This may have been asked already some time ago. If so, forgive me for not looking through dozens of old posts...

I've noticed that some people have interesting/cool/clever/obscure names. I'd like to know how and why you picked them.

I picked "Aerich" because that's the name of my favourite character from one of my favourite books of all time - Steven Brust's "The Phoenix Guards". Aerich is an ultra-laconic, thoughtful, observant, Zen-like warrior. Don't ask me how the name is supposed to be pronounced. I generally go with "Air'-itch" as I believe the author is not so lame as to pronounce it "Eric" and just change the spelling.

I didn't pick anything, my parents did. :D

I developed a fantasy comic for me and my friends. Jaradu was one of the main characters, an elf who fights with fists and magic. I've changed him now, he's more of a ranger-guy encouraging justice and righteousness throughout the lands and stuff.

Nope, it was forced upon me. :D It could be worse though. if i had parents who would have taken one hit from the bong too many, it could have been Moonchild or something, in which case i would have made an alteration or two before i introduced myself here. [img]graemlins/hehe.gif[/img]

It's my real name.

It was the same as my AIM id and email address, and I didn't see the point in changing it.

My first Forgotten Realms character I made 12 years ago was a Ranger called Jorath Calar. i used it as my characters name when I began playing Baldur's Gate 1 andsince I was looking for info on BG2 when I registered and couldn't find a decent name... [img]smile.gif[/img]

Are you sure you didn't live in The Hague in the Netherlands ? That would explain your name fairly logical. :D

'uss' most probably means nothing to you, since it' means 'worm' in Estonian. I picked the most random of random names, since I was going to lurk for info about BG2. That was a long time ago. Even my hotmail address is ussimees(Worm guy).

Wonder if I'd change the name if I had the chance..

Illumina Drathiran'ar is the name of one of my oldest and most beloved characters. I started out with her playing DnD but have since used her to help me write several fantasy stories.

It's the political capital of the Netherlands, which you might also have heard of owing to the fact that the International War Tribunal holds court there...
Dronkah could be seen as Hagueish dialect for inebriated. ;)

i have honestly no idea really. i just picked hark .. than added liar. harkoliar.. actually my name before was zoratorak (which is even wierder) came from Zedd Zorander in the Sword of Truth series. ahh love that wizard.

did a little directory search .. dang he is still here.. i lost my password years ago when my hotmail account became invalid for unknown reasons. oh well. I did ask Z ages ago if he can delete that account. (you still can if you want to :D ) as you can see with his member no. 61. i did practically transfered from the old blue board. ah brings back memories.

At the time my son and I were watching a lot of Spongebob Squarepants, I just had to make it sound tougher so I added TheDestroyer only I made a typo or it had too many digits, I can't remember.

My is from a russian revolutionary song, that has a line: "the white army and the Black Baron want to force on us the tzar again".I am not a tzarist, i am antikommunist, so i picked that one. Additionaly BB was the nickname of highly toxic gas, used in ww1. There are several more BB's in history and all of them naughty.
