;)

Apparently it's now Monday! I remember most of Sunday, but much of it seems to have never happened.

What on earth happened. Was I transported across time and space? Where are the missing 9 hours?

Why - if my head hurts, do I seem so pleased with life?

Why do I have this sardonic smile which won't go away? Why do I feel 10 feet tall? And if I am 10 feet tall why am I floating along the street?

Something happened yesterday - what the hell was it?

Vaskez 04-26-2004 10:54 AM

You died?

johnny 04-26-2004 10:59 AM

Arsenal finally won a trophy. But after the unfortunate loss in the FA cup, and their very poor CL performance, it must be a trophy which leaves kind of a sour taste. It was written all over Wenger's face when i saw him on TV. Winning the Premiership was the least they could do, but there was so much more for them this season.

Anyway, congrats Donut, a title well deserved. That gap of 9 hours you have, is something i'm quite familiar with myself. Don't worry, it's supposed to be like that. :D

Donut 04-26-2004 11:32 AM

Oh yeah! Winning the Premiership was a "consolation prize". I don't think so johnny!

BTW - will the Dutch teams be entering next year's CL - they were sorely missed this year.

Kakero 04-26-2004 12:47 PM

Is this another of your joke thread Donut?

Congrats to Arsenal for winning the EPL. I wanna see they maintain their unbeatable record through the end.

Keep your pants on mate, i wasn't saying that it's a consolation prize, but they had a good chance of taking it all, but when it really mattered, they choked. As usual.

And yeah, Ajax will be there, PSV probably too, but there's not much to expect from the both of em. You see, the point is that every time they have a 17 or 18 year old talent, some Italian, Spanish, or British manager comes along with a suitcase full of money, offers them an insane contract, and takes them home with him. And since the clubs overhere are not willing to pay footballplayers salaries of 100.000€ per month, or sometimes even more, we see them all leave to clubs abroad. Ajax will be champions, but 6 or 7 of the players who won that title, won't be there anymore next season. That's the story of our life.

Tell me johnny, when was the last time we never won a trophy ? and as for choking we lost in 2 games to our nearest rivals by 1 goal, in a 2 week period where we had to play a ridiculous amount of games. are all the other teams around the world that haven't won a treble chokers, dont think so. Anyway I danced and sang in the streets of highbury into the early hours of monday morning, so that tells you how dissapointed I am at only winning the league. As for the two teams we lost to, well they haven't won anything yet, would they have settled for 'only' winning the league ?

Just a pity "the scum" got a late equalising penalty. Still, now it means we have won more Championships at WHL now than they have :D .

Go the Gunners .

Where is Mario?

And how about Arsenal's European adventures ? Don't you agree that this particular team could have done a lot better than they did so far ? You may try to convince me you're satisfied and all, but i think were i an Arsenal fan, i would be seriously pissed with all the missed opportunities in the championsleague. I guess they lack the killersmentality to go all the way.

Kakero 04-27-2004 01:34 AM

For a team that has been pencilled to win Treble at the start of this year ( through their unbeatable form at the league ) and only ended up winning the EPL. It is indeed a consolation prize.

Just like ManU did in season 00/01.

Joy to the world - Ian Thorpe will oficially be representing Australia in the 400m Freestyle at the Athens Olympics.

There - now don't you feel even better .

And I don't need to convince you I'm satisfied, because I am, true, i'd love to win the lot , but not many teams do, but what I can say is I'm watching the best team in the world at the moment, how many people can say that and mean it.

PS didn't they used to have a league in Holland ? I saw a list of what I thought was football teams, but it turned out to be a product list for an electrical wholesalers.

SOMEBODY LOCK THE BACK DOOR!!!

Donut 04-27-2004 07:09 AM

So Stevens takes his A$60,000 pay off and his new job. It's likely that Adidas will give him a huge kick back as well. Pierre de Coubertin turns once more in his grave and what little is left of true Olympic spirit dies a little bit more.

It's not the winning that is important but the taking part! Not any more. :(

But it is the taking part that is important - how could you deny Thorpey the opportunity to take part? People want to see the best versus the best at these things. It would be like a World Cup finla of OZ v Paraguay if major world powers like the All Blacks didn't turn up for the show. :D

it is really unfair that Thorp's slip put Stevens under so much pressure, he gave up his place because Ian messed up, that is really wrong.

But if the event gets ratings what does it matter, as long as people watch there is no need for "spirit", and Stevens got a pay off so everytihng turned out nicely, ha, there is no need for spirit anymore at all in fact, only ratings matter :donotagreeatall:

Donut 04-28-2004 06:06 AM

My head is a bit better now. Fragments of my memory are returning. It’s still quite hazy though. I remember bits:

There are crowds on the streets. Most are wearing red clothing. There are men, women and children. They are dancing! They are smiling! They are laughing! They are chanting rhythmically. I can’t quite catch it but it sounds like:

Grampians!
Grampians!
Grampians!

Perhaps there is a Scottish connection.

The chant changes:

Grampiones! Grampiones!
All day! All day! All day!

And from a different direction, another, more tuneful chant:

We are the Grampians my Fred!
And we’ll keep on farting on your head!
We are the Grampians!
We are the Grampians!
No time for boozers coz we are the Grampians of the world!

And another:

We one the lead!
At No Heart Shame!
We one the lead at No Heart Shame!
We one the lead at the SHIT ‘OLE!
We one the lead at No Heart Shame!

Why am I so elated?

43 years! You’re ‘aving a bath
43 years! You’re ‘aving a bath

71 – we done it again!
71 – we done it again!

I remember travelling home that night. Through the desolation and despair that is Tottenham High Road. Grim men and women, with their own personal grey clouds above their heads. People with nothing to look forward to. People that have suffered, are suffering, and will continue to suffer! No light at the end of the tunnel for them. Cold, living in the shadow of their magnificent neighbours, with only the memories of four decades ago to sustain them.

Sad bastards! :D

Davros 04-28-2004 06:43 AM

So - it's cold out then?
