the original thread is here

the previous thread is here:

Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

Cloudbringer 06-30-2004 11:30 PM

 PLEASE NOTE

This is a modified reminder that I've posted before in reply to someone asking "can we spam the cafe". It still holds true, so I'm going to repeat it periodically for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Read the first post of the thread, it's NOT a spam zone. If you want to discuss you grades, a problem with a teacher, the weather, your neighbor's new car etc.....etc.. (real life conversations) this is the place. I don't mind a SMALL amount of spam but when the Cafe gets to be 8 pages in one day and it's all one liner pure spam, I have to ask people not to do it because most of the members who would come to talk about their day or things that they want advice or sympathy or cheers on, will not post in that atmosphere. I want you to be comfy here, but not at the expense of other members.

So the answer is NO, I don't want to see page after page of roleplay spam or one liner spamfests that could be done on msn or aim etc. because our goal is to TALK WITH one another , not fill up a cafe in five hours. ;)

Cloudbringer 06-30-2004 11:32 PM

Hello everyone! Cookies and hot chocolate on the counter, help yourselves! We've got chocolate chip, butterscotch oatmeal and sugar cookies. (Think I'll be making those at home, for company actually. We've got the makings, I just need to get the energy to bake!)

Bungleau 06-30-2004 11:40 PM

First post!

*edit* Okay, my life is now complete. First non-Cloudy post in a cafe...

Evening, all... preparing for vacation next week, which involves driving from the north of the US all the way to the south. With both kids. While remaining sane... I hope

Roughly a thousand-mile trip over two days... and the same back again in a week. We loaded our ammunition tonight... new games, crafts, toys, and so on that we can spring on them through the trip.

Plus the plug-in TV/VCR so they can watch stuff. Hours upon hours of videos... :D

Gangrell 07-01-2004 12:56 AM

Hey all, just got back from seeing Spiderman 2, awesome film and kudos to Alfred Molina for doing a great job playing Doc Oc.

Well, I'm tired so I think I'll head off to bed, night everyone.

--- just as a side note Cloudy, the 'original thread' doesn't exist anymore. Or do you already know this but keep it as a sentimental thing and for not realizing such I'm an uncouth philistine? ---

SomeGuy 07-01-2004 08:05 AM

*yawn* Good morning everyone. *eyes twitches, blinks a few times* Normally, I'd be sleeping a good 4 more hours, but noooooo I have to weedeat the yard, which means I have to be bothered by the smell of freshly cut grass, the morning dew, and gasoline. And it takes forever, I need to find a way to make it into a game. When I get out of this house I want a SMALL YARD!!!

Bungleau 07-01-2004 09:30 AM

Heading down to Gulf Shores, Alabama, Stormy. The tri-ennial family reunion is upon us again. We rotate it around to different parts of the country, and the Alabama contingent was responsible for this year. We go down for a week, see all sorts of family, and then go home

Hopefully, a few more fun things happen along the way too :D

Dragonshadow 07-01-2004 09:41 AM

Don't we all. i'm hating teh duration of this clocks project... which I shoul be doing now... better go.

Cloudbringer 07-01-2004 09:43 AM

Hiero, it's there...but the url may be changed, it's in the archives. Or it was last time I checked which was earlier in the year...hmm...will have to check again!

Bugleau: Have a good, reasonably sane trip! Can you hear the 'are we there yet?!' or the "I have to use the bathroooooom!" chorus in your head yet? ;)

LOL Cloudy! Actually, I'm expecting lots of "my bottom hurts" and "can I have a drink?" :D

And thanks, Stormy. I've been down there a couple of times, but it's been almost fifteen years since the last one, I think. I plan to relax...

Elif Godson 07-01-2004 11:25 AM

Good luck B, I did a road trip with my little ones about a month or so ago and it went resonably well. Ages 9, 2, and 1 all got along well. Drove for 10+ hours on the first night until my 2 year old got tired of being confined to her car seat and threw a major tantrum, in which it upset my 1 year old son so much he started to hyper ventilate so that ended the first days travels. Day 2 went much better for the remaining 8 hours of driving. The return trip was able to be done in about 22 hours due to various pit stips and meal breaks, go fig. I had my laptop with a dvd player installed in it, but we never used it, hehe Sang a few songs, listended to a lot of music and did various other things to keep the children occupied. My 9 year old was just happy to see Mountains and a big change of scenery, that and she wrote in her journal documenting are trip. It is interesting to read about our trip from my 9 year olds perspective. G/l and remeber cruise control is your friend, hehe

Beats 'he's touching my stuff' and 'make her move ooooooooooover!' or 'quit it quit it! LOL! Now if you were taking the family dog, too, you'd have a bonafide 3 ring circus! :D :D I remember our family trips fondly, but then I was one of the kids, so I wasn't the one driving and having the back of my seat kicked or trying to get the slurpee or jujubees off my neck! Happy trails! :D

Bungleau 07-01-2004 11:35 AM

Thanks for the thoughts, Elif. And you reminded me of something -- I'm bringing my laptop, which can double as a DVD player. I hadn't considered that...

And Cloudy, our family pets are hermit crabs, so they don't do a whole heck of a lot ;) No circus opportunities there, unfortunately.

Countdown is commencing... T minus 41 hours, 30 minutes and counting... :D

Cloudbringer 07-01-2004 01:26 PM

*wonders if the hermit crabs would wear little hats and snip at unruly children on command like the circus performers * :D Sorry! I got this sudden image of little hermit crabs in clown hats jumping through hoops on command... LOL

Bungleau 07-01-2004 01:46 PM

Hmmm... now *there's* something to start training 'em for... :D

Both the kid-snipping and the circus, that is.

Cloudbringer 07-01-2004 01:56 PM

Hehe..if you ever did train them, you'd be able to quit your day job and go into business in Hollywood or at least Barnum and Bailey's! :D

Morgeruat 07-01-2004 02:05 PM

Bad news, Ruby just found out that her cat Dexter died three weeks ago. When we moved the place we decided on didn't allow cats, so we had to find him and Lightning (his kitten) a temporary home, with car problems, financial difficulties, and poor communication on both sides we weren't aware of it until today, I found out less than an hour ago, and we haven't seen the poor guy since the night we dropped him off. :(

Stormymystic 07-01-2004 02:25 PM

:( she is just not having a good year is she? hope she well be ok, I know how hard it can be, what about the kitten though? is he ok?

Stormymystic 07-01-2004 02:27 PM

on a brighter note....I did find a very good use for this wrist brace :D I do not have to fight so hard for room on my side of the bed at night, if he tries to push me out, I just roll over, and accidently hit him upside the head I am bad.. I know it

RevRuby 07-01-2004 02:42 PM

lightning has been beat up by some weiner dogs, we decided to bring her home. the rental people have never been in here and don't even enforce no outdoor cats on our neighbors.

i'm going to send nathan to work on tuesday with pics of my kitty to scan so i can set him up a web page. t.c. had one sorta, but i never could finish it and now most of his pics are gone. but dexter will have a proper internet memorial. i miss him so much!

please if you're going to get a pet adopt from your local humane society. we got dex from one here in pa.

Attalus 07-01-2004 02:44 PM

Good afternoon, all. Pretty day, here. Galadria's Aunt Kate died today, age 91. Rest in peace. I have been over a the Bioware site, drooling over DragonAge. Reminds me of the wait for Neverwinter Nights.

Cloudbringer 07-01-2004 02:57 PM

So sorry to hear about Galadria's aunt! May she rest in peace.

wellard 07-01-2004 08:54 PM

My thoughts and best wishes to Galadria, Attalus

Note to Clouds and all Oasis members... Ive not forgotten you all, just having all sort of problems posting. I'm sure the problem is with my PC

Hey Bungleau

My Son got his first ever 'real' pet last week for his birthday. Someone bought him a hermit crab. He calls it Herbie :D We are finding out the best way to keep him happy so if you have any tips let us know. Enjoy your holiday!

Ilander 07-01-2004 09:18 PM

Well...taking care of kids is not something I'm genuinely prepared to do...I've heard the words "uncle Lyle" SOOOOOOOOO many times the last three days, and I'm babysitting again tomorrow...All the parents on this forum have my utmost of respect!

Bungleau 07-01-2004 11:23 PM

Peace to Galadria, Piestrider, you, and the rest of the family, Attalus. It's never easy, even if it's expected.

And Wellard, I've gotta warn you... Hermies are social critters, so you should anticipate that Herbie's going to get a roomie in the future... fortunately, they're not expensive. Their equipment, however... let's just say that you save a lot by not having a pet

They like to climb and crawl around. Make sure Herbie's got lots of shells to choose from (at least 4-6, different sizes and shapes). Humidity is also important, as is temperature; they need it warm and humid (min 70F and 80%).

They also can't handle chlorinated water, so you'll need to make up some non-chlorinated stuff. We keep it in a spray bottle and use it to mist the tank (keeping humidity up) as well as refilling the water dish.

We're on a couple of Yahoo groups (hermit-crabs101, and another we just joined that escapes me). Lots of folks are into it, and some are really nuts (20-30 hermies in their households).

Let me know if you've got questions. I'll answer what I can, with my four months of hermie experience :D

Stormymystic 07-01-2004 11:31 PM

I almost bought some..but why pay for what you can catch at the ocean? I used to have a few that I threw back into the water, did not know you could keep them as pets at the time my kids want one, but I will not get it for them yet, perhaps in a few years, but I want to get me some more fish before I get a crab :D
