Does anyone ever get confused like ok why did that dude just stab his own brother inthe back or why do they have to train so hard or any questions like that just ask and i'll tell, afterall its my way

Dreamer128 08-05-2004 07:49 PM

I'll be sure to keep that in mind DrowArchmage. Nice to have a resident specialist on the Drow.

Illumina Drathiran'ar 08-05-2004 07:59 PM

Um.. All right. And I'll watch my own back.

DrowArchmage 08-05-2004 08:00 PM

resident specialist? sounds good

Arledrian 08-05-2004 08:01 PM

LOL, I love this forum, it's nuts.

DrowArchmage 08-05-2004 08:02 PM

Thanks

Illumina Drathiran'ar 08-05-2004 08:02 PM

::can just see conflict brewing::

DrowArchmage 08-05-2004 08:04 PM

Well, for one thing, Dreamer goes by the name of Velkyn, and prays to Ellistrae all the time... Oh, and he keeps a picture of Viconia at his bedside.

DrowArchmage 08-05-2004 08:20 PM

yeah?

Larry_OHF 08-05-2004 08:45 PM

How did you acquire your knowledge on this particular race, and what prompted you to be so studious on them?

That is question number 1 from me.

DrowArchmage 08-05-2004 08:49 PM

My stepfather gave me my first Drow book when i was 11 "Homeland"ever since then i have been studying them with close friends.i mostly looked them up on the internet or read about them in books, i have read every book about drow that have been created even the new series.

Larry_OHF 08-05-2004 08:53 PM

That's really cool! The guy that was going to become my stepfather before he got killed in a car accident gave me my first FR novel, and it was Icewind Dale...the first book I ever read in my life.

So let's see...I will assume that you agree with the way R.A.S. has put them to life on paper...but do you agree with what Elaine C. did to them in Evermeet?

DrowArchmage 08-05-2004 08:55 PM

yes i agree with salvatore but no to Elaine

Larry_OHF 08-05-2004 09:24 PM

Thank you.
I am sure that you see my reason in asking.

Okay, then if not going by her story of the creation of the drow, and the stories that followed, what is the best source you have discovered and what caused the drow to turn to a matron-driven society?

Ilander 08-05-2004 09:27 PM

umm...yay drow???

I dunno, guys...the only dark elves I've ever been exposed to are the moredhel of Feistland...and I'm not sure of the difference...but hey, huzzah for D&D...bringing people together, in progressively more wierd ways...!...?....

shadowhound 08-05-2004 09:47 PM

How could you not love the drow society? The constant paranoia and betrayal make it a truely interesting species, and the fact that females are in control of the race is something different in a D&D setting.

Anyone else find it odd that the race with females in control are mainly evil? :D

Not at all! :D

hey...on the RP forum, there is a guy that uses a drow sometimes as the shape his dragon takes in humanoid form, but he said that he did not learn of drow through FR.

He also said that the drow he knows of does not have to be dark-skinned. So...what are other drow stories about?

Yeah, some are albino I think.

Bozos of Bones 08-05-2004 10:12 PM

IMHO Drow are dark-skinned or albino, never brown, only monochromatic. I like Drow. They rule. And I love the posibilities of RPing a true Drow party in the Underdark with Drow characters and NPCs and all. I like insidious plots and schemes.

Dron_Cah 08-06-2004 01:07 AM

I dunno, but they make fun pin-cushions in BG2.

Check sig, or maybe my post history. Either way, I'm teasing.
(And yes, you could interpret this several ways.. all of them apply, I think)

*hides crosbow behind back and grins at Drowarchmage* hush Attalus, you're making it very hard for me to eliminate the competition ;)

J'aran 08-06-2004 12:25 PM

There's nothing a Drow ever did in D&D which hasn't been done before by a human in reality.

Meditate on that one for a bit. :D

Jonas Strider 08-06-2004 12:46 PM

What I don't understand is, why are they dar-skinned? They should be pale since they're not exposed to sunlight thus the melantonin isn't activated. And on why females dominate are evil, don't know why. I always thought they should be do gooding, spellcasting masters. It's the male society that should be dumb and malicous yet learn to be mature and good when females are around. Oops! No flames please. Just a tought. BTW I'm male. If if weren't for the women in my life, I'd be grunting like a Neaderthal and anti-social.

Dron_Cah 08-06-2004 12:51 PM

Well, I'm not, and there's not a whole lot of females in my life. ;) (Grunt) Me know more than womens! (grunt)

I think their Dark-skins were a punishment from the gods, after they've lost the war against the other Elven races. As for females.. they're just an evil subrace of humanity ;)

Being an unshaven, unwashed, rude caveman is something else entirely than striving for world domination by applying fire and sword to any who oppose. And women can be powerhungry, manipulative devils just as well as men, if you ask me. Only difference is that they're more subtle about it mostly.

Sorry, you know how us Paladins are. :D

Cloudbringer 08-06-2004 03:00 PM

Just finished Evermeet a little while ago. How does her version of the Drow creation vary from others?

Except cast globes of darkness or unholy curses granted by a spider goddess.

Edit- I forgot to quote.

Bozos of Bones 08-06-2004 06:26 PM

Chics are bad because they answer to Lloth(Lolth for non-drow), and she's the evil spider queen. Or, the men are in charge in an equally evil but somewhat more free but very pro-war and conquest of surface Vhaeraunian religion. The good Drow surface-dewllers forsake these two for Eilistraee, the naked dancer, daughter of Corellon. There's more offcourse, but the detail are too fine and I'm not meticulous enough to mention that here.

DrowArchmage 08-06-2004 07:06 PM

thank you Dreamer128 for answering the question about the dark skin. And to you Bozos of Bones the drow males call Lloth or Lolth it all depends. Sometimes she is called the queen of the demonweb pits, but she is known as the spider queen.on the surface the drow are called Llothites.and to drow in Ched Nasad{which was destroyed}or any other drow city {except one}females rule.now there have been rumors whisperd in my ears that the males will try to take the power from the females now that the pristesses and Matron Mothers {all of them}have lost Lolths favor

Bozos of Bones 08-06-2004 07:28 PM

You mean Rilauven? And aren't Drow on the surface called Ilythiri?

SomeGuy 08-06-2004 07:29 PM

Once I lead my penguin army to victory over the surface world we will proceed and take over the underdark as well! We shall see how the drow fair then. And once the underdark is finally our's, we shall move on to the Nine Hells and take it over as well! The time has come humans! Prepair yourselves! Muahahahahhahahahahahaha!

Attalus 08-06-2004 08:34 PM

All right! This skit has now gotten officially silly! ;)

shadowhound 08-07-2004 09:17 AM

I also would love to play in the role of a drow (I have always had a weak spot for evil plots and back stabbing), oh and ignore the insane penguin army overlord

Attalus 08-07-2004 10:32 AM

Galadria did a great game a couple of years ago in RP where we went down into the Underdark to rescue Viconia's brother. Velkyn was there. ;)

Dreamer128 08-07-2004 10:36 AM

He was a horrible character back then. Too nice ;) We should play a new game sometime, Velkyn has gotten far more vicious since then. :D
