the remote that came with my cable is giving me problems, my dvd player ( a cheap one from wal-mart) is not listed for it, so I went with the closest one, and it works, sort of, but instead of the play button playing the movie, it stops it, the rewind fast forwards, the number keys control the play back options, and the 9 key is enter, the 3 is volume down, the 5 is menu, now this is not right, lol, my problem is, I have run every search I can think of to try and find how to fix this problem, and the instruction I recived told me to turn on the power, press the set up, and when it flashes, press the aux key, then press the power off button till it shuts of, will that will not work, all my dvd player does not have a power off button, it has a standby mode, so I tried folloing other instructions, and press the play key, still nothing worked, but this is the best I can do, any ideas on it? I searched the company's web site, but found nothing there about it, and frankly, I am tired of having to run through the number keys to find the proper keys to make it work

So it's not actually the proper remote?

And you're wondering why it doesn't work properly? :D

You just can't seem to get anything straight, don't you ?

Now be honest... you came out of an egg, didn't you ? :D

Stormymystic 05-27-2004 09:21 PM

uh no, I was found under a rock ;) seriously though, it is one of those universal remotes, supposed to work for "any unit" yet not mine and animal

You just don't know how to work it properly!

Stormymystic 05-28-2004 12:55 AM

uh huh, that has to be the problem, seeing as how there is no match for my player and all  I have it working remember? just not like it should be, but seeing as how there is no code for it, I think I did a pretty good job with it

When I've programmed those universal remotes before, I occasionally had to try multiple codes before I got one that worked. You might try other codes for your DVD player brand to see what happens. You might also check to see if they have a web site where there might be an updated list of codes as well.

I just reread above, my dear, and NOWHERE does it say that there is no code for your brand. It says there is no code for your player, which I took to mean the particular model of that brand.

So if there's nothing listed for the brand at all, you might try to figure out who actually makes it and then look for a code for that brand. Most appliances today are made by a handful of companies and labelled with different brand names, so your model is probably there, but under a different brand.

I'd drop an email to the company's support folks and ask them what code you should use... they'd be able to figure it out, I bet

As punishment, your husband should be made to get up off of the couch and act as the remote! :D

what? him move? the only time he moves is to go to work, or when food is ready for him, any other time, he sits there, even asking me to get him a drink while I am busy with house work, yard work, and every other "womanly" thing ;)
