I think it's about time MLB did SOMETHING with the Expos...shoulda moved 'em last year. DC looks to be the best deal of the bunch. But for Gawdsakes, DON'T call 'em the Senators again! :cringe: |
::reads only topic:: The Expos? Does that mean Manatoba will be without a basketball team for much longer?

Performance won't improve! ;)

If they can finally keep all the players they lose to free agency they will be a really good team. Their farm system produces some of the best players around and then they can't resign them. Some of the ones I'm thinking about - Vladamir Guerrero, Larry Walker, Moises Alou, Pedro Martinez, and a bunch of others I can't remember right now. |
What a shame. I know some people from Montreal who are very dispointed by this.

The best -- or worst -- part is that nobody around here even cares. Everyone, if they like baseball at all, are big Orioles fans within at least 100 miles of the D.C. / Baltimore area...
|
And being an Orioles fan, isn't much reason for joy either. :D

I'm glad they're moving. I'm a Mets fan, and I'd like to take a short road trip next year to DC and Philadelphia to see my Mets in these parks. |
Are they goign to change their name from the expos?
|
There isn't any official announcement yet, Jotin, but they really should change their names.
"The Expos" is a title centered around an event in Montreal. It just isn't right to use the same name for a franchise now located in Washington, D.C.. |

Peter D'Angelo, the owner of the Orioles, had lobbied Bud Selig to keep this from happening for a long time, complaining that it would eat into his fan base. For the past two years the Expos have been playing 20+ home games in Puerto Rico. How in the world is that fair? Makes it real easy to keep a fan base interested.
Exchange rate differences and MLB accounting have made it hard for the Expos to compete in a league without a salary cap. Add in the fact that to many big leaguers, Canada is not where they want to be (and neither is KC, much as I love it here, so don't think I'm throwing stones) it was only a matter of time. I think it's too bad when franchises move, even if interest wasn't high. We could lose the Royals eventually as well. I would love to see a salary cap/ salary minimum. I think it could solve some (not nearly all) of baseball's problems, but the players union won't allow it. Their greed could kill the sport. |
I wish there were a cap. We wouldn't be seeing the same AL East teams in the playoffs every year if there were a cap.

I heard a great suggestion for the new name of the Expos on CNN this morning. The guy was saying that they should recycle the uniforms and call them the
"SExpoTs" Just had to LOL because of the prediliction of politicians to chase the skirts... |
