Anyone know of a good, free ad/spyware" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://messagebroadcaster.net/bannerfarm/link/sw/sw.htm">spyware</A>" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://messagebroadcaster.net/bannerfarm/link/sw/sw.htm">spyware</A> (like Spybot) that I could use? It's really, really annoying with the popups that I'm getting, and I'm running scans with both Spybot and a fully updated Nortorn and still getting popups. I've tried some of the free adware" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://messagebroadcaster.net/bannerfarm/link/sw/sw.htm">adware</A>" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://messagebroadcaster.net/bannerfarm/link/sw/sw.htm">adware</A>, but most of them are scan only, and the others don't solve my problem.

For some detailed help, occasionally, I'll see a word like "job" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://search.targetwords.com/u.search?x=5977|1||||job|AA1VDw">job</A>" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://search.targetwords.com/u.search?x=5977|1||||job|AA1VDw">job</A>" underlined in green, in brown font. It's clickable, and takes me somewhere else. It's not supposed to be there; on my other computer, that same site doesn't give me it. Also, whenever I search on google, it gives me first a page of crap, then if I click for the next page, it gives the 'true' results. Is this what is supposed to happen? Oh, and if I search for 'adware blocker', it decides to spam" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://search.targetwords.com/u.search?x=5977|1||||spam|AA1VDw">spam</A> up about 8 popups about adware blockers.

Oh, and it just happened to my post. Example of what i'm talking about: TITLE= "Click for more information about spam" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://search.targetwords.com/u.search?x=5977|1||||spam|AA1VDw">spam

I think you want to use Spysweeper it's an awesome program and finds a lot more than Adaware and SPybot SD.

For popups you can install the google toolbar if it's in IE. If it's outside IE you might want to check your firewall's settings or get one if you haven't got one yet. Firewalls can catch of a lot of this stuff. Also if you still have trouble after a scan with spysweeper your firewall could help out. Most of the time those loose popups have to connect to the internet to popup, then you can locate the program and delete it.

That's one strange post. From what your describing with the search engine I'd have to guess you've been hijacked. I'm not entirely sure about how you'd go about fixing that myself as I've not encountered that problem myself.

If you haven't already tried it, you might try adaware from lavasoft.com

skip using IE and use Mozilla Firebird, much safer and no popups! I use it and it works much better than IE ever did!

get it at download.com

Assassin 04-28-2004 04:45 PM

Thanks, but I've tried almost all of your suggestions already. I've narrowed it down to Sidesearch (http://securityresponse.symantec.com...idesearch.html) but I can't seem to make the bugger leave. I've deleted all of the files, etc., but it just doesn't show up in the add/remove program scrollbar, which might be the problem. Any help now?

What the hell is wrong with your post, Assassin? It's all fumbled up

Assassin 04-28-2004 04:59 PM

Good question; I tried fiddling around with one so that you could see what the link was, and I guess it screwed up the rest. =/

Your tags are all wrong bud.

Firestormalpha 04-28-2004 05:11 PM

I think you wanted to do this: Sidesearch Am I right, Assassin?

Or are they referring to the first post?

Assassin 04-28-2004 05:11 PM

No. I wanted to edit my post. The thing after 'oh,' was the one I wanted to do to show you guys what the hell was happening. I guess it messed up everything else as well.

Assassin 04-28-2004 05:15 PM

I think they're talking about the first post. I tried doing something for the other one, but I forgot how, so I just put it in brackets.

$%^#$^#$%^@@!%(*&(&*^$'ing goodness! I can't remove it. I've tried like every single darn spy/adware remover, including Nortorn, Spysweeper, Ad-aware, and Spybot. Nothing works. They say they delete it. I search on google again for a d w a r e (I'm not screwing up this post =/), and it gives me the lycos results once again. I'm very, very pissed off right now.

philip 04-28-2004 05:16 PM

here's the link to Spysweeper http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php

Assassin 04-28-2004 05:18 PM

*sigh* I tried it already. They say it's deleted. It's not. At least if it's not that that's wrong, then it's something very, very similar to that adware that I just found on my computer.

Sir Krustin 04-28-2004 05:31 PM

follow these steps to remove the savenow hjacker, similar steps apply to other hijackers.

I really can't strees enough how NOT using IE and switching to Mozilla Firebird/Netscape Navigator 7.1 will help you with this problem. IE is literally used as a highway into your hard drive by trojans, virii and hijaclkers of all sorts. Most hijackers and trojans use popups, which are automatically stopped by Firbird/Netscape.

Assassin 04-28-2004 05:41 PM

I've tried Spysweeper. It doesn't work. =/ At least, either it doesn't delete things or scan things properly, as I can scan two times in a row, right after another, and the second time I'll still have crap on .

-> Savenow removal step 1) If you want to uninstall, you can do so easily through the add/remove function in your control panel.

Okay. It just isn't there, darnit! I've opened up the thing. In no place does it even remotely say anything that could be constituted as an adware (ie: all of them are games or hardware that I've installed)

Bungleau 04-28-2004 05:58 PM

While this isn't for the faint of heart, have you searched through your registry? It might be buried in there, waiting to come back.

Assassin 04-28-2004 06:08 PM

At least for the stuff that were mentioned in the websites, yes. Nothing.

ADD] I have now scanned my machine at least 5 times using each of the following programs: Spysweeper, Spybot, Ad-aware 6, and Norton. Only Spysweeper and Ad-aware 6 showed problems repeatedly, but Spybot only found problems the first time. Spybot was unable to delete the thing for some reason, and Norton found two for the first time. After I manually jacked the things out of there, then it didn't find anymore.

I HAVE DONE IT!

Thanks everyone for helping me.

All you can do is hope that the Government, or whoever, decides to crack down on Spyware/adware users.

Harkoliar 04-28-2004 11:03 PM

hey assasin.. give tell us the URL of the website that gave you the spyware.. so we can avoid it like a plague..

Assassin 04-29-2004 07:35 AM

I have no clue. =/ If I did, I would avoid it like the plague as well... But I don't.
