My year ran out on my work PC, so I just ordered Norton 2004 Professional Edition. Well when I went to install it, it said it recognized a previous version of Norton (I had the 2003 on there still) and would I like to switch, I of course clicked YES, and it loaded. After the restart, I got error boxes, with links in said error boxes. Went to the links and it mostly told me that I did not get a successful install, and I needed to uninstall the previous version first, then re-install. Sigh.. So did it, then got the same fishing error box, this time with a different error number, but also a link with it. So I clicked on link. It said that the Windows Auto Update is the problem, you know, when you have it set on your PC so any Windows Critical Updates come along, it will automatically notify you.. Anyways, so I have to now uninstall, once again, the new Norton and also uninstall the Windows Update thingy. Blah! Much time later, after many restarts which took forever (old suck PC, crappa dial up at work too), I was able to start fresh and finally got the new Norton on there, and also re-installed the Windows Auto Update.
What a pain in the butt though! Just wanted to post this because maybe some of yall's registrations to Norton are almost up, and wanting you to know what types of problems you may run into upgrading the dang thing! [ 08-17-2004, 09:03 PM: Message edited by: ladyzekke ] |
Wierd! I've never had much problem with re-installing good ol' Norton. I did get a notice right at first that I had to uninstall the older version.
|
Well I reinstalled/reloaded completely and still got the error. I will say though, not only did I have a Windows Update feature, but it was needing me to update as well at the time. I wonder if it wasn't having the Update feature, but having it when it was currently needing to Update? It could have been that, but who knows. Again just wanted to mention it.

Have you trie to ask the Norton folks about the problem? maybe a good idea LZ, but i hope you get it to work asap

You'll hate to hear this LadyZ, but the paid subscription is not needed. You can DL the virus definitions off of their site directly. You just have to remember to do it your self. You can even DL a newer AV engine as well (provided it works with your version)

My norton has expired quite sometime before. haven't renewed it yet.

Norton works fine for me

Never had any trouble updating Norton on any of the 3 machines here at my home. Sorry to hear about yours. Best of Luck.

Funny.
I don't use any anti-virus software except the online one. (housecall) |

As for you LadyZekke, try this. 1 Uninstall NAV 2004 Pro using Add Remove Programs. Or you can have a look at this document. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...11011006?Open. Also if your having problems installing a new software package you may want to call Tech Support. They should be more than happy to help you install. 2. Download RNAV2003.exe from the Symantec Website. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...114452606?Open 3. Run it and it will remove all prevoius files from NAV 2003 that may be left over. 4. Restart the computer 5. Install NAV 2004 again. If you have further troubles can you PM me the exact error message you get and I will have our tech guys look at it. (P.s I work at the Symantec Sydney office so I can do it pretty quickly for you ) [ 08-19-2004, 08:36 PM: Message edited by: T-D-C ] |
I re-subscribed without any problem but I didn't 'upgrade' the program so I don't know if I missed out because it just worked ok or I didn't have to do what you did, LZ.
Glad you got it to work, finally! PS, Very nice of you to help out, T D C! :D [ 08-19-2004, 11:03 PM: Message edited by: Cloudbringer ] |

If anyone has a problem with the Symantec/Norton range let me know I will be more than happy to look into it for you. I was in Tech Support for a while before moving into Sales so i still should be able to help you out. |
Norton updates may be a PITA sometimes, but they are definitely worth it.

Don't worry Ladyzekke I know how you feel when comes to installing things on your computer... and I know what it's like trying to network two computers.
It's a disaster... error error error error... restart... install.... error error error error... restart... uninstall... link computers... install... error erro error error... restart... uninstall... connect to internet... install... Lol yes that's what happens when you try and network computers. |
Oh no, I guess I did not make myself clear, I loaded it just fine eventually that day, after all the problems I had. But thank you so much TDC for your instructions, must have taken a bit to post all that, thank you. So Norton Professional Edition is now on there at work just fine now, I just wanted to rant about my troubles somewhere mostly LOL. Yes, I know, I could have just updated it online, but it was at work, and my boss is kinda reluctant to give up his credit card number, so I just decided to order it when ordering office supplies LOL.
Now, Zone Alarm Pro is going to expire in September on my work PC, so I guess I'm GONNA have to make him give up his credit card to re-register it. Not incase they sell it in stores now, which I've never seen as of yet. EDIT: Oh yeah, Lauren, try downloading stuff with this shite Verizon dial up, it takes hours, and sometimes just cuts out, out of nowhere, for no reason, just to mess with you I think, somebody somewhere is really laughing evilly, I hate whoever they are, damn them to hell! Oh sorry, *cough* Nice to see you back Lauren. [ 08-20-2004, 09:48 PM: Message edited by: ladyzekke ] |
I saw ZoneAlarmPro on the shelves at CompUSA last week, LZ. You don't necessarily have to download it.
|
Really? OK, that's cool then. I'll check out Staples first, then Best Buy (same shopping center) and see if I can just buy it then with a company check.
I just bought the newest version of Zone Alarm Prooo at home, including the "suite" version, which includes antivirus software, IM protection, and I think it said it helped protect spyware as well. Will let everyone know how it goes. |
