This is just a thread to post what errors or troubles you have experienced when updating to Service Pack 2 for Windows.

1. Pop-up stopper and Sound Blaster start-up splash screens are slower.
2. Broadband Network (Router) had to be updated for functionality.
3. Links were alphabatized.

That's it so far.

thank goodness I'm on linux :D BTW I was watching the errors list and did I understand correctly that except for a few everything was an 'error' cause of the firewall that would be implemented? Doesn't seem like an error to me just configuration of your stuff

My people have been running into some of the strangest things since SP2 was distributed.

1. Inability to authenticate on recognized remote domains.

2. Various slowing in graphic rendering.

3. The usual, random crashes seem more abundant.

The hardest part is recognizing how much of this is SP2, Windows in general, and my imagination...

Personally, I'm going to wait a month or two before deciding whether to update or not. Atm, as I have a firewall, anti-virus, two pop-up stoppers and a couple of malware cleaners installed and regularly updated, I really don't see what I need SP2 for.

Arvon 08-24-2004 01:15 PM

Haven't got it yet. I'm waiting a few weeks till it's been out for a while.

Hey! I have a Windows-Based Pop-uip blocker now! I'll just delete Pop-up stopper.

It said i had too recent a version of Media Player?!! lol. I have had to install a more un-recent (is that a word?) update. Now explain how that makes sense

Well Im with Mouse, Im just gona sit it out and wait for a while. There is no real need for me to get it now since I have a hardware firewall and 2 software firewalls, 2 malware cleaners and popup blocker etc. Might aswell wait till all the bugs are ironed out.

If you have any Symantec Software then this page will give you a little idea of what it may do to you.

http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/sp2/faq.html

Other than that I'm going to wait a month or so until the bugs are ironed out.

Somebody please tell me - in the webpage http://www.muonline.com/ under Dowload > Graphic Driver there's something called VIA Service Pack. Is this what you're all talking about?

I'm asking because my computer became slower and more bugged after I installed it. :(

Luvian 08-24-2004 06:00 PM

No, they are talking about the new update to Windows XP.

Same here.

I think Ill wait, another funny thing is that you are able to install it to a Pirated copy of windows, which was supposedly impossible with service pack 1.

Bozos of Bones 08-24-2004 07:38 PM

...supposedly..!
I think I'll have some fun installing this, and counting the bad points.

Animal 08-24-2004 11:47 PM

After doing a fair bit of research, I downloaded and installed it yesterday, and everything is running quite smoothly. The PC takes a little longer to boot now, but that's okay.

I like the itegrated firewall that's active immediately upon boot without the wait for a third party one to load. Even though it's only a couple of seconds, it's still a couple of seconds that your PC is vulnerable.

So far, no software problems. Overall it looks very positive, and if I do have problems SP2 can always be removed from the Add/Remove Programs app in the Control Panel.

Well, I'm off to test some more apps. I'll keep everyone posted if I encounter any problems.

Well like most people here I will wait... I'll have the gurus share their opinions of the prog and all.

Ronn_Bman 08-25-2004 09:40 AM

I think it comes out for XP Pro today(25th), but I'm definately waiting this one out.
