Wow... I'm lost for words... How could anyone do that?

SomeGuy 11-24-2004 03:45 PM

It's sick people like this that make me wanna go insane. It's disgusting how low some people will go. I remember when we a had a guest speaker come in and talk to us in 7th grade. He told us a story about a couple who had gone to South America or somewhere, and they had their baby with them in a stroller. Apparently they turned their back for one second and they turned around, the baby was gone. The told a police officer and they did a border patrol thing, and they watched for people. Well the mother noticed a woman carrying a baby and recognized it as her's, and she called out and chased her, but the police beat her to the woman, took the baby and wouldn't let her see it. Apparently the people who had kidnapped the baby had cut it open, removed the chest cavity, and replaced it with cocaine. A sick world we live in.

Spirits forever 11-24-2004 03:58 PM

just when you think that..it does, yet i don't feel sad for her (the girl who's baby got abducted) since she did get her baby back, and now hopefully doing alright. but i mean.. it's not right...
i mean, it might've been alot worse, like her child dieing, or she herself dying.. so i mean if you look at it that way..it's not that. bad..

Jorath Calar 11-24-2004 04:01 PM

Sheesh, thats awful... but humanity stopped surprising me long time ago.

Blind_Prophet 11-24-2004 04:56 PM

I don't know whats worse the story or my indifference.

Oh, yeah, didn't notice at first.

And, no mater how you slice it (no pun intended) it's disgusting!

Kakero 11-24-2004 06:31 PM

uhh...hope the abducter got the highest possible punishment.

Ladyzekke 11-24-2004 08:50 PM

Anyone remember that "preppie killer" that was sent to prison for killing a girl in 1986. He's been out for a year and a half or so.

http://www.courttv.com/news/2004/112...killer_ap.html

He always creeped me out. I saw his trial on Court TV, and some of the evidence showed video tapes he and his friends made, where they are playing with barbie dolls and he rips the head off of one and laughs and says something like "no don't!" and this was AFTER he had killed the girl, but before he was arrested for it.

check snopes.com this incident, tho widely reported, has never happened.

back to the main post-doesn't surprise me. sounds sad, huh? people will do anything for many reasons. doesn't make it any less tragic, but really doesn't surprise me. what surprises me is that the mother is alive and still have her two year old.

Callum 11-25-2004 04:25 AM

That's sick.

Vaskez 11-25-2004 02:52 PM

Ivelliis 11-25-2004 04:03 PM

That is really sick, why would someone do such a thing?

Thankyou for clarifing that, because that is horrific, i'm glad it's untrue.

Ontopic, well that's a horific thing. That woman that stole the beby will be beaten pretty badly with those cops though, if not killed. That country has so many problems, i hate news like that.

Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 12-05-2004 07:48 AM

Maybe y'all in Europe know more about this, but I've heard that people are abducted in the street, put unconcious and taken into an alley to have their organs stolen! Human organs are big money on the black market. I also here that whoever is doing the surgery does an amazing job. They sew the people up, they don't let 'em bleed to death in the alley.

Bungleau 12-05-2004 10:48 PM

Propogating more urban legends, Variol? Usually they wake up in a bathtub of ice, not an alley...

Yes, it's a real threat here in Europe. It's very difficult finding our way among the organ stealers, baby eating communists, and vicious dragons.
Also, the European mainland is rumoured to be crawling with these:

Where'd you get that crazy picture from?

For shame! Someone here really needs to brush up on his 12th/13th century history. ;)
But basically, it's an illustration (or actually a woodcut) that accompanied a 1481 reprint of "The Travels of Jan van Mandeville", depicting the "eye-witness reports" of European travellers who went to Asia and Africa and returned with all kinds of crazy stories of monsters they claimed to have seen; some of them the result of simply not being able to comprehend what they saw with their 12th century mindset (they likened Asians to dog-faced people, for instance), some of them based on rumours, wide imaginations, or just a bad case of trying to look more interesting than they were. Others simply made up entire travel-stories from beginning to end, probably because the gullible medieval mindset was not capable of telling the difference between fact and fiction in all this; especially considering the fact they would never go over to Africa or Asia themselves to check on these stories anyway.
I'd say it's a perfect example of the gullible nature of man, and how the unknown has always been scary, fascinating, magical, and/or potentially dangerous and the Promised Land at the same time - which didn't only result in things like xenophobia and religion, but to (sometimes retrospectively) hilarious mass-hysteria like the above, countless UFO reportings/abduction mumbo jumbo, or even petty soccer mom outrages in recent decades over microwaves and rock & roll music. ;)

Still a pity I had to explain it, though. Basically, it was a more subtle way of saying "Yarr, there be monsters in Europe", which was my somewhat mocking response to your silly "it's-so-far-from-my-home-it-just-has-to-be-true" assertion that organ stealing is somehow a well known practice in Europe. Like Bungleau said, it's an urban legend. ;)

And don't forget the sea serpents in the channel... that's why they had to build the chunnel you know, too many ships being eaten.
