gaming has come far sooo much in ten years! imagine what it would be like in another ten years. i reckon we won't be playing the games, we'd be living one like a virtual reality! man that would be fun, you can fire a weapon like a real machine gun at the age of 6! cool im getting me some of those aye!

I wonder if playing games such as a future Doom in a virtual reality enviroment will be good for your mental health.

shadowhound 10-26-2004 08:41 AM

Stratos: Thats exactly what I was thinking, I mean yeah I would definatly enjoy a fully interactive 3d world first person shooter... but could certain people handle it?

Hivetyrant: Well of course I did, but you know kids these days

In the future we'll all be playing simulations of our lives.

...the only difference being that we'll need a lot more quarters :D

In fact, it'll be even easier than ever not to meet a single person and just sit at home on your tuckus all day long...alone, and overweight....

No thank you! I prefer my interactions to be with other people instead of machines, regardless of how introverted I am!

how would first person shooting effect your mental health?

Sigmar 10-26-2004 09:55 AM

Same way watching a movie would want to make you burn down your house I suppose! :D

Have you ever played doom 3? Some of the voices and sounds you hear are pretty creepy.

burnzey boi 10-26-2004 10:06 AM

what about in the future there is doom 7? whoa that would make you hide in the closet for the day! lol! ive heard that som1 used need 4 speed to steal sum1s car and run off. crazy!

I read a big article on games affecting your health, and it said that games such as Everquest do actually give off seemingly big effects, especially to people who play them all the time. Playing FPS games and games such as Commandos it is also proved, will make you look behind you more etc.

It was a very interesting article, however it was a few months ago I read it so I will try and dig up the link for you guys.

in the future, games will probaly be of the same quality (maybe a little beter graphics and smoother) but on smaller console, much like gameboys, so that one didn't have to be home all day playing. one could be anywhere playing, and everything would be wireless, so you could play against someone in china from maine without any wires, or outside devices, though that might be quite a few years in the making.

Imagine playing a future war shooter similar to, say, Call of Duty in VR with the potential level of immersion it could offer. It would be close to being on an actual battlefield. It takes training to remain cool in that enviroment, especially when you see your buddies blown to pieces around you.

Now, imagine Doom 12 in VR enviroment.

I've actually thought about this alot and I've come to a conclusion. One day the Human race will be nothing more than puddles of ooze in machines that do all the work for them...

Kakero 10-26-2004 08:48 PM

Should be nice if one day you can play a game where you can feel and you can touch. imagine that. wooooo...

Wow this is all so very interesting...I've never thought too much about this topic before, at least not too much, really boggles the brain...

All that virtual reality talk reminds me of the "Tom Clancy's Net Force" books I used to read. And those took place in 2010...(the future is near) ;)

burnzey boi 10-27-2004 04:52 AM

yeah but all those games dont have to be all blowing up (although it may be fun:)) it could be golf or that play station game where you hit things in the screen. you can also play as that yugio guy versing all those geeky ppl like pegasus.
