Isn't it cute! My friend Em and I were pulling into her road and this whippit was just standing there on the side...no collar. About two other people stopped and we all wondered who it belonged to...so, rather then let it get run over or eaten I took it home. We've called the papers and the 3 vets here to tell them we found it. Doesn't have a microchip either.

If no one claims it in like a week (or the animal shelter suggested 4 days) I get to keep it

johnny 09-20-2004 05:34 PM

Ooooh...Whippets taste great on a hamburgerbun with some onions and mayo, can you send me some leftovers in a doggybag ? :D

johnny, johnny, johnny...
Cute doggie, Lady Blue!

Does that mean that if the real owner turns up after 8 days you won't give it back? I can see a 10 year old crying her eyes out at the loss of her pet.

pritchke 09-20-2004 05:54 PM

Look it over for tattoos!!! Some breeders use registered tattoos to identify there dogs, usually found on the underbelly were there is less hair. Nothing beats microchipping even though it is a little expensive than getting tattoos.

As for the claiming if someone does not come around to the animal shelter within 7 days I doubt they are looking very hard unless the dog originated from another town or city and traveled a fair distance, or was abducted.

edit: and nope, it has 0 tattoos. I think it's spayed as well...will have my aunt (she's a vet) look at her when i get back from class tonight

Awwww, so cute Lady Blue! You did the right thing taking it home, so it is safe and not getting injured by wild animals or run over. Not much else you can do but advertise in the paper and talk to local veterinarians, except for putting up flyers, which is illegal in some places. Always a possibility too that it is not a lost dog, but somebody just dumped it on the side of the road (people always did that sort of thing where I lived while growing up, grrrr!).

Lady Blue03 09-20-2004 06:26 PM

Ya, I considered the possiblity that someone dumped her, but I doubt it. She's clean, well fed, house broken, and very sweet...anythings a possibility though. She does bark a lot, but I'm already teaching her not to and she catches on quick

Mack_Attack 09-20-2004 07:16 PM

How the hell did my dog get there so fast. :D

Kakero 09-20-2004 07:46 PM

That's a cute dog, what breed is it? btw, if you are planning to keep it. Take it to the vet and give it some medical checkup, they probably give it some injection ( heartworm , rabies etc etc )as well.

Wouldn't that make it obvious she belonged to someone else then?

Felix The Assassin 09-20-2004 08:36 PM

Geez, and here I thought all this hype was over the green froggie. ;)

Gxc 09-20-2004 08:47 PM

I dont like puppies, but older dogs are calm and very nice usually. That dog looks calm to me (very cute).

What scare me with found animals is that there's always the risk that eventually you'll run into the old owner while on a walk or something.

What do you do then? That's a situation I wouldn't like to be in.

Lauren 09-21-2004 01:59 AM

Awww, isn't that such a beautiful dog.
Awwwwwwwwww... I can't stop saying it, it's just so darn cute.
I hope you do get to keep it Lady Blue, it would be nice to have such a wonderful companion.

quietman1920 09-21-2004 09:46 AM

Looks like a greyhound. In my experiance, they are the nicest, most meek, of dogs. Of course, you just can't ever let one off his/her leash outdoors in a non-fenced-in area as you'll never catch them (and I don't care if you're Flo-Jo...you won't catch them).

Dog tracks are notoriously cruel, so if you can take in a dog, you should try to save a greyhound.

carry a led pipe, or teach the dog to hate the old owner

but seriouisly, i doubt that after a while the owner would recognise it, nor it the owner.

Intrepid 09-21-2004 09:50 AM

p.s. wow!
those eyes.....
those ears.....
awwww, how could you not love that?

Lady Blue03 09-21-2004 12:29 PM

It's a whippit...mini grey hound

And the owner just came by and picked her up. I knew anyone who cared about their dog would start looking for it right away She called the vet I went to yesterday this morning. Apparently the dog busted out of a screen window and this hasn't been the first time. The owner was ecstatic to have her back ;) And I was happy to give her back

Good for you, Jen. The happy ending, for everyone concerned.

Ilander 09-21-2004 02:15 PM

Cute dog! I'm glad it found it's way back to its home...It's a bit of a cruel fate for a dog to get out, get lost, and get into trouble....

Let's face it...dogs AREN'T the brightest of creatures...They can't help the urge to run around and it would be a shame for one to get hurt because of it.

LordKathen 09-21-2004 02:57 PM

Right on Lady Blue! Good job. You did the right thing.

I've never seen them get tattoed on the underbelly before. Only seen it on the inside of the ear, 2 of my dogs have that because they are registered pure breds.

Stormymystic 09-22-2004 10:14 AM

I am happyu things turned out for the best for the puppy, she is so cute and I agree you did the right thing. I remember when we were supposed to be dog sitting, and wound up the owners did not want him back, but he would get out and take off all the time, and we would recive calls on him because the old owners gave the vet our number. after the last time he took off, he killed a bunch of prized fighting chickens. and there was no way we could pay for them. the pound had him, they called me to tell me it would cost $50 to get him out, and we could not pay. they called on the last day to see if we wanted him, I was crying because I thought they were going to put him down. but turns out they had about 15 people who wanted him and were getting tired of waiting, lol. so it turned out for the best for him. he was a blue eyed black husky. and was very good with children, the only reason I did not like him is he did not take to my cat :/

/)eathKiller 09-22-2004 05:10 PM

It looks albino. Isn't it?

Stormymystic 09-22-2004 05:13 PM

no, I don't think she is, see the patch of brown on her?

Dont get too emotionally attached just yet... or, alternatively, if you come to love him/her.... paint her fur with black spots so the people who come looking wont recognise

Diabolical, I say. That is, until, the doggie runs in avid excitement towards its owners when called. That would actually be embarassing. On second thoughts... leave the paint in its tin.
