OMG.. I just remembered this toy that you attach to the lawn hose outside, and it would hang above ya and spray you--then, it strangles you and beats you in the head till you pass out :D (Well, that is what people said in 1978) And it was recalled, so I dug up the NAME of it and it was called the "Water Wiggle" made by Whammo. (yeah, great name). I LOVED that toy, but was weary of it getting near me... ;)

Here is a pic of it: (God, don't you LOVE Google?)

LOL :D

Imagine trying to get product liability insurance nowadays for this!

BTW Why do people keep this stuff?

johnny 03-16-2004 10:16 AM

Damn... i only had the Lone Ranger.

Cloudbringer 03-16-2004 10:38 AM

I remember hearing about these but we never had one when we were kids.

At first glance I thought it was one of those gizmos girls used to put on one ankle and 'skip' over like a one footed jump rope! LOL

Stuff that was popular when I was a kid:

LOLOBALL!!

My Little Pony (God I loved them! My sister and I each had three, and we shared the Dream Castle, which I actually found a pic of!! :D )

Heh... The king of Innapropriate childhood toys:
Lawn Darts!
You may recall these. They were-- as the name implies-- giant "darts" that you would toss in the air, trying to have them land in a hoop several feet away. Of course, kids would tend to release late, launching them straight up... As I recall, they had a good 2-3 inch spike on them, so when it came down on your head, that was the end of you.

Did anything ever make such a good weapon as LAWN DARTS???? What about the good old rock-under-the-Slip N' Slide gag??

Ronn_Bman 03-16-2004 11:10 AM

I loved everything made by Whammo, K-Tel, and Ronco!

About like,8 years ago, when I was five, the toy that was most popular for a lot of people I knew were the "Beast Wars" toys, from the Transformers. Now that I look back at them I wonder to myself "Why the hell did I collect those..." because I lost most of the parts to them, got them stolen, and really screwed them up. But they were still fun to play with. I think the original transformers were cooler anyway.

Oh yeah, I had ALL the Joes and Transformers! The Red one on the right is Jinx! She was the Female Ninja that helped Stormy..

ryaldin 03-16-2004 12:06 PM

MY favorite was Sgt. Slaughter, but only becuase he had that wicked hat and the kick-ass sunglasses. :D

Arvon 03-16-2004 01:38 PM

*Sheesh* doesn't anyone remember the old tin can for a game of 'Kick the Can' at night?

Ronn_Bman 03-16-2004 02:27 PM

When I was a kid GI Joe was 12" tall, wore cloth uniforms, and actually had a fuzzy crew cut.

But my favorites were the 8" Marvel and DC superheroes with cloth costumes. My Batman had a removable cloth cape and a plastic cowl. Now that was cool.

You utter bastard! ;)

Oh yeah, and I was big on the good ol' bow and sucker-tipped arrows. Gimme some of those and my no-safety-pads trampoline and I was a happy chappy.

Dalamar Stormcrow 03-16-2004 05:51 PM

The best toy, was definetly.....................................my imagination! LOL. I kid. I did'n't have toys. I had a bike.

I was an army man freak. I had over "5000" 4 inch tall army men, Half were Germans and the other half were american. I had somewhere around 60 army Tanks, Cannon, Trucks and other assorted armored Halftracks and self propelled guns. I also had about 1000 Japineese soulders too.
I had 6 remote controlled Bull Dog tanks that would shoot plastic bullets about 25 feet, and it would shoot fire crackers about 20 feet. When I was a kid I lived with in california with my family on our Quarter Horse Ranch and my DAD made an area for me to play army in that was 50 feet wide and 70 feet long. My three best friends and myself made the best war Zone with trenches, Tank traps, Mine fields, Mountains with Gun inplacements. The four of us had some of the best war games you have ever seen. One time I'll never forget we had a bunch of our friends come over and we had one 8 man team and one 7 man team War game that lasted almost 15 hours and 2500 fire crackers later. what an awsome Battle My ears are still ringing from all the fire crackers going off near my head that day. The tank battle was like nothing you ever saw. Rommel and Patton would have been proud of us. :D :D

I almost forgot I had over 400 dead guys with missing leggs and arms. We had painted them with red model paint to add to the effect. It grossed out my Mon and two sisters. some even had little swords from cocktail weenies sticking through them and we said the were bayonets.

I agree re the utter bastard re Timber's rock under the slip n' slide! Oh bet you got lots of beatins for that LOL!

I remember having this one toy, these tennis ball sized glass/plexiglass? spheres, usually red or blue or transparent, both on a thick string, connected at the ends of the strings. The deal was you yanked you arms up and down with enough strength, and with consistent aim and rhythm, and you could get the two spheres to knock against eachother above and below, hard to explain. All I know is if you didn't do it right you got nailed pretty good

Two bids, two posts

Elvira Kurt did a VERY funny bit on toys/playground equipment a few decades ago and how it's all changed. She mentions lawn darts, too. Anyone hear that?
P.S... What about The Underpant-Igniting Rollerskating Barbie? And Stretch Strangulation Armstrong Filled With Pus? We owned the former, and I've seen the latter. I now understand why the Stretch Armstrongs were recalled. It was possibly the most horrifying thing I've seen in a child's toy.
::waits in eager anticipation, knowing someone will remember something even more horrifying::

Oh that brings back memories I still have at least 200 army men floating around in one cupboard or another. I remember my parents walking into the loungeroom and finding themselves in the middle of a miniture war :D
