i have a ranger that is 18/98 with a total of 93 points to distribute... is it possible to get 18/00 with 95 points to distribute?

That's just ... not possible ranger have high minimum's for everything Charisma, Wisdom, and Constitution. My highest roll was 64 on a human mage I still don't understand how you did that.

Rolling a 90+ stats total isn't too hard with a Ranger or Paladin since they require such high minimums on their attributes. 96 is the best I think I've ever rolled, with a Paladin. Getting a good roll AND 18/00 STR is another matter though. I would be very satisfied with 18/98 STR and 93 point total http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

BTW, for a mage it might be easier to obtain higher rolls with a race other than human. Elves for example have higher DEX and CHAR minimums than humans do. Regardless of class and race though, with 5 minutes re-rolls anyone who wants to should be able to get their stat totals at least in the lower 80's.

The highest total I ever rolled was a 97 with a human fighter, later to be dualled to a mage. It took me a couple of hours and since then I've never been so patient and have never come even close again. The odds of rolling that with a 18/00 are probably more unfavorable than those for winning a million in the lottery. If you really want to have stats like that just use a program like Gatekeeper - it will save you a lot of time you could better spend on the game.
Remember this is a game and you are the head umpire in it, whatever you feel comfortable with is "legitimate".

Kormar, how the heck did you roll that?!?! That's insane! How long did it take? I wish I had could have gotten a roll like that. The character I've gone through the game with is rather pitiful stat-wise but still very effective somehow. He's a Half-Elf Fighter/Thief with 66 point total.

I managed to get a ranger with 92 points to distribute and he ended up

18/(70+ i think)
19 dex 17 con cant remember rest.

i also got an evil fighter with 93 points to distribute she got

18/ (less than the ranger for some wierd reason)
17 dex 19 con

My character from BG the first time through had a total of 92 points, though only an 18/52 strength. But the strength didn't matter, as the strength raising tome makes it a 19 whether you are 18/01 or 18/00http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Of course, she was a paladin, which is pretty much the easiest class to roll high numbers with, thanks to all the high stat requirements paladins have.

Don't see why not. You can get ability scores of up to 21/22 in BGI without gatekeeping.

My record is 91 with an elven fighter, I rolled for hours to get that. UNFORTUNATELY, the computer crashed while I was distributing the points http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...les/mad111.gif . I gave up and havent had enough patience to get more than 88 since.

My best char was human fighter 18/98, 18, 18, 8, 7, 18. I figured he must've been a gladiator - rather dim and unwise, but very charming, strong, tough and agile. With some spellup he took out the whole basement of AecLetec cult alone, wielding spiderbane

Just last night I rolled up an elven mage-thief with the following stats:

STR:12
DEX:19
CON:10
INT:18
WIS:18
CHA:18

To date she's got the best stats of any character I've yet rolled, and it only took me about 30 minutes to create her.

i rolled 18/00 with a fighter once... i had to kill dex but later made up for that with gauntlets of dex and the tomes.

I would have modified that taking 2 off intelligence and placing them on Strengh.

My Cleric/Ranger rolled

That's a total of 91 which is nice I could have rid of my INT to add to my CHA but I heard there's a enemy that can take advantage of that in BG2 and I may import him into it. 18/00 STR, it actually just appeared there i didn't have to modify it.

I'm new to BG1; but, have played AD+D for over 20 years. I find that if you are playing one of the fighter types, It is always better to sacrafice high total points for that 18/00. It really kicks! I have a tank who is a dwarf because you can have the 18/00 and get a 19 con. A dwarf can only have a 17 dex. and 16 chr.; but, I think it is worth it. When I roll a lot, I just focus on 3 slots and if 2 look good, I stop and check the % on the str. and the total count. You can really fly this way; though, after a while, I feel like a disgruntled postal worker. Keep rolling until you are satisfied; or, you will regret it later. You can't go home again.

97 with 18/97 on my second roll is rather nice. Planning to import him to BG2 soon.

The best fighter or fighter sub type I have ever rolled was a Ranger with 96 points to distribute. In my opinion though, the best character I have ever rolled was a Transmuter with 95 points to distribute. There is nothing like a mage that can also get their hands dirty.

I once had an 18/00 fighter/thief with 18s everywhere except int and wis (8 and 13 respectively, I think) I later boosted these with tomes and backstabbed my friend in an online game (he started a killing spree in Candlekeep, Prologue and I got pissed off). Roleplaying as an assassin, I drank a Potion of Invisibility and backstabbed him for 148 damage!!! BWAHAHA!!! He really was freaked out on the other end.

I cheat this much: I removed the experience cap. I think it's stupid, I don't think it should be there, I downloaded Capkill and got rid of the damn thing. Or, at least raised it to the maximum in Tales of the Sword Coast, I'm not sure. Anyway.

As soon as I hit Level 6, I added my new weapon point (for 3 each in Large & Small Sword), and immediately Dual-Classed to Thief. I had her read the books of Strength, Constitution, Intelligence, and Charisma. When she hit Thief Level 7, I had all her Fighter-strengths back, and she was Thief Level 9 by the time we got to the final battle....at which point she had all this:
Strength of 19
3 weapon points in Small Sword
Short Sword of Backstabbing
Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise (Her THAC0 was something like 3)

Not only that, but when she comes out of a backstab, she's already wearing her Full Plate, for an armor class of -9, and not only THAT, she's also wearing the Boots of Speed, which means she can whip away, come back, and do it AGAIN! And AGAIN! This girl is MURDER! Truly fitting, considering her parentage....

My current character, a CG Ranger, has the following stats:

STR 19 (was 18/54)
DEX 20 (was 19)
CON 18 (was 17)
WIS 15
INT 14
CHR 15 (was 14)

These are current stats, and include the benefit of a few tomes (all except INT & WIS which I gave to others iirc).

Took me about 30 mins to get the total I wanted, then I redistributed the numbers.

My fighter who's going to dual to a mage at level 9 later:
Str: 17
Dex: 18
Con: 18
Int: 18
Wis: 13
Cha: 10

i got a Fourth level mage but man are his stats crappyand what are those number on a fighter when you reach 18 (ie 18/91)
