Wow. That was the WORST hurricane I've been in. It went over us, and we lost 3 BIG limbs from the big tree in front. In the Eye, we all went out, and found that next door, a huge tree is SPLIT down the middle, but hasn't fallen over. 3 Houses across from us lost loads of roof shingles, and more stuff.. at the end of the road, a firetruck was blocking the main road because a HUGE ass old elm fell across the road. Some moron was trying to drive under the tree in his van, I have it all on tape. Making THIS video available today..

Very scary this time... CONSTANT gusts of 80-90mph for 4 hours... we shut down the server and pc until it was all over, because power blinked and dimmed all day. Never lost it, which IMO is a miracle.

Well, lets hope this was the last one. I'd say you guys had enough for the remainder of the decade.

Stormymystic 09-27-2004 04:45 AM

Glad you are ok, was worried about you all day not knowing if things were ok or not

The Hierophant 09-27-2004 04:49 AM

Glad you made it through OK Ziroc! Fingers crossed that you've been through the worst of this psychotic weather now

Kakero 09-27-2004 04:59 AM

Glad you made it Z. Hope that is the last one.

Mack_Attack 09-27-2004 05:25 AM

Sounds like a big storm I am glad things are all right.

All makes sense now why IW was down. :D

T-D-C 09-27-2004 05:46 AM

Good to hear that all went ok and that your all ok.

Looks like Chocs Protective magic worked again!

Bungleau 09-27-2004 06:48 AM

Glad to hear you made it through safely, Ziroc. And having seen some of the images from FLorida this morning, I'm impressed to find the boards up

Memnoch 09-27-2004 06:58 AM

Glad to know you guys made it through unscathed, mate - these 'canes just seem to be visiting you one after the other...

Cloudbringer 09-27-2004 07:09 AM

Wow! I was wondering if you were one of the million they say is without power now. Glad you're all ok other than some poor trees being ripped apart!

dplax 09-27-2004 07:31 AM

Glad you made it through safely Z. I was reading about the hurricane on CNN and BBC and when they said that some homes could be without power for three weeks I started thinking that we would have to miss IW for a long time. It's good to see the forums back!

Jorath Calar 09-27-2004 08:15 AM

Glad you are okey, lets hope they are done now...

Cerek 09-27-2004 08:35 AM

This is why you need to move to temperate North Carolina. No Hurricanes, No tornadoes (at least not in the last decade or so), no extreme weather of any kind.

Highs in the upper 90's during summer and lows usually in the 20's in winter. Moderate snowfall (if any) and some heavy T-storms are about all we have up here.

So don't wait until retirement. Beat the rush and move from Florida to NC NOW!!!!

Seriously, I'm glad to see you can through this storm relatively unscathed. I haven't been in contact with VulcanRider yet, but he just recently moved from Lakeland to Melbourne - which sounds like it put him right in the heart of Jeanne.

I hope he and everyone else from Fl is doing OK after this latest storm.

They superimposed it next to hurricaine Francis and the two were identical!

Dave_the_quack 09-27-2004 09:10 AM

Yeah, I was really freaking out for all you guys over there when I couldnt access IW. I figured that you had turned the power off... but seeing as you didnt need to for the other ones... *shudders*

Glad everyone is ok. HOW IS CHOC?

Timber Loftis 09-27-2004 10:02 AM

So, your house ended up okay, right, Z?

Attalus 09-27-2004 10:21 AM

Glad you all made it through all right. Five hurricanes in a rowm wow!

LordKathen 09-27-2004 10:24 AM

Glad to see all is good, mostly, Dan. Cloudster, disregard the PM over at The Silver River. ;)

Ilander 09-27-2004 10:56 AM

Shoot, I am officially relieved, now...Louisville is STILL pretty, weather-wise, Dan! You're still welcome ;)

Anyway, yeah, how did your house fair in this one? ::hopes for a negative on damage::

Ivelliis 09-27-2004 11:09 AM

Glad your ok Z, hope its the last of the hurricanes!

RoSs_bg2_rox 09-27-2004 11:49 AM

Glad your back and all is well Dan. You just made my day.

Stratos 09-27-2004 11:51 AM

Glad you're OK, Z.

Now, about that video clip... :D

Bozos of Bones 09-27-2004 11:55 AM

I know that moving would mean more off time for IW, but man, move out of that place! It's just not a good atmosphere for you, so ride the winds of change. Man, do I make bad puns or what? Anyway, glade to see everyone OK after this! And yeah, where is the clip?

Morgan_Corbesant 09-27-2004 01:15 PM

Z, you should move Seriously, I'm glad all is well. I just have one question...how has Choc held up during this weather?

Elif Godson 09-29-2004 03:53 PM

Anyone hring in NC ? :D

Lady Sedai 09-29-2004 08:54 PM

Awww! My poor Orange-boy is tired of getting battered by bad weather.

Well, Elif...if you promise to drive like a sane human being with some sense, I'll make an exception for "Florida drivers" and let you come to Georgia.

;)

Seriously, though...that's been a bad turn down there and I truly do hope that all my friends and family down there came through it okay. I haven't heard from everyone I know in Florida yet, but I keep hoping all is well.

And I wouldn't blame any of you living there for wanting to go ahead and get out of the state since all this has happened.

Probably not much that would interest people here in the mountains. We are very rural and the nearest "big cities" are all 2 hours away (Atlanta, Chattanooga & Knoxville TN, and Asheville NC).

Of course, there are larger cities. Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Raleigh and Durham (Research Triangle - lots of "tech" jobs there), Fayeteville and Wilmington come to mind off the top of my head.

Asheville isn't really very large - but it's the biggest city in the western end of the state (where I live). Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Greensbore are in the Piedmont area (middle of the state). Raleigh, Durham and Fayeteville are towards the east and Wilmington is on the coast.

The funny thing about NC is that the Piedmont area often gets the worst weather. Our winter here in the mountains was relatively mild last year (lows in the 20's; highs in the 30's and 40's). I run the Purchasing Dept of my hospital and have to unload all of our trucks by hand - but I only wore a coat to work about 6 times last year. The rest of the time I just wore a sweatshirt with a regular T-shirt underneath. Meanwhile, my friends that live in Charlotte and surrounding areas got BLASTED with two major ice storms and some of them were without power for almost a week.

You HAVE to like a slower pace of life to live in the mountains. Many people come here and are horrified to learn the nearest mall is over 100 miles away. Wal-Mart is our biggest store in town, but the internet does help bring the world closer (through forums like this and for buying stuff not available around here).

The upside is that our crime rate is relatively low. We do have our share of drug dealers and the like and there have even been a couple of "gangland style" murders that the police believe are the result of disputes between drug dealers and some of the people selling for them. But there are still plenty of people who leave their doors unlocked at night and even more who leave their cars unlocked when they go into the stores.

The weather is fairly nice all year round (though I would personally like to see more snow) and the people are some of the friendliest you will ever meet.

Just depends on what you're looking for. ;)
