Bono (in my opinion) is an arrogant jackass. U2 isnt even that good and the guy thinks he rules the music world. His latest are his comments about being in the UK hall of fame. Granted those things are stupid ass hell but his overal attitude is that of a snooty child. I'd punch his friggin lights out, then explain why. Of course with a head that swollen with pride he likely wont bruise but sure as hell would hurt Its like the grammys a couple years ago where he said "F*** the mainstream(music) uhh hello Bono your mainstream, the guys an idiot
|
They've been playing his latest song all over the place lately (Hello Hello), not just on the radio but TV s as well. Too bad it isn't Goodbye Goodbye LOL.
I'm never impressed when anything or anyone gets shoved down my throat re media. |
I honestly don't mind the music, mainstream or no. At least it has a distinctive sound, unlike half the junk out there being pushed by record companies.
The arrogance, however, I can do without. It's a well-known fact that only the most grounded musicians can stay humble once they've made it big. |
The music he is complaining about is all the rap, hip hop, R&B ie. all the rubbish that people listen to our days that is made up of computer generated sounds and not instriments, emimnen or usher couldnt pick up a guitar and play you a good song but Bono could even if he hasnt got a good voice.
I dont quite understand how you can call U2 "not that good" considering they've been goin now for like 23 years had multiple no# 1 albums songs and are one of the best known bands in the world. Another point, U2 are Irish they have to be good to get put into the hall of fame in another country wouldnt they. EDIT: sorry I was annoyed I just got kicked out of my house recently and Im not in a good mood. sorry if i offended [ 11-13-2004, 01:29 AM: Message edited by: lost prophet ] |
Never been a huge fan of Bono. But each to there own. He is a Icon in the music world. You have to give some respect he has just been doing it to long.
And lost prophet. Can you edit your post I am sure that using swear words is not needed to get your point accross. |
Its ok, I like cuss words. Sober now and yep still cant stand that twit Bono

I have mixed feelings about U2. I bought my personalized license plate in 1983 and it says U2*1 (* is a Crown in Canada) and I still have it on the front. I don't have their last 3-4 albums, I think the old stuff is better. At first they boasted being Christian, but I'm not sure they say that anymore. Paul Hewsen (Bono) is a great humanitarian and I don't know what fame can do to a person. When you have so many people telling you every day how great you are, it must get hard to stay humble after a while.
I have some great concert pics from a concert I went to in Ottawa (80's). Bono is up on the concrete wall before the show chatting with fans. There arn't many who would do that, specially knowing you'll get in big doo-doo if you're caught! |
I don't mind him, and i like U2.
|
A great humanitarion in image, he likes to talk about donating to things like war child and anti aids campaigns, but what does hé do? Sit on a big heap of money, that's what he does with it, buying expensive sunglasses and leather outfits, that's what he does. If he réally cared, he would put so much of his money in the anti-terribleness campaigns he would live a moderate life like a school teacher or somesuch.

Bono is arrogant, no doubts there, I've heard himself boast about how great his music is since I watch Vh1 from time to time. What he says about himself is not going to help his CD sales any, and rap may not be to my tastes, but U2 is not the salvation of rock music. I'd put my money on Velvet Revolver before I would them. |

Dogpile on Bono!!!!!!!!!!!! (runs and leaps) :D

U2 rocks, don't care much for Boner though.
|
some people are saying that he says he will do things but he doesnt. Did you know he quit U2 for a while because he didnt like rolling in money while others didnt, I know hes back in now but at the begining that was for the music not the money. Everyone for their own though.
|
he's not so bad
really, don't listen to U2 then if you don't like him, and blame the media for the image if you have a problem with it. Sure he contributes to the image, and there is no denying he's a little pompus but U2 as a whole are good, and they do do some work that's globally benificial. Personally i don't have a problem with him. [ 11-14-2004, 08:59 AM: Message edited by: Intrepid ] |
Nice tie-in to this topic, no further comment.
Bono will sing famous Band Aid III line Bono will definitely be re-recording his famous line for the Band Aid 20 record - after warning the other artists who wanted to sing it to "f**k off". The U2 frontman's line - "Tonight thank God it's them instead of you" - from the original 1984 version of 'Do They Know Its Christmas?' became the song's most instantly recognisable part. Competition was fierce to sing the line on the new version, with Robbie Williams, The Darkness singer Justin Hawkins and Coldplay's Chris Martin all desperate to record it. But Robbie has revealed Bono immediately told organiser Midge Ure he was definitely going to perform the famous lyrics He told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Everyone wanted it. But before anyone could start getting an ego about it, Bono just said, 'That's my line and I'm doing it - so the rest of you can f**k off.' That settled it! |
I don't understand how someone can claim a line, did Boner invent the alphabet or something ? Of all lame things i've ever heard, this is by far the lamest.
Tonight thank god it's them instead of you... There Boner, i used your sorry ass line, now sue me, i dare you. :D |
Hey I thought you was a fan Johnny.
Me, I love the music and I think BONO has done great deeds. So he is not perfect? I wish more people would make the same effort he does. 'To many protest singers not enough protest songs' ;) *wonders what LOA has done to make the world better today* |

Well, I like Bono. He's a handsome dude (like Sting! I like older guys . Or maybe it's their enigmatic one-word names... ) and he does lots of good. I would wager that he would contribute a much larger percentage of his money, not to mention time, to charities than most people about, it's just that he has so much, there's a lot left over! ;) Wasn't he nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize last/this year?
Apparently he wears sunglasses all the time because he has weak eyes. I read that somewhere; he was going to be giving someone away at their wedding, can't remember who it was, someone like Liv Tyler only it wasn't her, it was longer ago than that, but anyway, and he was going to be wearing his sunnies as he did so because of his eyes. This is what you learn from gossip mags, guys :D Although Bono isn't as cool as name as The Edge. I would love a name with 'The' in it :D |
i like music thats not computer generated or with videoclips full of butt naked female persons to make the music look any better :D
U2 don't needs that, and bono is doing a lot of good with his money and concerts. other artist may take an example to that and not spend there money on big ass houses on malibu and monaco!!! :D |

LOL Hier...er...The Hierophant. :D
I'm neutral to U2 in almost every way. They're easy enough to ignore, although a couple of years ago my French buddy (who looked a lot like Bono and would hunt down every last one of us in this thread for speaking ill of him...lol) begged me to play bass while he sang Where the Streets Have No Name. I was just beginning then, and that simple song was quite challenging. It was fun though, and my first live performance. |
U2 is okay -- some of the better pop trash out there. Bono's come a long way since I first saw him parading around in the "Sunday Bloody Sunday" video doing his best Mick Jager impersonation way back in the infancy of MTV. Good, catch pop fluff stuff.
Now, someone compared him to Eminem and rappers. I'll side with Steven Tyler on this one: the vocal/spoken word is a beautiful thing, and rap has reawakened it. Comparing these guys to Bono/pop is like comparing painting to sculpting -- they're just different. Some of the guys are mix-masters, and taking several tracks from pre-recorded songs and overlaying them to make something new and beautiful *is* art. |
