Variol (Farseer) Elmwood 10-29-2004 05:23 AM

I thought it might be interesting if people gave the origins of their forum names (not foreign names). Are they from a book or movie or just totally made up?

Mine is my previous DnD character, a Halfling Transmuter. I think I got the idea for the first name from a Terry Brooks book (think I changed the spelling a bit though). Farseer because I took infra vision and keen sight and Elmwood because of Willow Ufgood from Willow. I wanted a woody name (keep the comments to yourselves, thanks).

My current DnD character is "Jarka Ruus" which was taken from Terry Brooks latest novel which you can see on the Strategy First, Disciples 2 board.

T-D-C 10-29-2004 05:40 AM

I wish I had an interesting story.

My user name is just my initials.

Legolas 10-29-2004 05:41 AM

I can't quite recall.

Xen 10-29-2004 05:41 AM

I just made it up. It sounds cool to me.

lost prophet 10-29-2004 07:02 AM

i got mine from an awesome band i like, its kinda RPGish i supose but i like it cos its kinda....depressing in some kool way.

absolutly pathetic hey.......

valknova 10-29-2004 07:04 AM

i did an acrylic painting 10 years ago, with all these robotic-looking Valkyrie angels exploding out of a psychedelic blue frozen supernova, in the icy torment of deep space. Then I got unbelievably loaded on vodka shots, and called the painting 'valknova' .

Dirty Meg 10-29-2004 07:04 AM

I first came to this Forum to ask for help with BG2. Since I didn't think I was going to be staying long, I just typed in my own name, with 'dirty' in front of it. If I realised I was going to linger about, I would have thought of something better.

Kakero 10-29-2004 07:08 AM

I got mine from the anime called kickers. I first use it in irc and icq, then use it on 3do community board, then here. In other forums I use different names.

Hivetyrant 10-29-2004 07:10 AM

A Hivetyrant is a giant "bug" from Warhammer 40K, its one of the best warriors in the Tyranid army.

Thanks Kak, I always wondered. Hey dplax what about you? I hope some of my Wizardry 8 buddies catch this too!

Jaradu 10-29-2004 08:13 AM

I can't remember too well where mine came from... I think I made it myself when I was thinking up random names for my Elven Ranger in BG2.

SomeGuy 10-29-2004 08:15 AM

I was trying to be funny. I'd probably change it to something Penguiny if I could

Iron Greasel 10-29-2004 08:19 AM

A greasel is a mutant creature from Deus Ex, something you would get if you crossed a raptor with a chicken.

The iron part found its way here from a finnish Star Trek parody, where there is a ship called "Iron Pidgeon". The movies are a lot funnier if you are born in finland and/or are really familiar with finnish.

Bozos of Bones 10-29-2004 08:27 AM

LOL @ Legolas! :D
I'm just your standard Chaotic Good Necromancer with an aptitude for the melee arts. It's also a derivate of my first name, Božo(kinda hard to explain how a 'ž' sounds like...mix 'z' and 'j').

Attalus 10-29-2004 08:54 AM

Attalus is the husband of the heroine in my wife's novels. I do play RPG's with that is my name, but she came up with it.

Bungleau 10-29-2004 09:18 AM

Mine stems from the first thief character I played in a CRPG. I figured he'd bungle everything he tried (as most low-level thieves do), but I didn't want to just call hime "Bungle". So I frankified it by changing the ending to "eau" (the French word for water).

I've used it here and on the old 3do boards... that I can remember

Larry_OHF 10-29-2004 09:29 AM

I used to just be Larry, but when we moved to the brown forums Rikard asked all members of the Order of the Holy Flame to add "OHF" to their names because Ziroc had the ability turned on where anyone could change their log-in name for the period of about a week. Me, Ertai, and Rikard were the only three to do so, I think. Now Ertai is gone, Rikard reregistered after being gone for a long time, and I am stuck with the OHF tag by myself. I have been thinking for a long time about asking Ziroc to get rid of it for me, but it has been such a long time that everybody associates me with the OHF. So maybe I should not drop it.

Lost Prophet's Used to be good. They were an amazing band. And then, they jumped on the band wagon and started making crappy emo tunes like 'Last Train home'. Shinobi Vs. The Dragon Ninja was amazing.

Beaumanoir, is the name of a brand of Wine... Nice

Attalus 10-29-2004 10:05 AM

I thought your name was Binky. Are you trying to get the O.R.T. going again? I've heard Piestrider and Galadria speak fondly of it. What with Larry and the OHF and Sigmar and the HADB, are the clans getting back on the radar?

Skippy1 10-29-2004 10:24 AM

I'm a Kangaroo! What else would I call myself????

No, a few of the others did it as well. Ziroc restored most of the old usernames after a week, though.

Kaltia 10-29-2004 10:37 AM

*Is going to see the Lost Prophets in concert in two weeks*

*Is ineffably smug*

*Got her name from a really lame character she made up. The character got trashed, but the name remained*

Gangrell 10-29-2004 11:51 AM

I made a lot of characters up in various RPGs, Gangrell was the name of one that came from Bg2, a wizard slayer and eventually the character found its way into the story I'm writing.

Blind_Prophet 10-29-2004 12:21 PM

I just came up with it For a diablo2 account name and then used it on iw and i thought it was kind of funny the thought of a blind propeht a contradiction if you will.

Aerich 10-29-2004 12:37 PM

Character from a book, one of my favourite books of all time. Phoenix Guards by Steven Brust. Read it. :D

Edit: shameful when you have to edit a one-line post for clarity, but that's what this edit is for.

Exactly the same way I got my name :D

RoSs_bg2_rox 10-29-2004 01:09 PM

I don't really like my name tbh. I am just called Ross on other forums, or R-D-L, or Ross.D.L

Unforutnately some guy (no not someguy :D ) with 2 posts has the name Ross, and I wasn't thinking R-D-L at the time, so I just made this crappy name. I did actually ask for a name change a while ago, but then it wasn't possible, it seems to be now though, so maybe I should give Dan another pm.

Raumiel Hellilenda 10-29-2004 01:09 PM

I made up my name myself...it happens to be the name of my most recent character. Not an elf like the countless others I have made, but rather a half-Erinyes. (I felt like something different)

I thought it was a Drow Priestess who ate her own young at crossroads and sacrificed to Lloth every full moon. Or maybe that was Shadowkat.

My name is Dave. I am a quack. Hope this helps clarify where I got MY name :D

Lucern 10-29-2004 03:08 PM

"The lucern hammer is a hammerhead with a spike at its rear, mounted on a long pole, reaching as much as ten feet in length. In some cases, the end is fitted with a spike to keep enemy soldiers at bay. It is one of the heavier pole weapons and is rather slow. The entire weapon is usually made of steel, including the pole, and often is decorated with carvings and precious metal gilding...The lucern hammer gets its name from the Swiss city of Lucerne, whose armories were well stocked with the weapon, so much so that scholars named them after the city."

Cost: 7 gp Weight: 15 lbs size-L Type P/B Speed Factor 9 Dam: S-M 2d4 L 1d6
(This weapon inflicts double damage when set to receive a charge)
- AD&D Arms and Equipment Guide for 2nd Edition

That's right
<----Nerd. lol
I basically just stole it playing Silent Storm trying to think of a name for an Axis soldier. I realized shortly afterwards that it's a city and part of a weapon.

Can you believe it has only as much damage as a broadsword? Even less for large creatures? *grumbles*

Jaradu 10-29-2004 03:27 PM

Lucern. I know what it's like to think up a name and find out afterwards that it actually exists - "Jaradu" is in fact an Egyptian Airport. :D

Stormymystic 10-29-2004 04:28 PM

I really am not sure why I choose this name...but I did choose stormy because I tend to have mood swings that range in the lightning coming out from my eyes ;)

Sigmar 10-29-2004 04:52 PM

Sigmar- Been a while since I played Warhammer...but...

I believe he was the Patron God of the... not the Bretronnians..the other humans, can't remember >_< !

I'd change it to Cypher if I could, though I didn't do it back when Ziroc offered us the chance. Ah, well, I'm an idiot! :D

Lucern 10-29-2004 05:22 PM

lol Jaradu, that's really funny. At least I ended up with a midieval weapon, not something weird like an airport

Works for an elven warrior or mage though I must say.

SecretMaster 10-29-2004 06:13 PM

Well lets see, I originally joined IW for BG II help. But I was watching the BGI forums for awhile. I chose SecretMaster cuz I knew of all these neat tricks and spoilers in BG, and thought I was the only one. Most knew the ones I knew, but I still retain a few original secrets from BGI.
