I'm going back to see just about how long it's going to last...hopefully until school's out for christmas, or atleast until friday...

Calagari 12-15-2004 05:05 AM

Whatever you do DON'T SCRATCH THE SPOTS ON YOUR FACE! Put lotion on them or something but don't scratch them. They may pock up and look real ugly on your face if you do. Get well soon in time for the holidays.

The real b[cencored]s are the ones on the back of my head, they itch like HELL, 5 times worse than others say on my face or back. Have any of you had chiken pox, who knows my pain?

I found that pouring cold water on the ones on the back of my head stops the itching for a while. I don't know if that's a good idea or not, but if it solves this ubearable HELL for me, i'll take it...

Damn, sorry to hear that, the chicken pox suck, but remember, you generally only get them once!
So scratch like hell and enjoy it while you can!!!
Or not :D

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 06:01 AM

Hehe, i AM scrathcing the ones on the back of my head like hell. Remember, if you scratch, they leave marks, but you can't see the marks if they're covered by my hair

Sigmar 12-15-2004 07:58 AM

I got Chicken pox on the day of my GCSE results...couldn't go out and paaartay! :D

You're in the best stage of the "experience" right now. Pretty soon you're gonna look like a zombie, red, angry spots EVERYWHERE (I can't emphasise that enough ).

Than the scabs will form, it is REALLY important that you don't touch, or remove these otherwise you will get scars, like I have on my face. They'll fall off on their own accord...eventually.

Be strong! :D

:(

Although, i don't have to go back to shcool until after christmas, now. So, i get an extra week. Yay. Just a shame it's a week on unbearable itchy hell, but i wonder how many bg2 characters i can finesh...I have like 6 started...

Get some hydrocortisone cream to put on the bumps, hon.

I know calamine lotion used to be the thing, but it never did ANYthing for *me* when I had them as a kid. But hydrocortisone *might* help.

And yes, be careful about scratching them and ESPECIALLY about picking scabs, etc. anywhere you don't want scars.

As to the cold water trick...hey, it can't hurt, so if it works I'd do it. Now *hot* water might not be a good idea, but I don't see how cold water can be a problem.

Just sorry to hear you are miserable. *Hug*

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 08:36 AM

*woo, 300 posts* Me mum sugested calamine, but it smells *VILE* so i gave her a big fat no. As for hydrocortisone...What the hell is that?
Yeh, hot water is NOT very pleasant, as i found out this morning when i got in the shower...Ow.

Cloudbringer 12-15-2004 08:47 AM

Chicken pox... oh boy.. not fun! I had them as a child but my brother got them as a teen and I remember he was miserable.

Aveeno makes a good oatmeal bath that helps with itching. Definitely don't scratch anywhere you don't want a scar! I have one tiny one from scratching at the bumps, but I was five and nobody told me not to! LOL, well, they probably did, but hey, at five you don't always listen to good advice! :D

Well, the "smell" of calamine dissapates as it dries, so you wouldn't smell it for long anyway.

Hydrocortisone cream is an anti-itch cream. Basically, it's an anti-histamine. Histamines are the things in your body that *cause* you to feel "itchy". Hydrocortisone blocks those hystamines so you don't itch. Or you don't itch as *much*. But check with the doctor first to make sure it would be okay. A quick phone call should do it.

Also, as Cloudy said...the Aveeno oatmeal bath is wondermous! :D Something in the oatmeal calms the itching.

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 09:05 AM

lol! Porridge bath! I think i could have misunderstood...Luckily i've only scratched the back of my head so far, so if i get any scars they won't be visislbe :D

Lady Sedai 12-15-2004 09:07 AM

Yeah...but you'll have all these little bald patches on the back of your head...

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 09:10 AM

aarg, guess i'll quit doing that then but i'll have long hair, so they'll be covered by that...hopefully...I can just pray i DON'T get bald patches, eew. No, that doesn't sound good.

[EDIT] but pouring cold water over myself every time it ictehs will give me brainfreeze eventually , and it's still not the most pleasant experiance in the world, but it's better than the itching.

Lady Sedai 12-15-2004 09:18 AM

LOL! Well, you'll just have to decide which you'd rather have...a bit of smelly lotion on you, brain freeze and a porridge bath or ITCHING FROM HADES!!!

;)

philip 12-15-2004 09:21 AM

They're really annoying. I've had them when I was young. I can remember they itched a lot unless I was doing something which took my mind away from them. I also had a long time free from school :D

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 09:21 AM

Starting to want the smelly lotion now :D :D We're gonna get called spammers soon :D

[EDIT] Same, i'm getting a LONG time off, becuase there's only a week left until we break up for christmas, and i get that week off...School's out of christmas early this year :D

Cloudbringer 12-15-2004 09:23 AM

LOL, you've got a few weeks til they dry up, most likely, so I'd try something to ease the itching... whether it's oatmeal or hydrocortisone or soaking your head.. LOL I hope you don't go stir crazy! hehe Maybe you can distract yourself with a good movie or playing a game or something.

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 09:27 AM

I intend to finesh of a few bg2 games i have going, maybe watch a few music dvd's i have, rent out the full LOTR trilogy possably... Thanks for the film idea cloudy, i hadn't thaught of that, seems like a good way to take my mind away from to itching.

[EDIT]I think i know why the water helps. Correct me if i'm wrong, but an itch is an iflamation right? It is a hot sensation, so if i cool down my skin with cold water, it's gonna cool down the inflamation, making the itch less noticable becuase it isn't as hot and raging.

Lady Sedai 12-15-2004 10:01 AM

To your "edit"...that and the cold water probably numbs the area a bit, too. ;)

Cloudbringer 12-15-2004 10:04 AM

Glad to help, TGTF! Oooh, LOTR! I wish I could sit and watch that, but with work and getting ready for Christmas, I don't have time right now..so watch it extra carefully for me,too! :D *teehee*

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 10:07 AM

Aye, it numbs my head, so i'm a bit thick headed atm :D :D I'll try and get brother or someone to pick up LOTR later tonight :D

Absynthe 12-15-2004 10:15 AM

Oh man, chicken pox has to be one of the worst things ever. I got it when I was about fifteen, and didn't listen to the "don't scratch" warnings... I now have scars on my face and arms. If I recall, baking soda may help the itchiness. Try mixing a bit into a paste and see if it does any good for you. If it does, throw a box in the bath an soak yourself. Another thing that might help is Benadryl cream. It's similar to hydrocortisone cream in effect, but made of different stuff.
Good luck, and don't scratch!

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 10:20 AM

I agree, it's the worst thing i've ever been through, and i'm only on day 1! And yeh i have NOTHING better to do than to keep posting on this forum i have around 30-35 times today. Anyway, yeh i'm trying as hard as i can not to scratch, which i'm doing ok at, but it IS very tempting to do so. But i keep telling myself, 'I don't want scars i don't want scars' I should come out clean the way it's going, but i don't know if i can keep this up for a week, especially if it gets any worse, and i KNOW it will...

Lady Sedai 12-15-2004 10:28 AM

Okay...another suggestion to help you not scratch (ESPECIALLY when you go to sleep, cause you WILL scratch in your sleep!)...wear gloves. Now that may not work so well while you are trying to type unless you have those "ultrathin" types, but wear them any other time. Gloves will keep your nails away from your skin. ;)

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 10:30 AM

well, i have half an idea of tying my hands together in my sleep :D but i doubt that'd help much, or i could take a trick used in the tv show 'friends' and put oven gloves on it my sleep, hehe

[EDIT] I'm gonna give myself a goal, and the way i'm going i'll reach it. I intend to finesh my current game on BG2 WITHOUT restarting halfway through and to reach 600 posts by the time my chicken pox has gone. The way i'm going, i'll reach that :D

Sigmar 12-15-2004 11:37 AM

You'll lose the will to live half-way through, and probably won't feel like playing any videogames.

Least, thats what happened to me! :D

Cloudbringer 12-15-2004 11:42 AM

Absynthe's post reminded me that we use Benadryl cream (over the counter product) for all sorts of things like bee stings and bug bites.. bet it works great on chickenpox!

But I bet the more you think about not scratching, the harder it gets! Better get a movie ready to distract yourself! LOL

Hivetyrant 12-15-2004 11:42 AM

lol, good luck with that one ') you will likely need it

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 11:42 AM

Well i already can't take much more of this...Still resisting the scratching, but only by biting into my bedding so hard it hurts my jaw, that diverts my attention from the spots :D

[EDIT] yeh cloudy, mum's JUST this second gone to get me lotr

Sigmar 12-15-2004 11:49 AM

My advice. Cold showers, at half-hour intervals.

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 11:52 AM

Well, atm i'm pouring cold water over my head at half-hour intervals, which helps, but it realy is unpleasant. But a cold shower? That has to be horrible, but if it gets me through this, then i'll take it!

Hivetyrant 12-15-2004 11:54 AM

Hey I have an idea..
Why dont you peel off all of your skin? :D It would get rid of the problem, just do it in a place with good drainage though

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 11:55 AM

LOL that idea i like :D :D nice one

Considering that I was covered in about more layers of Camoline lotion than a honey roasted ham, and still itched, I'm of the opinion that the only thing that will reduce the itching/swelling are regular cold showers *not ice cold, but less than "warm"*.

Hivetyrant 12-15-2004 12:00 PM

Well if you treasure your skin as much as I do, you could always chop off the fingers :D

TheGodThatFailed 12-15-2004 12:02 PM

Well, when i get majorly annoyed with the ones on my back and front, i guess i'll take your advice, Sigmar. The cold water *REALY* helps my head, so i think i deffinatly will take cold showers. I'll need to pluck up the courage to face the freeze though...

Hivetyrant 12-15-2004 12:06 PM

Hmmm, the only serious advice I can think of is using Aloe vera.... I think thats what my mum used when I had them.
it really stopped the scratching cravings.
I would ask her but its 4:00AM, and I doubt she would appreciate me waking her, or ,y dad
