(Ziroc here) Go to the 7th page of this thread, and you will see that the MS browser may be causing your connection. I say MAY. MS has released NEW patches and CRITICAL fixed just now (at 10:00 EST on 13, April). Run your windows update, and install these, as not just for the possible IW fix, but for new backdoors they found in the sloppy Microsoft code they call an OS.

IW is up and down like a whores drawers. I know for a fact I'm not the only one. Taken 2 hours to get back in. Sometimes I can get in whilst people I'm talking to can't, or like tonight I can't get in while my friends in the USA can. Bloody weird and more than a little frustrating

Lord 12-27-2003 01:59 AM

I get that too, often. IW won't load for about 5-15 minutes, but then it'll work again. I really don't mind much, but sometimes it gets annoying.

Charlie 12-27-2003 02:08 AM

Yeah, tonight I was trying to get a PM sent to a friend, write it, send it.....nope. 15 minutes later, re-write, re-send....nope. Now I'm getting pissed because it was important to me to get it sent before said friend went to bed. So what happens? Usually 10 - 20 minutes as you say, tonight because it mattered to me it took 2 long hours, and was sent obviously too late and undoubtedly with my frustration rearing its ugly head in written form.

EDIT...Yes "Often" being the operative word.

It happens to me all the time. What I've found that seems to work is to log off the internet then log back on and then I can come right back to IW.

Charlie 12-27-2003 02:18 AM

It used to be so reliable, 100%, even with heavy traffic. I don't mind it going down now and then, just always seems to happen at the most inopportune times and it's terribly regular now unfortunately. :(

shadowhound 12-27-2003 02:23 AM

I have not had any problem, IW is always up and running as far as I can tell.

Must all be in our imagination then.......

Stratos 12-27-2003 02:29 AM

I haven't noticed any slow-downs recently. As a matter of fact IW is faster than ever. There used to be some problems, though.

Nope, nor have I. Seen plenty of dead stops though........

Ziroc 12-27-2003 02:40 AM

Well, it's gotta be your connection to the internet Charlie, because I have been monitering the server for the last 4 days VERY closely, and since the upgrade and archive, the forum has had 80% less time-outs. Today, we had 4, we USUALLY get 24-45 (because of Gencon being so huge).

All I can say, is that it's not this server. You may want to do a tracert in dos, and see which server is timing out, because it's not IW.

PS: Just a reminder--Anytime anyone gets slowdowns or errors or it 'stops', don't automaticly blame IW, because in most cases, it's not us at all, but your connection.

SpiritWarrior 12-27-2003 02:44 AM

No Z, I'm sorry to say buddy it happend me today for quite awhile too. Can we make a sticky thread about this rather than people making multiples (I've seen 4 in past month)? That way you can monitor whats going on with everyone and check it against server status.

Seriously, it is not our connections it is IW. I have checked on 4 different PC's both dial up and braodband, here and at work. I have seen dozens of people post this since I started getting it to, it can't be coincidence.

Edit: Oh and for those of you who say It's fine lately/today, unless you have visited the site at least 2 seperate times in the day it does not count. It only seems to happen when you bounce back after browsing/posting earlier. Granted sometimes it can happen the first time you hit but more often than not it happens this way - seriously (I lost a large post today due to it and had forgotten to copy so I gave up and left in frustration).

Ziroc 12-27-2003 02:49 AM

Hmmm.. Very weird, I've seen many posts of people not having any problems too. It COULD be that the people having troubles are coming into the Roadrunner servers at different routes, and one of these routes are hitting a crappy server OR it's the Undermountain Server.

I'll try something. I will keep the NWN Mod offline all day tomorrow and the next day, and see if you are still getting these errors. If so, it's a bandwidth problem.

Post here this time tomorrow--all that have trouble, k?

Stickied!

SpiritWarrior 12-27-2003 02:52 AM

Will do, mate. This all started about 1-2 months before your PC was fried by that surge (so it wasn't the surge itself AFAIK) this is the only way I can remember it. I remember you sent me a message asking me what problems I was experiencing and I explained it to you then - this is the same thing. I wonder, maybe It's the newest host?

Another edit: Just to let u know this morning it was fine. I posted a message about swords in GC and then returned an hour later to check and it was still fine. About 5 hours later it started :( *.

I visit IW 3-4 times on a daily basis (yes I know I need a life) and have not had any problems.

I hope the Motherboard's IO circuits are not messed up, or shorting... I may do a 'burn-in' test on the Motherboard and check each item on the board..

I plan to upgrade this server to an AMD 2800 XP. Right now, we're on an 1800 XP.

God, I'd LOVE to have 2 SATA Raptor 10,000rpm hard drives Raided! This forum would be 300% faster! But those drives are mega expensive. I need to win a lotto! :D

Jorath Calar 12-27-2003 03:24 AM

All is fine here, been logging to IW on and of for the past 48 hours and not had any troubles ever...

By the way this "Quick Reply" thingie is awesome...

Ziroc 12-27-2003 03:40 AM

Yeah, I'm using it a LOT too! ;)

Charlie 12-27-2003 04:57 AM

No Z, it's not my connection mate. This is basically the only place I have trouble. Usually you X out, return 10 - 20 min's later and it's ok again. I know from speaking on MSN etc that others in different countries are experiencing the exact same thing. Refresh doesn't help, you gotta X right out, wait, then relog in. Today was the worst I've had from 4:45 AM GMT to 6:43 AM GMT, all other sites were fine. :(

Larry_OHF 12-27-2003 05:11 AM

It will be very cool if everyone that posts here with down reports follows the examples posted above and mentions the time that down-time was experienced...and maybe who your ISP is and if it is dial-up or cable or DSL. That would help Ziroc out alot I bet in finding the problem.

It sure would, and then I could see if those are the times that the EfU server is also at a peak time. Today and Sunday, the EfU server will be off to see if that is the cause.

Mouse 12-27-2003 06:38 AM

I've had one or two similar problems, but I've usually found them related to my ISP, or more likely BT who provide the vast majority of broadband connectivity in the UK.

The only solution I've found is to shut down my broadband and reconnect. This seems to clear up things.

If (or when) this next happens, I'll use a couple of utilities to see if I can find out more.

Mouse 12-27-2003 06:53 AM

Very wierd Call me Jonah, but I just lost IW. I took my own advice and here I am back again!

I can relate to Charlie's problem, it happened to me as well, almost EVERY day. You type a message, and when you try to post it, the board won't respond. This has been going on for a few months now. I kinda learned to live with it. :D

Megabot 12-27-2003 07:18 AM

Never any problems here...

SpiritWarrior 12-27-2003 11:36 AM

Another thing is, when I'm on dial-up and I lose IW if I disconnect then re-connect, I immediately get it back again. If I choose not to do this it can be down every time I hit the page for about 45 mins or so but again disconnecting and redialing has it back up on the first try. Dunno if this means anything.

Charlie 12-27-2003 03:16 PM

Down from 7:49 to 8:05 ish.

LordKathen 12-28-2003 10:41 AM

Yes Z, I have the same problem also. I visit 4 or 5 times daily, and it happens at least one of those times, daily, for the last couple months. I assumed it was a problem with IW, becouse I usually go to other sites rite away if I can't get into IW, and never have problems getting to the other sites. I am on cable, and have the fastest cable connection. I can't remember the speeds, but there was 3 to choose from and I pay for the fastest. ;) . Anyway, I have to agree with these guys, I think it is IW man, sorry.
BTW, when I am in IW, it is MUCH faster with the upgrade! And I really like the quick reply, and the way the page is layed out on normal reply, with the thread your replying to in its own scroll window. Very cool. Login is much faster too! Thanks for the hard work you do!

Ok, then I checked the logs and we had many people posting and reading through that time. It's gotta be what Mouse said. I need you to do a tracert so I can see where it times out. It's gotta be somewhere between you and the IW server, because were not getting errors in the log.

******* Please also, everyone with problems, post your ISP name you use as well. If they are the same ISP, or use the same Euro routing, it can be causing this.

I'll keep checking our server though!

RoSs_bg2_rox 12-28-2003 11:13 AM

Well lately its been fine here, and Im on Freeserve, been in 5 or 6 times today at least and no problems, none for the past week at least either.

Downunda 12-28-2003 12:59 PM

I've had no probs but I know that Sam aka Glorfindel has this exact problem and has also had it for months now. It's why he's stopped posting so much :(

Vaskez 12-28-2003 01:05 PM

No, my connection is too hard-core.

SpiritWarrior 12-29-2003 01:06 AM

Happend to me today between 11.30pm and 12.00 midnight Central. It was baaaad, lost another 2 posts (I keep forgetting to copy!).

I'm in America right now, Awesomenet is the ISP.

[ 12-29-2003, 01:07 AM: Message edited by: SpiritWarrior ]

SpiritWarrior 12-29-2003 01:20 AM

Happend again at 12.10 am this same night. Checked Yahoo and other sites, no problem.

Cloudbringer 12-29-2003 09:24 AM

I've had the same issue as johnny describes many times in the last few weeks, although it seems better since the gen con stuff was archived.

Still, I will click on IW in my favorites and wait to see it open up and then when I chose a thread or forum it will sit there locked up for a while and my only option is to close out and try again later. This happens when I'm at home on RR or at work on the mega university connection, so I didn't think it was my connection, but rather something going on at the server.

Megabot 12-29-2003 09:25 AM

Good work Z, anyway still no problems here and i use Telenor Net and it is fast and good here!

Gnarf 12-29-2003 04:18 PM

Me has had same problem as well. Happened to me 3 times or so today... and me thinks me uses same ISP as Megabot :/

GForce 12-29-2003 04:24 PM

in the past and still now, I've been having problems posting a reply to a topic. Sometimes I can only see the board menus but not get into a forum. But my main problem is not being able to post a reply to a topic and this can happen at work or at home. Both locations use different ISP type, ie, my work is broadband (could be T4) and my home is dial-up. Today I was not able to get to any forum (except the main board menu) around 950am PST. I am mow able to post this I hope.

RevRuby 12-29-2003 06:05 PM

well i just tried to post my reply stating my isp and that even tho i experience this frequently i hadn't in the past few days...then it happened. 6pm est, we have earthlink for an isp.

thanx for looking into this.
