I have just started playing these D&D type games and had some questions i wanted to ask. I have just bought Baldurs Gate II + ToB and played right through the game and had a lot of fun. I was wondering if any of the other games on this forum (Icewind Dale NWN etc..) follow the same storyline or are they completly different games? I ask this because I saw screenshots of Icewind Dale II and noticed it had the same graphics as Baldurs Gate II.
My other question is, what other games that are like Baldurs Gate would you reccomend me buying? Thanks |
I would suggest buying Planescape-Torment, it kicks ass.
Icewind dale, uses the same engine and graphics but is slighly different in storyline. NWN is completely different, graphics wise and story wise, but both are very good games(although I havnt really played Icewind dale) |
Hi Luke,
Welcome to Ironworks! The good thing about alot of the games that you have mentioned is that they are made by Bioware. BG2, Icewind Dale 1&2 are all good games. BG2 is great for its story as you ahve already started seeing. Icewind Dale is more focused on hack n slash as there is no party interaction (you create the entire party yourself) If you can find it Planescape: Torment is a GREAT RPG. infact I just recently sold my copy of Planescape to the the above poster. Check the bargin bins in your computer stores and you should find it. NWN is the next step in gaming. It has great graphics and even better Multiplayer capabilities. The NWN Platinum pack has just been released so I recommend that you get that and join us online in our home made mod Escape from Undermountain. |
if you want post-nuclear its fallout!!! get fallout 1 and 2!!! its a great game !! :D .
it reminds me of jeramiah which is a new series in the US. do any of you guys know this? its pretty interesting indeed! |
WOW, T-D-C, I never knew that you became a Moderater, damn..I suppose I have to treat you nicely now :( :D

I strongly recommend Wizardry 8 as well. It's different than the above mentioned games in that "it's better" IMHO! I'm a big fan of turn-based combat and this game gives you that option. It is first person instead of top-down perspective. Graphics are nothing short of excellent. Read some of the posts at the Wizardry 8 forum, here at Ironworks!

And no, unfortunantly I havnt finished it, im stuck at the damn Pillar of skulls:P |
I was going to put some money down on them on the weekend with my works gift vouchers but decided to buy myself a playstation 2 with lots of games.
|
Have you played BG1? If not I would recomend it, if you can adjust to it from BG2. It has lower graphics, less depth...ect. But still a classic.
Too bad you already played BG2 that is my favorite game and the one I'd recomend first. I also recomend the Icewind Dale Series, but I'm warning you it isn't as good as the BG Series so don't get your hopes up. Very similar in some ways though. |
I agree BG 1 is also a great game to play if you haven't yet. Planescape Torment I'd say next, classic game. Icewind Dale is good too, but really heavy on the combat and not as much storyline, so I find it hard to compare it to BGII. It personally was just too boring and frustrating for me. NeverWinterNights is a good game, albeit different in that you do not have a party, just your character and a hired NPC that you have very little control over. Diablo II is also a really fun game, not like BGII, but just really fun (again you are a single character, no party, but can hire people, although they die a lot and don't return, unlike in NWNs). Sacred is also like Diablo II, but looks much better, another fun game.

Yeah, but when they die, they drop their stuff, and most of my charcaters have full inventories..
*Damn, I knew I should have sold some crap |
BTW, what did you give to the pillar?
|
Ummm, I told them where the long-named guy was, but thats it. I already knew everything else, and I didnt want to give up my Modron cube :D , or Morte.
|
wow... y'all's scared him off.
|
How 'bout Annah or Grace then? :D
I gave it 15 hp. I'm kinda Lawful Good at the moment, And I'd like to stay that way. Besides, that demon was nice to me. Okay, he didn't really have a choise but I felt a little bad after taking all his stuff. Besides, I don't need the hp, I'm a mage. |
Heck, give it the Modron Maze. What do you need it for? I don't recall any difficulty at all at that stage of the game, but then I was 30th level when I got there, as were Annah, Grace, Morte, Nordom, and the Gith, whatshisname.
|
The Modron Cube is funny. And a fast way of travelling. And I fear to imagine what the Pillar would do with it.
Now, as you have already completed this part of the game, please tell me where to find Trias (the deva) in Carceri after Curst has slid over? |
I thought you needed it to get the Modron NPC...
|
Get Planscape: Torment. NOW!

Well, I never went to undersigil, and the only casualty has been The Nameless One who died once in Baator. And I've found Trias once, I'm talking about the second time after you return from Baator.
