Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

Aerich 06-23-2004 04:16 PM

Ate my lunch outside in the rose gardens of the "wooorld famous Empress Hotel." World famous prices perhaps. But the rose garden is nice, and free.

Stormymystic 06-23-2004 04:20 PM

we might be getting my youngest stepdaughter home for the 4th of July! we priced a roundtrip ticket from Sacromento to here, the cheapest was $394.00 if we can help her mother out, she will send her home on the second :D

Aerich 06-23-2004 04:26 PM

That's good news, Stormy How long might she be able to stay?

RoSs_bg2_rox 06-23-2004 04:38 PM

Stormymystic 06-23-2004 05:20 PM

er!!! anyway, I am still waiting to find out if we are going to get her next week or not, so far things are looking good I have to go to the girls school tuesday to have a 6 month recap on them, what fun that will be, yes the girls are in a day care/pedeatric school to help them improve. since Skyler was a premie, and both were under weight, the doctor feels it will help them. they seem to like going, and I get most of the day off :D

Aerich 06-23-2004 07:02 PM

By how much was Skyler a premie and underweight? Reason I ask is that I was both as well. Five weeks early and about 5.5 pounds (now I'm chronically late and 170 pounds ). No problems now, but apparently I almost suffocated because my lungs weren't developed enough at the time of birth.

Not sure if you're worried about the premie/underweight thing. If you are, try not to be. It shouldn't be anything to worry about. But daycares are helpful, as they are often good for giving kids a head start on dealing with other children.

Have a good time, Jen. Have an Old Timer for me.

Attalus 06-23-2004 07:07 PM

Hey, that was me. As you might have guessed, Piestrider is with us for the summer. :D

Stormymystic 06-23-2004 07:10 PM

Skyler was 6 weeks early and wieghed 5 lbs and 3 ounces, Caleb was worse though he was born 16 weeks early and only weighed 1 lb 14 1/2 ounces

Mack_Attack 06-23-2004 07:10 PM

I did not think A 5.5 pound baby was a premie. We were told anything under 5 pounds. But I guess it would depend on the development of the baby.

Well I am so sore from doing all the sod work yesterday. I can hardle bend over and put my socks on. LOL

Aerich 06-23-2004 07:14 PM

Maybe I was 4.5 - unaccountably, I cannot remember...

Stormy, your kids were EARLY! How old are they now?

Stormymystic 06-23-2004 07:17 PM

caleb is 5, almost 6, skyler is 3 going on 30, and destiny is 2 going on 40 ;)

it does depend on the delvelopment, skyler was ok, but she had a few problems keeping her temp up when she was an infant, destiny was on time, just a little under weight, but she was really long at 21 inches

RevRuby 06-23-2004 07:21 PM

actually weight has NOTHING to do with premie. a premie is born before 37 weeks gestation. small or not.

:D i keep having 40 weekers tho (BIG KIDS!)

Stormymystic 06-23-2004 07:24 PM

I could not even imagine carrying a baby to 40 weeks, it was hard enough with DEW at 38 weeks :/

Lauren 06-23-2004 08:54 PM

I was a premature baby, and a zazerian one at that...when I was born I was very blue, and I wasn't breathing, so they had to put me on a respirator...and now because of that, I get asthma :(

Stormymystic 06-23-2004 09:03 PM

I am sorry to hear that lauren, I know a little about it, caleb was like that :(

Nerull 06-23-2004 09:51 PM

I was one of those 40 weekers. The day before they were going to induce my mother, I came out. From what she told me, I tore her up something fierce on the way out, too (they didn't give her a C-section, she didn't want it...she told me she would have had one looking back).

RevRuby 06-23-2004 10:12 PM

hey miss lyn did that to me nerull, cept two days before induction. i had three tears, but i would never replace the quick recovery of natural labor with that of a c-section

Stormymystic 06-23-2004 10:12 PM

I got my pain meds in tonight, and the pharmacy messed up big time :D in my favor of course, I have 5 refills on them before december, lol

That was her whole reason for going all-natural. :D The problem is she had trouble healing, so she ended up taking longer than normal, and was in a good amount of pain (even with the painkillers).

Well Stormy, sounds like you are all set up there! :D

Stormymystic 06-23-2004 10:36 PM

I had all three of mine c-sections

vesselle 06-23-2004 11:45 PM

my brother was a premie. 7 1/2 weeks early and weighed 2 3/4 lbs. my mom said she delivered him on the gurney as they were wheeling her into the delivery room and she didn't even KNOW he'd been born! lucky thing a nurse was watching her like a hawk. my dad said he could put him in the palm of his hand for the first coupla months.
my bro stayed in the hospital for that long. :(
he's now 6'4" and weighs 235 lbs. :D and healthy as a horse. never gets colds or had any of the childhood things (measles, etc) or anything.

but he does LOVE to dawdle. i think he thrives on dawdling.

V***V

Stormymystic 06-24-2004 12:04 AM

at least he is healthy now I am greatful that my son is growing, he does have asthma, but other than that, he is well..he spent the first 7 monhts of his life in the NICU. the little squirt would scare us to death by pulling out his feeding tubes, and kick off the moniters, he also extubated (remove the resporiator) himself on a regular basis

I did not know there was a link between the two. It's amazing how Australia is the asthma capital of the world. My son Martin has asthma too, so I found out some stunning facts about the number of young Aussies that have it.

Stormymystic 06-24-2004 12:09 AM

I think it is more frequent in the new generations, I know alot of people who have young children that have asthma now, when it was less heard of when I was young, my brother has it, but not me

wellard 06-24-2004 04:05 AM

I give in..... I'm of to bed, curse these night shifts. Its 6pm down under :( but I will probably just sleep for an hour or two then be awake all night/ morning.

I hope everyone else is feeling more alive than I.

johnny 06-24-2004 04:13 AM

Not really, but i think i'm going out for a couple of sixpacks later on, for a little after-celebration. I had some things to do downtown, but it doesn't seem to stop raining here. It's been pissing down non stop for 3 days now.

Nerull 06-24-2004 07:38 AM

Heh...it's supposed to rain here through Wednesday at least (they only show out to 7 days in the future, but each days shows "Scattered Thunderstorms").

Morgeruat 06-24-2004 09:48 AM

i have not been able to watch the weather, hey cloudy what am i in for here in pa?

i am tired. pink eye in at least 3 of the residents of my home. fun fun.

Stormymystic 06-24-2004 09:50 AM

wow, revrubuy told me that Carol has it too when I spoke with her last night :/ my kids wanted to talk to her destiny got on the phone and told her she was nekkid then told her she was too cute :D Caleb told her he loved her, lol..my kids are rotten ;)

Dragonshadow 06-24-2004 10:52 AM

Hi guys, how are you all?
Very strong coffee please Cloudy, to calm my nerves.

Jorath Calar 06-24-2004 11:06 AM

Ah day of, rain outside and nothing to do, so I'm lying in bed watching Seinfeld and Duckman on the computer... eating pringles and drinking soda...
it doesn't gt much better... :D

Anyone noticed that Cornfed in Duckman sounds exactly like Max Payne...

RevRuby 06-24-2004 11:26 AM
