What game do you think would be better?
and whats less laggier if you played any on a dialup |
i reckon its a but unfair when we all know IW is a dominated WOW place .
|
Aww harks, are you gona be outnumbered?
Well I gotta say WoW simply because I am a huge WC fan and it r0x0rz! |
I'm one of the everquest players here myself, i even love the warcraft series, i'm just sticking with EQ for my MMO time
|
Did you even try WoW?
How do you know EQ is the best mmorpg for your playing style if you don't try the others? |
i was on the Wow beta, eq was just for me, i havne't played city of heroes :( so i'm really just comparing eq and wow and eq is more to my gaming style
|
I'll take the road less travelled and say they both suck.
|
COH is great btw!
|
Haven't played either. And, Luvian, it might get a bit expensive, if you try out every game. ;)
|
neither get counterstrike.. no stupid fees or anything and plus it runs smooth on almost any computer.
|
Well, besides the fact that games like EQ and WoW are totally different than online shooters, I don't think counterstrike is anything to tout as the pinnacle of online gaming achievement... I got Counterstrike : Source when I pre-purchased HL2, played it online for a few hours.
In a word: Boring. Just your typical twitch shooter, no planning, no strategy, no tactics... just run as fast as you can and shoot anyone wearing the other sides uniform. Sure there's SUPPOSED to be stuff each side needs to do, but the game timers never really give you enough time to do it... out of the dozens of games I played every single one ended with one or the other side wiped out... there's a name for those sorts of games... team deathmatch, and that game was getting tired already when I was playing online a lot. Back in my younger days I got off on online shooters (Doom, Doom2, Quake)... but not anymore. Heck, for that matter, mod's like Threewave's Capture the Flag for quake were quite a bit better than counterstrike... team deathmatch is a crappy redundant boring game type. Maybe if they didn't have the 2 to 3 minute match timers there'd be enough time to do some planning... but I didn't see any planning on the servers I played, the level designs I saw were pretty rudimentary also. |
I'm officially in love with everquest, did you see that you can sell 1 gp for 50 bucks on ebay right now? ridiculous, i need to get some more and think about a few sales
|
I am a DAoC player, tried everquest, its pretty but not for me. Wont be trying WoW, read all about it and how people rave about it, but no thanks. To much time in Dark Age, dont feel the need to level up in a new game, plus the PvP in DAoC is head and shoulders above the rest, simply because the others dont have it. Well WoW does, but since I wont be playing it, I reckon I will never know.
CS is fun until you get that one idiot in your group that keeps killing you, or is just plain stupid!! Timers can be a bear in the game as well. Grenades can be your best friend, I took out a whole team with one once, I never laughed so hard. |

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Guild Wars is better than both.

Guild wars looks good but I dread going back to non-p2p games. I know, I thought I'd never say it but having GM's policing games is a godsend. I came from NWN's online which was absolute hell for hackers, griefers, kids etc. I also fear that since Guild wars is PVP oriented it will attract most of these immature children who think they're 'l33t'. Owning a credit card really does serve to seperate the idiots from the adults (for the most part). So....I'll hold out on Guild wars until I get some opinions.
|
You can't force other players to PvP in Guild Wars Spirit, the PvP and PvE parts of the game are totally seperated although you can use the same characters for both.

What character did you end up playing as? In beta I really liked horde, but I might play alliance. |
I played the beta for wow too, Tauren here. Are there an equal number or horde and alliance players now?
I've been too busy with eq2 to know what the deal is |

Although I am a solid Warcraft fan and WoW fanatic, I will say this right now.
At the moment, EQ2 is much better than WoW. WoW is an unfinished product. There is nothing truly unique about this MMO right now, and even though it is selling like wildfire it is still not the all time best selling MMO. Hell, the difference between PvP and PvE is practically nothing. The fact is that Vivendi (Blizzards owner) was pushing WoW for release at the end of fourth quarter so they could get holiday money and such. Blizzard didn't want to, but Vivendi pushed them. Blizzard intends to add a lot of features and content via patches, and then we will see if it is truly a unique MMO. But right now, it looks like a solid, standard game. Nothing more, nothing less. |
So is EQ2 SecretMaster, I didn't see them implement anything unique either.
But we're talking about MMORPGS. They hold back content on purpose for the monthly updated and expensions. I think we can only really have this discussions in a year after both games have released their content. I know I can't wait for the Battlegrounds. Tried both of 'em and have to say WoW hands down. First impressions of EQ2 was...well...that it's ugly as hell.
All these potentially system-hogging graphics and the zones really looked bad to me. I love the bright colors in WoW. Everything is so vibrant. I mentioned this to a friend the other day and he said "I think EQ2 just looks more realistic". I thought about it and responded "If that's reality then why are you playing it?". First team impressions, people were very rude. Yes, yes I know, you can't judge simply by a handful of people but when you risk your neck to keep someone alive and they then make off with all the dropped and spawned loot and promptly quit the team without a word, it doesn't leave you wanting to team again. And yes, I know there are looting settings but I was a lowly noob and they knew that. I gave it a chance. I rolled 3 chars on EQ but after 1 week I gave up and went to WoW. Was blown away really. |
I was simply shocked at the fact that you have to pay monthly fees. lol.
Can't get my head around that and so, I'm not playing any mmorpgs. Although i was looking at Everquest 2 for excellence, but WoW for my humble computer specs. |

WOW's graphic may at first glance seem older, but it's not so. There are tons of details, way more than you could put in a more realistic game. With everything maxed the game can even slow my P4 3ghz with a GeForce FX 5200. |
I was really only comparing it with Everquest II which i heard was more taxing on the comp.

You put it at minimum, and you have a decent looking easy to run game. You put at maximum and it's awesome. I like games like that. In my opinion, if a game can't run smootly on a 2ghz, then you are a failure as a programmer. |
