No no, silly. Ziroc is not suing you. I am talking about this. http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/04/28/in....ap/index.html

In this news brief, it says that four people are being sued for e-mail junk, such as phoney weight loss drugs, spamming a million people. This will hopefully slow down the rate of crap we receive in our inboxes daily.

That is great news, but I'd so much rather they focused on nabbing those responsible for adware, spyware, bots, pop-ups, homepage-hijackers etc. A spam email is deleted in one click but that stuff is becoming such a massive problem lately - there's more of it by the day.

Nanobyte 04-28-2004 10:49 PM

Wouldn't this be more along the lines of sales fraud, or something?

The "can spam" legislation, which went into effect January 1, requires unsolicited e-mails to include a mechanism so recipients can indicate they do not want future mass mailings.
But this is very interesting..

it is a start... of a very long and lengthly process

Kakero 04-28-2004 11:58 PM

Great! I believe individual people who recieve tons of spams from these people should sue those people too. that'll teach them a lesson.

Firestormalpha 04-29-2004 12:20 AM

mechanisms that say I don't want your spam? What fun, click it be removed from one list and added to 20 others in one fell stroke.

Oh... now me and johnny are in trouble. :D

i once thought about opening a class action lawsuit against one of the pop up companies for harassment. i mean, they have an ad that keeps popping up even if you close it... if some salesman kept coming to your door after you told him to stay off your property then you could press charges.

I bet it would work.

quietman1920 04-29-2004 10:39 AM

promethius, if you do it, promise me you'll nail those GATOR idiots. They deserve public torture.

Raistlin Majere 04-29-2004 11:28 AM

about friggin' time somethings done about this problem...the WaS(war against spam...hey, we've got war against terrorism already :D ) is the first step in this war against harrassing computer...thingies(such as unwanted popups, spyware, adware etc.). I wonder if the war will be over in the next few millenia...

This is not the first case against spam... I remember reading about the first such cases in 1995 in Newsweek... !

Maybe true, but this is the first lawsuit ever under the NEW law, called "Can Spam". It is supposedly a more effective law, but we'll see.
