one day and it's all one liner pure spam, I have to ask people not to do it because most of the members who would come to talk about their day or things that they want advice or sympathy or cheers on, will not post in that atmosphere. I want you to be comfy here, but not at the expense of other members.

So the answer is NO, I don't want to see page after page of roleplay spam or one liner spamfests that could be done on msn or aim etc. because our goal is to TALK WITH one another , not fill up a cafe in five hours. ;)

Gangrell 12-20-2004 09:28 AM

If the bird is happy Cloudy, it's painful knowing his joy

Vaskez 12-20-2004 09:31 AM

Ah the sweet smell of spam and cloudy's starbucks coffee in the *checks watch* afternoon. I will forever condemn this thread as spam, you spammy good-fer-nothings :D

Gangrell - if your bird's been screaming, then just gag her, slap her on the ass and tell her to go and do the dishes or something :D :D :D

Well, as Vaskez seems to have been the punctu-ma-nazi lately... that's "if your bird's been screaming" :D

Yay! Holidays! Still! :D

Gonna be up all night though, I fell asleep for 5 hours this afternoon...

SomeGuy 12-20-2004 09:47 AM

Ah this is gonna be a good day. Dad woke me up this morning as I requested, and now I'm currently waiting on Connor to ring me up so we can go get biscuits and gravy at the local Daylight Donuts. Now, I know you're saying "It's a donut shop, why are you getting biscuits and gravy instead of donuts?" Well, it's because... biscuits and gravy kick ass. Rico would be joining us, but he's helping the needy today! Go Rico! I'd help, but he said it was okay and he'd find us later. We do this every Saturday, but since we couldn't do it this Saturday, we moved it to Monday. Hooray for Christmas Break. :D

Xen 12-20-2004 10:54 AM

Blunderbuss 12-20-2004 11:12 AM

Over here in England, It has snowed for the fist time this month, unfortunately not enough for it to be used as an excuse to go home from school early. Oh well, only one more day to go, and that's school over for 2004. (Yes that's right; I finish school on a Tuesday).

Gangrell, I told you what to do to the bird. throw it at your dad while he is sleeping my kids got some early chirstmas presents yesterday, and since Caleb is home from school for the holidays, he is driving me crazy with it. it is one of those Magna wheels things from matchbox, he took it apart and can not figure out how to put it back together. the girls got talking Carebears *rolls eyes* and of course skylers is pink and Dews is purple.

I'm watching Kill Bill 1. I am just at the scene where "The bride" fights with the Japanese mob leader (Lucy Liu). Not that the movie is a little blood-boiling or anything.

armageddon272 12-20-2004 02:53 PM

Hyello. I'm here back from school and checking E-mails and such. Kill Bill was a good movie, hope your enjoying it Xen!

Attalus 12-20-2004 02:55 PM

'Smatter, Vaskez? You are so envious of all the fun we are having so that you just have to rain on our parade? Good afternoon, all. It's 68 degrees F. here, today, but windy, windy, windy. Galadria is fuming because her outdoor Christmas displays are being battered.

What kind of bird it is, Gangrell?

Attalus, we get pretty high winds here sometimes, and I've seen all sorts of things blowing down the road, from wreaths to bbq covers.

Xen 12-20-2004 04:46 PM

Well I finished watching Kill Bill 1 and 2. 4 hrs behind the monitor. I really liked both movies. Good night.

We've had a reindeer and a train blow down, Cloudy. Hm, about an hour to sunset. Better get cracking.

We had a windy day yesterday! 100 km/h at times (60 mp/h for you american folks ;) )! And then it snowed a good foot. :( I hate shovelling! Ah, well, only 5 days until christmas!

Kakero 12-20-2004 07:24 PM

Wooooo! New Cloudy Cafe. must post! must post! :D

Currently I'm enjoying life without my family or the servants in the house ( I sent them all to holidays ). Ahhh...I got the entire house all to myself. Nobody to disturb me, nobody to bother me. peaceful and quiet at last. Too bad I can't sent the security guards away. brr...br...

I took the liberty to get a time off from work too. Now I can concerntrate on playing my unfinished pc/ps2 games. ahhh...this is the life.

Lady Sedai 12-20-2004 07:38 PM

Gangrell, perhaps your bird is lonely, dear.

I don't know what kind it is, but I know anything at all in the "parrot" family needs either a LOT of human attention AND toys to play with, etc. OR another bird.

I'm sure song bird types are similar in that they get lonely, too.

Lonely? He gets attention, there's always someone in the room with him, but from what I can understand, Maccaws are constantly hungry and we can't always feed him. Could be it or maybe he's insane, either or.

Gangrell, having someone "in the room" is *not* the same as interacting with him, silly.

Hmmm...if you'd like (and you haven't already), I can hook you up with some really good websites on the care, feeding *and* mental health of parrots.

Some people get the birds because they are smart and very pretty, but don't *truly* understand what they need to be happy.

Just trying to help. Too many of these birds end up in rescues because the family can't take the sqwauking.

Miss Sedai, here's the thing. My bird got beat on early in his life, and we've had him for 3-4 years now and he still bites and snaps at us, and still screams even when we do play with him. I am really close to getting rid of him though, waking up to screaming every morning is becoming a little more than I can bear, and I need sleep because I'm already a borderline insomniac.

Oh, come now, I've got you beaten that easily? How you disappoint me Vask, I suppose we can always get Q'alooaith to replace you :D

Lady Sedai 12-20-2004 08:25 PM

I hate to see your bird get passed around again as it will only cause more psychological damage.

If you wish, here are three very good sites (from what I can tell) that may help you, your family AND your bird out.

The first one, in particular, even has a forum where you could ask people questions just like here, only for parrots. The second one would be one option if you *do* end up having to give him away. At least you could give him to someone who can help him if it comes to that. And the third site has some helpful information on the psyche of parrots.

I do hope this helps. It's sad to hear that poor bird has had such a bad time of it, but also that it's disrupting *your* life as well. Parrots live too long to let them stay so upset.
